A Little Spring, A Little TV, A Little Petunia
As much as I totally enjoyed Arizona with the blue skies, the cool nights, the warmth of the days, the blooming cactus, what Arizona doesn't have that we have here in the midwest is our gorgeous spring flowers...our tulips, our ranunculus, our daffodils, our forsythia.
I gotta admit that the above were purchased at Trader's Joes but as I drove to Bible Study this morning I noticed all the daffodils that were nodding their heads, and the forsythia that has recently bloomed.
It has been raining for most of the day, I mean really raining...I'll change that to pouring and as I looked out the front window in the afternoon there were little riverlets all over the front yard which translates to extremely muddy feet for Toby. Thank goodness he is small enough that I can pick him up and take him directly to the kitchen sink for clean-up. I don't envy those with large dogs on days like today. I guess I could switch to cats and not worry about muddy clean-ups. but then who would bark at the mailman if I switched to cats?
Surely with all this rain and perhaps a little warmth we might have these in bloom soon.....
And then the lilacs and the crabapples and the quince and the bleeding hearts....oh be still my heart. We are already a month behind in our blooms from last year, so the waiting is stretching my patience, Madam Mother Nature. Get busy and give us our Spring colors, please.
Been trying to catch up on my taped TV shows that I missed while in Arizona (never turned the TV on while there)....Dancing With The Stars???, not real excited about this year. Gotta admit the women far outshine the men and it's a cinch that one of them will take home that Miraball trophy. Still watching "The Following" with Kevin Bacon. Not nearly as creepy as it began, intense, but not creepy. It will be interesting to see how this season will end. I have lost interest in some shows....Nashville, Grey's Anatomy, but have them on tape just in case I want to have a marathon weekend of catch-up. A show not to be missed is "Call the Midwife" on PBS. A BBC Production, it takes place in the east end of London in the 1950's about a group of women, that live and work in a convent, caring for and helping in the delivery of the babies of the very prolific pregnant population of women in this extremely poor area of London. It can get quite graphic at times during the deliveries, but you gotta admire these women that dedicate their lives to helping Mother's bring their babies into the world with less than perfect birthing surroundings and to boot, their only means of transportation is bicycles. This is the 2nd season, I encourage you to catch up and join in...they are a delightful group of women, both the nurses and the nuns, all with their own individual stories.
Hope you have a great evening and I'm thinkin' Spring is right around the corner for us all. Altho I think the snow has to melt in some areas first.
Oh, and fyi....today is the birthday of Petunia Pig....you remember her? she was the love interest to Porky Pig. She first appeared in a cartoon with Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd in 1937. Happy Birthday, Petunia, you are 76 years old today....oh sorry, ladies sometimes don't like to reveal their ages.
Until next time....
how cute! petunia! :) i love your bloom shots. the forsythia is just dreamy!
ReplyDeletei didn't start watching the following as it looked too creepy for me - too scary. i like intense, though. but they came out too strong. :)
oh, and you'll never see my tile floor because of 4 big country dogs that have dirt, mud, pond, pasture at their disposal...
ReplyDeleteIt didn't start raining here until dinner time - but it hasn't stopped since.
ReplyDeleteHoping it will bring forth those spring colors too......
I was wondering if you were still watching "The Following" i love Kevin Bacon - so i have yet to lose interest. he is a hunk. i have the giggles of you picking up Toby & cleaning up those paws. too cute!! gorgeous blooms. ( :
ReplyDeleteI love those field of tulips, simply gorgeous. I also love Call The Midwife. I also have two new favorites on PBS, I don't think they are new but new to me. I think they come on Thursday night, the first is called New Tricks (English Mystery) set in London and the other one comes on right after called Death in Paradise (Caribbean mystery). Both of these shows have a sense of humor which I also like and the characters are all very likable.
ReplyDeleteDeanna, your Spring time blooms are lovely. I agree that every area of this vast country has it's better and lesser points. We head to AZ in just three weeks, I am hoping to have a few hours to check out the Botanical Gardens once again.
