Wednesday Ramblings

It's cold with still no snow....grrrr and really none predicted for the near future.  I think Dallas, TX has received more than we have...Dallas??? when I lived there as a kid if it snowed the whole city shut down eventho whatever snow fell was usually gone by the afternoon.  Schools would shut down, city buses didn't run, many businesses would close if there was 2 inches of snow (we never ever received more than 2 inches).  I remember the first time after moving away from Texas driving in the snow....scared shitless, sorry for the off-color, but I wanted you to get the true feeling and scary wasn't strong enough to describe the event.  But I lived through it, no dents on the car and I emerged a little more confident in my driving abilities.

Snow I can handle, ice no way.  Ice definitely keeps me out of the car and any urges I may have to shop, go to the grocery store, meet girlfriends, go to a movie, visit my sweetie....anything.  But since there is no snow and no ice, I continue to shop, meet my girlfriends for coffee and am planning to see a movie on Friday.  Has anybody seen Life Of Pi?  That is the pick.  It is already at the "cheap seats" theater and I don't want to miss it before it leaves the big screen.  Something about shrinking that Tiger down to TV size gives me incentive enough to get to the theater.

I am little sad....I just read on the internet that Patti Page, the Singing Rage, one of the best known female artists in traditional pop music has died at 85.  She was so popular when I was in school.  One of her big hits then was "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window".  Our music was a little different than what the highschoolers are listening to today.  No "do whops" can be heard anywhere.

And one final thought....I am so happy that the Fiscal Cliff (a way over-used word, that I do believe has been banned from the English dictionary) has been averted to a later date.  Maybe by then a new phrase will rise to describe the next financial hurtle, fiscal cliff was over-used and over-rated.  Did you really not think there would be a save at the last minute....!!

I hope you enjoyed the roses....I blame them on a trip to Trader Joe's.

"I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue; no good in bed, but fine up against a wall."  ~  Eleanor Roosevelt

Until next time....

  1. What a great quote! Smiling here in frigid Breckenridge where we have plenty of cold but apparently Dallas is stealing our snow.

  2. Ah such pretty roses. I hope you enjoy the movie. I'm trying to get to the Imax theater to see the Hobbit. I wished you got enough snow to take some pretty pictures, but not enough to make it difficult to drive :)

  3. I was raised on driving in snow and ice and can completely relate to being scared shit-less - only way it can be described. And I too tire of the catch-phrases given to accentuate political matters (or just about anything televised these days). The media tries my patience to the ninth degree on a regular basis.

On a brighter note - these are stunning roses. I so wanted to pick up some brilliant colored flowers the other day at the store, but opted for the sushi instead.

  4. Those pink roses hit the spot! Just lovely.
I saw Life of Pi on Christmas Day (Les Mis was sold out!). It was intense...excellent acting. We liked it. Last night, my daughter and I finally saw Les Mis. Awesome!

  7. Love your roses, and it is hard to believe that we have had more snow in Dallas than in Chicago. Snowed here all day on Christmas.... never remember that before. Well enjoy your days, as surely a big snow is heading your way. Have a wonderful week! plan to see that movie this coming weekend!

  8. Deanna! Oh I am sorry. The cake mountain was suppose to make you see it not salivate over it. LOL So you went to Chicago after living in Dallas. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Just wondering. Have a grand and glorious 2013! I haven't seen Life of Pi but I have heard it is marvelous. and ...Thank you for the roses. Lovely, very lovely.

  10. what a fabulous quote... enjoying your roses! my hubs forgot mine (even though it was the Trader list). Not like him - he's in the midst of writing an article, so I think he's easily distracted.
I have to tell you --- I so love visiting your blog - love your honesty & your photos are stunning. Do your kids (& grandkids) know how talented you are? do they follow your blog? My mom follows mine & NOW she checks yours also. Participating in a 365 - WOW! I'll have something to read every day.

  11. Your images are beautiful, as always. That quote is too funny! I did see Life of Pi, in 3-D. Loved it! Have you read the book? I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  12. Your off colour word really sets the stage. I have been there many times myself. I hate that feeling and try to stay away from it as much as much as possible. Love the roses and need to plant some.

  13. Living in the city I do a lot of walking, but I have the same feelings. I'm okay with snow, but ice and sleet scare me...Seventeen years ago I slipped on an icy corner on the way to work and broke my elbow. It left me really shy of ice and sleet.

I was so sad to read about Patti Page. Loved "Doggy in the Window" and "Tennessee Waltz."

  17. Adding to your long list of admirers this morning. I have the fireplace on the wind is howling this morning. Too cold here at the moment. Haven't seen the movie, but my list of movies is long and will get to that list next week. I also bought me some roses yesterday, you will see them in a few days posts. Flowers always make me happy and I try to make myself happy every week. :) They were even giving out free roses yesterday to all the old people like me as it was Senior Day at the local grocery. That rose was in my post yesterday.

  18. Pretty, pretty roses and your photos highlight their natural beauty. I need to head to Trader Joe's for some flowers. In January, there's not much else around here to photograph. No snow here, either, but that's not all that unusual. Looking forward to spending 2013 with you!

  19. Such pretty shots of roses. I had to giggle when your were describing how the town shut down if it snowed. That is exactly how it is here in Vegas. I remember when I was in High School (a long time ago) it had started to snow and the buses would not take us home we had to walk. It was kinda fun. But I love to tell my daughter how I had to walk home in the snow with no gloves, up hill both ways, times where tough. Hee Hee.. I don't think she is buying it. But I am sticking to my story.. :)

    Hugs~

  21. That quote made me lol. Your shots of the roses are exquisite; especially the one with all the bokeh. Driving in the rain, over a bridge, freaks me out to no end. In fact, on my way back to Baton Rouge from Dallas, I had a panic attack as a major thunderstorm parked itself right over the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and 18-wheelers whizzed by at ungodly speeds dumping more water on my car. I crawled into town after several crying jags and hubby had to come get me. It was awful. I'd be the same way on ice. Snow doesn't bother me, but ice and rain scare me $---less! Take care Deanna and thanks for the laugh today. :)

  22. The bokeh in your rose shot is breathtaking! I have no choice but to drive in ice and snow :( but what I hate most if fog - it practically paralyzes me. I saw The Life of Pi (in 3D) - stunning, fabulous, incredible special effects. I love the story and I love the show - I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I'd go again...
