It's Friday

Golly....the first Friday of the year.  Is this significant?  Not particularly but I realize that every day should have some significance, I guess that's why I blog almost everyday, to mark & remember the significance of that particular day.  Some keep a journal and I commend them.  I have started so many journals but after awhile, I stop writing.  As I age, my fingers are beginning to feel the aches of arthritis and writing for any length of time becomes painful, typing on a computer is pain-free.  So that is one of the reason I don't journal any longer.  Every time I go into a book-store I gaze at the beautiful journals for sale and envision filling their pages with wonderful thoughts and memories, but then stop and realize I am not going to do that, so I pass them by.

Instead I take pictures, that becomes my journaling, trying to capture the significance of everyday with images.  I just signed up for a year-long class on capturing myself on camera...I hesitated to join this class last year, but this year I decided to have a go at it.  I love taking pictures of people, but since I live alone the opportunities are few and far between.  But I can take pictures of myself and that is what I am going to learn to do.  Another YES for me.

And speaking of pictures....here are a few more of Trader Joe's roses.  Thank goodness we have places like Trader Joe's to fill our dull winter world with color.

Now tell me, honestly wouldn't you rather look at roses than this scene?  This is the view from my front window, brown and grey with a little green and a crooked fence that needs repairing replacing.  Roses are definitely a better choice.  However the significance of this scene is how different this will look in just a few short months.

Do you journal?  If you do, I so admire you. Keep it up.

Until next time....

  2. Journals....I've started many, myself. And, that's all I did...started. Never finished. Blogging is better. Pictures make up for a lot of words. And....it's fun to share. I'm glad you share yours with the rest of us.

I like your view. Resting up for the busy season.

    Have a great weekend.

  3. Oh yes, I keep a really fancy journal, you know the spiral kind you can get when school starts. Only I've upgraded in the last couple of years from the solid colors for .25 cents to the one for $1 with a brightly patterned front! haha It's not so much of a daily journal as it is a place to write down thoughts before they become blog posts. The roses are beautiful (and pink) - no Trader Joes here, but my grocery store hasn't had any of the $4 bargain flowers lately. :( Which class did you sign up for?

  4. The most writing I do these days is my grocery lists. So sad. Thank goodness for blogs.

  5. I'm your soul-sister on the journaling thing. I've tried, even took an online course that included journaling. I just don't stick with it. I think people who draw and doodle like it better than folks like me who must rely on photography to express their creative instincts.

I do think sandwiches taste better when slice diagonally! :-D

  6. I used to journal, for years, actually. They were my conversations with God. Blogging is filling that role now--well, the writing, not the praying. I am loving your roses! Beauty is ours to find. :-)

  7. Journals, I have started so many and I love notebooks it's an addiction, but like you I now pass them by... Blogging is certainly becoming more an everyday event for me as I become accustomed more to writing my thoughts. I love rosebuds and that is such a delicate colour....

  9. I noticed the new selfie at the top of your blog - impressive. My self portraits look one step short of a bad mug shot. The roses are beautiful.

  10. I have never been a journaler (?)(however I do love to art journal) but I have written over 5 3" binders full of blog posts before I switched to a photo blog ;)....my brain flows better in front of a keyboard and monitor...and now with a laptop it is definitely pain free for me. What class did you sign up for?

  11. Deanna! Lovely roses! Even in their fading shapes and turns. I have journaled at times but like you I would rather type than hand write. My hands aren't arthritic except for one middle knuckle on my middle left. It has been bad since about 2005 when I wore a ring on it and it hurt to get it off. dang! It only hurts if I jam it or if my grandkids pull on it, then I hit the ceiling and they wonder what they have done. You have a lovely weekend, dear and rest and read and rest some more. I know I will in this 11 degree weather we are having here in Utah. The sun is out nice and bright, the ground is covered in snow. (except roads, paths and driveways, etc.) But, it is sooooo cold here. Thank goodness for warm homes and clothes.

  12. I don't journal but I've always enjoyed writing in some form, typing for fifty years and emails are my preference now because of their expediency. Blogging is a kind of chronicle mostly to have a purpose for the photos I like to take!

  13. Ok Deanna, your comment made me laugh out loud!!!! thanks.

  14. I used to keep a diary when I was younger, but my thoughts sometimes race, so typing is a better option. Like you, I now use photos and blog posts to document things in my life. Can't wait to see your selfies. That should be a fun exercise! The photos and edits of the roses are exquisite! Btw, I love your view from your window because when the birds land, you can see them better! I'm loving our bare trees right now. See, I'm a bonafide bird nerd. :)

  15. The roses are beautiful but so is the view from your front window. I've tried journaling but never kept it up. Now I have arthritis too so won't even try again.
Have fun with your photo class!

  16. Nope I don't journal, you know how much I love writing......nope I don't even like to type. Like you I admire anyone who can put their words down on paper or by typing them like you and make it interesting. That is not me, I use my camera to speak for me.

You will enjoy the self portraits. I took it last year not for the whole year but I think 4 or 6 weeks and enjoyed it a lot.

  17. I've tried and failed at the journaling thing more times than I can remember. It's just not in my nature. 2012 I started the "Project Life"... made it to oh March sometime and fell off the wagon. My problem is it all starts sounding the same. Or maybe I just too boring, either way I have to walk past the journals at the bookstore too.

  18. I bought a calendar with lots of blank pages in the back of it. I still love being able to draw... write with my fave felt tip pens... & paste little items in my calendar/journal. So... what's wrong with this picture? here it is the fourth day of the new year... and I haven't even pulled the calendar out of my workbag. This may be my last year to purchase a journal!

  19. posted too quickly! what program do you use to add the fonts used in your pictures? love your quotes + font choices. AND... I think you must have the largest selection of teacups I've noticed online. Haven't noticed a duplicate yet.

  20. I use to journal but now it's called blogging! And I do have a little notebook that I draw in....I'm teaching myself. Beautiful roses Deanna.
