Wintertime??

I woke up really early this morning about 6:00 AM, dark, and still no snow. (we have now passed the all time record for longest time without measurable snow, 320 days) As I walked outside to pick up the newspaper off of the driveway and gather the mail from the mailbox, the sky was just beginning to get that soft peachy pink color,

there was little sound except for the drone of cars on the busy street a few blocks away and then I heard it....chirping of birds in the tree above me.  I looked up and saw two robins.  This is January 10th, I usually don't see robins until sometime in early March.  What the heck??  Are we skipping winter this year??

I am having great fun trying to come up with different angles and ideas for the "Selfie" Now You project....I know you will get really tired of seeing so much of me for the next year, I know I will.  It's fun right now, but as the weeks unfold, looking at me will become rather boring.  I think the joy is in discovering yourself, knowing that maybe it is somewhat uncomfortable to expose yourself so publicly, but it is also very liberating.

Later a walk with my camera reveals that eventho there is no snow, there is a beauty in the remains of summertime flowers with their textures and promises of returning in the spring.

  9. Your photos are lovely, even without snow! I grew up in Whiting, IN (just across the state line) and can't remember a winter without snow by this time of year.

  12. I'd kill right about now for your skin, Deanna. I like the way you seem so natural in the selfies. We may have a storm coming this weekend but also into minus digits again, so too cold to be outdoors. Your portraits of dried flowers and seedpods have such character. Your camera gives life to them once again.

  13. I love seeing you...selfies are fun and a great way to express yourself. I did a 365 several years back...wow...that was a quite a learning experience that I will always be grateful for. Wonderful post Deanna.

  17. Robins already? Yikes! Our weather problems lately are rain, rain, and more rain. Ugh. I don't know how my daughter lives in Portland. Your selfless are adorable and I think if you do get bored then that will stretch you to try different poses and ideas. There's a sweet lady on Flickr who poses with words from her scrabble tiles or the words you decorate with like Hope, Love, etc. the possibilities are endless. Your photos here are GORgeous. :)

  18. Your shots of the dried summer flowers are awesome! Most of us would just walk on by those thinking they were dead. You brought them back to life.

  21. You have such an eye for beauty, and the photos that you take that are "set up" are always so gorgeous. Also, I am really enjoying your selfies. I think you are adorable. What your selfies say to me is that you are a woman that is warm, funny and kind. I have been reading backwards, so from here I will say that I hope your chin is starting to get a little higher off the ground. We all have those times, some longer than others. Don't feel bad about sharing your feelings. Honestly, it probably makes the rest of us that are in the same boat feel better knowing that there is a kindred spirit out there.

  22. Hi Deanna, Happy New Year! The opening image is breathtaking – truly beautiful. I find it rather perfect, actually. And yes, robins – ours are also usually beginning their song in March (they are with us all year, though – some on the lawn even at this moment) but the last two years it has been earlier and earlier.

The weather is a puzzle and concern – we had 30% more rain this year than normal. And that was with 90 days in a row without a single drop!

I have to say I am impressed and inspired by your self portrait project. I will be cheering you on throughout the year.

Wishing you a happy week ahead.
