I Am Now My Mom...
Yes, I have done it...I have officially become my Mother. I went shopping yesterday for stuff that I needed for my adventures in the Smoky Mountains, remember I mentioned a while back that I am taking a week long photography class there. Am I excited, oh boy, yes. I needed to buy some much needed hiking shoes, I figured my tennis shoes just weren't the best choice for stepping on rocks, sticks & stones. I went to a place called Bass Pro Shop, oh lord, is that a place for men or what?? Fishing supplies, hunting supplies, and everything in between. Although they do have a ladies section, the other stuff for guys took up way more space. I saw all those fellows from Duck Dynasty, their faces plastered on mugs, plates, rugs, towels and more. I think I even spotted Larry the Cable Guy. Anyway, I giggled when the check-out lady asked me if I wanted a frequent buyers cards....that just might be the only time I visit that store since hunting, fishing and RVing are not in my "fun" time box. Now don't get me wrong, I think it's great that people enjoy being part of the outdoor crowd, I just find different ways to enjoy it.
Anyway, while I was out, I decided I needed to run by Kohl's and see if I could pick up a new warm top or two....the weather forecast is predicting weather in the 50's for most of the week, and in the 30's & 40's early mornings. I know we are going to be out shooting sun rises and sun sets so a few more toasty sweaters were on my list. OK, this is where my Mom comes into the story. As I was wandering the store, I decided I could probably use another pair of jeans, I always need to go to the Petites section for these. Now, I am not exceptionally tiny, just short, thus the need for petites. I came across some elastic waist stretch jeans. My Mom had some of those and I thought they were so "old lady"....well, I decided to try them on. OK, that's it....I am now my Mom. They were so comfortable, no zippers digging into your stomach especially when you are bending way down to get a good shot of whatever. And they had stretch to them, hot diggity dog, I bought 3 pair. I don't know about you, but I don't tuck my shirts in anymore, never wear a belt, unless it is one of those fancy ones that sorta just hang there and look pretty, so I thought whose gonna know that I am wearing elastic waist pull up jeans. (except all of you, but I know you will definitely keep my secret).
So here's my little Trick or Treat guy that I love...skinny legs and all
And another gnarly pumpkin with a great stem, this is probably my favorite that I have found this year. I like it so much I surrounded it with a fall colored wreath...she is like a queen sitting on her throne. (Oh I am definitely getting carried away with this pumpkin thing, but what character, don't you agree??)
So today, I am packing, getting the house in order since I don't like coming home after a week with a mess in the sink or elsewhere....and if there is time I will grab my camera to capture some more beauty while it's still here. Hope you all have a grand week.
Until next time.....
Made me laugh at everything you said, I wish I was going with you. I need another fall fix after my Portland trip. Have a wonderful time. Nothing wrong with the elastic, but when you get back you must go to Coldwater Creek and try on there stretch jeans oh my they are just the best. Gosh so comfortable, stylish, expensive but man do they feel so good. Loved that pumpkin you found with all it's warts, reminds me of my face. :0
ReplyDeleteHow you make me smile, Deanna!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, we do become out parents. :-)
Lol i love stretch jeans, great for all that bending over. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteHave a grand time, Deanna! The Smokies are so beautiful and the timing should be perfect. Be safe!
ReplyDeleteyou made me laugh - but good for you! go for comfort, i say!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that made me laugh. I am more and more my mother each day! I'm resisting the comfortable matronly shoes she used to buy, but I know it's only a matter of time. I bought a pair of Merrell shoes for hiking inOregon and they are awesome. Have fun on your trip!
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic time on your trip..I wish I could find something like that around here, I would do it in a heart-beat. Even a weekend would be fabulous! I love your stick legged trick or treater dude...cute!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful are the photos!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, RW & SK
I never thought I'd ever wear elastic waisted pants but after having that abdominal surgery, I discovered how comfortable they are! I have indulged in a couple of pairs of classic jeans (still love my blue jeans!) but there are days when those stretchy waists are what's needed. Enjoy the comfort Deanna! :)
DeleteI have not quite become my mother yet because she would wear cut off pants in summer with knee-high nylons! Yes, I know! I still like my regular waist jeans but usually buy the ones with stretch - they just fit better. You'll have a great time tramping around in the mountains taking photos. You definitely needed hiking boots. Have lots of fun adventures!
