We are already 13 days into the month of January, and it happens to be Friday the 13th. A day that some associate with bad luck. Ever since my daughter came into this world ready, willing, and screaming (the sound a Mother always wants to hear the moment her child is born) on November 13th which happened to fall on a Friday the year she was born I have never connected bad luck with any Friday the 13th, to me it is just another day on the calendar, another 5 Senses Friday, no bad luck here.
Feeling like a party needs to happen. Toby turned six earlier this month and with the hustle and bustle of the holidays just over, his birthday seems to always slip my mind. I never seem to remember it until I get an e-mail from a local pet shop inviting Toby to come in for his birthday giveaway. Shame on me for forgetting his birthday, you never should forget birthdays of the ones you love, and I do love that little dog. But please, don't feel sorry for him, he has a boat-load of toys, the run of the house, a whole yard both back and front that is fenced in for him to run, sleeps in bed with me every night, no don't feel sorry for Toby.
Tasting - Catherine and I drove to the Arboretum this morning, we wanted to get pics of the first significant snow of the season. It was quite cold and by the time I was back home, I was chilled. A cup of hot peppermint tea was in order. It tasted mighty good and warmed me up, particularly after I grabbed a big heavy blanket, wrapped myself up and proceeded to fall asleep and napped most of the afternoon. Not a regular habit, but it sure felt good.
Hearing - as Catherine and I walked thru the Arboretum, we could hear the sounds of the small stream that runs through much of the Arboretum. The lakes were frozen, which surprised me since it has been so unseasonably warm here, I am sure they were not solidly frozen, no ice skating yet.
Seeing - to my eyes, one of the most beautiful sights to see in the winter is that first snowfall.
Smelling - Today was the perfect day for a pot of soup.....enough said.

Until next time......
Oh boy, your Toby reminds me soooooo much of my Utley, from looks to mannerisms. What kind of pooch is Toby?

Wonderful! I forgot about how much I love Peppermint Tea until I read your post. I'll have to get some now as a change from coffee now & then.
ReplyDeleteLoved your winter photo's. No snow here yet but it's scheduled to arrive next week. I'm not a winter person but I have to admit it does look pretty.

ReplyDeleteI share your love of that first snowfall. Your images here of the snow and especially those leaves still on the tree are marvelous. I just went for a walk in the woods here with my husband and my camera and saw similar scenes. Thanks for sharing the beauty of this season!
