San Diego Days

I have that delicious tired feeling again.  Worked out in the yard all day, one of those perfect days, temps in the 70's, blue sky, slight breeze, I call these kind of days "San Diego Days".  Several years ago we took a trip to California, stayed a few days in San Diego before heading up to visit out son in Los Angeles.  The days in San Diego were perfect weather every single day so when we experience a day like those, I refer to them lovingly as San Diego days.

Spent most of my time in the back yard today....still quite wet so clean-up is still not completed, still have a few spots to weed and rake, but with all the rain, and not too much sun, it's just too dang muddy.  Hopefully by next week, all will be complete.  Wow, I am usually quite done by now, sitting back and watching things grow...oh well.  There is no controlling Mother Nature.

Look at that green bug....he is probably enjoying munching on my roses.

And speaking of roses, they are out in full masses....this is the arbor that surrounds my front walk.

Couldn't help it....had to get a picture of the one and only little baby cardinal.  There are 2 more eggs in the nest, not sure what happened to the others, but one is moving and has a crack in it, so possibly another one is ready to enter the nest.  Mama Cardinal was just having fits all day today as I worked in the backyard.  I kept trying to re-assure her that I would not harm her little one, but somehow she just wasn't buying my promises.

A face only a mother could love!

Enjoy Saturday, hope it is gardening weather where you are.  There is not much that satisfies my soul like a good day in the garden.

"Sit outside at midnight and close your eyes; feel the grass, the air, the space.  Listen to birds for ten minutes at dawn.  Memorize a flower."  ~  Linda Hasselstrom

Until next time....

  4. That's an aphid on your rose - it will eat your roses down to little tiny nothings if you don't sprinkle them down with sevin dust.
I wish I loved the garden more, must be the few years I spent planting in the greenhouses that killed that joy, but I do love to enjoy our backyard.......after Dream Boy gets all the weeding & clean up done!
It is a late year for many of us to get things in order - we still don't have any annuals bought/planted - that's on today's list.
Have a happy weekend my dear!

  6. It's amazing how much work it is to have a garden. So much tending required. In my stage of life (young children underfoot) a plant just has to grow if I stick it in the ground because I don't have time to help it along. I guess I'm busy tending a garden of a different sort, though. Enjoy the fruit of your labor - its all lovely!

  8. I loved looking at your shots of your blooms. I can imagine the smell of those gorgeous roses, no wonder the bug wanted to stay. I bet the baby cardinal is now looking fluffy and sweet along with his/her brother/sister. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Chel x

  9. I'm getting my rose fix from your photos! I worked out all day in the perennial gardens. It was so cool this AM, I had to wear a fleece. I'm just so amazed that the plants seem to start growing while the snow is still on top of them. I actually have some poppies with buds already. I'm tired, too - a good tired.