ReplyDeleteWe are supposed to have a gully washer tomorrow and we could use some rain, I'm just glad it wasn't yesterday, it's stressful enough driving into Houston without rain! I'm hoping Spring hasn't sprung all the way into summer actually as it's been muuuugggy here and warm, but falling temps coming this weekend. I was able to go on another short walk before I had to pick my boy up early from school and I was attacked by mosquitoes...it's only April...sigh! I'm so jealous you are finding Ranunculus, I can't find it here anywhere and it's one of my very favorites!
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely flowers. No wonder you love the midwest. Do the daffodils really grow wild like in your photo??? I would love to soak in such amazing beauty.
ReplyDeleteOh I sooooooo love "Call the Midwives". Although I'm really bummed that Chummy skedaddled off to India.
ReplyDeletegorgeous, they're all very gorgeous... esp your new header, outstanding =)
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how beautiful these flowers are....considering we've had 22 inches of snow over the last 3 days! Can't wait for Spring to really arrive!
ReplyDeleteYes, the hot weather states can't grow these beautiful bulbs. BOO!!! I do miss them so much. As for the shows...I am losing interest in alot of them...just same ole same ole stuff. Greys is one of them, I couldn't agree more. My husband and I have been doing a dvd marathon of Army Wifes, now that has been exciting.Have a great weekend my friend.
ReplyDeleteYour blooms are beautiful! Purchased or not, I enjoy how you are able to capture them. Wish we had bleeding hearts here and some other flowers you mentioned. I'm still watching Nashville...wanna see if the writers will ever let Rayna and Deacon be together. It's one of my guilty pleasure shows. lol
ReplyDeleteLovely post Deanna! You have captured the true essence of spring! Missing my beloved hydrangea and peonies from up north! Florida has a variety of hydrangea but can't compare!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I just heard about Call the Midwife and so I am going to watch Season 1 on Netflix! Can't wait!

ReplyDeleteoh these are all so beautiful! wonderful burst of colours on your blog, truly amazing
ReplyDeleteWOW...that daffodil shot!! That must have brightened your drizzly day! I normally watch DWTS but haven't yet this season. I doesn't seem appealing for some reason. Have you seen Mr. Selfridge? Another great PBS miniseries!
ReplyDeleteDeanna,
ReplyDeleteThe 3rd picture is great. I love the angle and texture you used. The 4th and 5th pictures are beautiful. Keeps my spirits up on this cold morning.
The Rancher and I have been Grey's Anatomy watchers since the beginning. I have threatened to quit watching several times. With the recent decrease in s** scenes, I think the quality of the show has greatly improved. I look forward to watching it again. I have also been watching the new Dallas series. The season finale was last Monday, but it sounds like a 3rd season is in the works. True Drama!
The "Call teh Midwife"-serie sounds really interesting, Deanna! And your flowery Photos are filled with sunny spring atmosphere... always beautiful, fresh and new!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are all so gorgeous, Deanna. I'm very envious of your photography skills!
ReplyDeleteI'm usually on the computer, so I don't watch much tv. I have been watching Dallas and enjoying it. Call the Midwife sounds interesting, so I'll have to check it out.
Your flower shots are so beautiful! I've been inspired and have been trying to copy your flowers but mine seem too done. Not pretty and casual like you have. You've got it down pat. Glad you are finally having a little warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteA delightful post as always, Deanna. Love the flowers and your chit-chat. Just made my day. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThese flowers are gorgeous!! We are also getting a ton of rain so maybe that means some flowers for us?
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like spring flowers to bring a little sunshine to our lives! Even in the rain! I am one with the big dogs and muddy feet. My mop and I are always dancing! Oh, I love that show, 'Call The Midwife!' Isn't it great? My Mr. tolerates my addiction while he works on his laptop, but I think he secretly likes the show himself as it has a lovely story line.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comments on my blog.. You are a dear friend. Hugs, xoxo
I'm so impatient for the flowers to arrive. We've had a few daffs, but the tulips are being stubborn. Your photos are amazing as usual!
ReplyDeleteNot many flowers, here, yet. My forsythia started blooming this week - that's about it. I watched the first season of Call the Midwife, but have missed the new one, entirely. I guess I need to get caught up again. I always seem to be running behind... :-)