ReplyDeleteI am still smiling from reading this post...you are just too funny.....But I definitely know what you mean about sneaking in those elastic waste jeans...you figure hey how is anyone going to know in the first place...
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying all your fall decorations...You have collected some great pieces...
I hope you have the best time ever on your trip and the beautiful blue ridge mountains show off for you in every way....Sure wish I was going....
Hugs,
Nancy
lol, Deanna! I've been wearing stretchy jeans for years!! is there anything else? oh, actually I did just buy a pair from the Gap to take on my trip... usually I can't wait to get them off... I love, love, love your warty pumpkin... and have fun on your trip - sounds just awesome!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, right down to the mention of my husband's favorite store! I love your leaves, and the little pumpkin man. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful trip. I can't wait to hear about it and see your photos.
ReplyDeleteto quote a visitor to my blog today - "we all become our moms in varying degrees sooner or later." Looking for a jacket or sweater to wear with a sleeveless dress last weekend, my son scolded me on buying "old woman" clothes. Down right reprimanded me right then and there. So I guess what I'm saying is that my elastic waist jeans will have to wait.
ReplyDeleteHave a great and safe trip.
You are so funny Deanna! I have a couple of pair of elastic waste denim capris. I must becoming your mother too. :) I know what you mean though about becoming your mother. I'm becoming more like mine every day.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time at your photography class and enjoy the comfort of those jeans!
You are funny... Comfy clothes it is for me too. I am cold all of the time so I like either sweaters or fleece. Wonderful photos! Sounds like an exciting trip...
ReplyDeleteOh, I've been in those manly man stores and know what you mean. There is one in every town out here - lots of hikers, hunters and all that. I actually bought two cans of bear spray when I was there - great big canisters. (I had a bear wander through a while back) I have been looking for jeans with elastic waists - and thinking the same thing about being my Mom. But there comes a day when you value comfort over fashion and I am all about comfort these days! Your trip sounds fabulous. I hope you have a wonderful time. Love your pumpkin man and warty gourd. Hugs oxo
ReplyDeleteI have been to The Bass Pro Shop many times. When ever my nieces or nephew would come into town that is where I would take them. Because the BPS in Las Vegas has a huge aquarium in it. And they would have mermaid swimming around in it. Of course it was a gal in a mermaid suit. But I was always amazed at how she would swim over behind a rock to a tank with air and then swim around for quite awhile.. How the heck she held her breath that long was beyond me. But the kids and I love to watch her. I do hope you have the best trip.. I can't wait to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Hi Deanna Loved reading this post. It made me smile. Your photographs are stunning and I love those recent pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteI would love stretch jeans with a zipper cute story to go with your buying adventure! And that little pumpkin queen is adorable, this will be such an exciting photography week...
ReplyDeleteLaughing out loud, reading your lines about becoming your mother. Have a wonderful week, I can't wait to see your captures!
ReplyDeleteOH such a nice post to read to lift ones spirits. From the outdoor store to the buying of jeans. Then the icing on top is your beautiful photos. Enjoy your trip!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so cute! I suspect we all turn into our moms someday - some sooner than others. Enjoy those comfortable pant - they sound perfect, and I certainly won't tell ;-) Your trip sounds like so much fun - have a great time!
ReplyDeleteI love all your pumpkins. Think of it as a service to the rest of us--we don't have to buy them, we can just enjoy yours! :-) I am totally becoming my mother. When she was my age she always used to have me drive if we went somewhere after dark. I don't think I should ask my 12 and 14 year old to do that, but it would be kind of nice. The little signs of my mom started showing up long ago. I see them in my daughter too, but I'm not telling her that. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip. I love the elastic waist jeans story!
ReplyDeleteOh Deanna, you made me laugh... I think I've turned into my mom in many ways as well! I'm excited for you and your photography trip... LOVE it! Can't wait to see your shots....
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly brought a smile to my day! I will be avoiding mom jeans for as long as possible. I can't stand wearing jeans...whenever I get home I can't get those things off fast enough to put on my exercise pants so that I can be nice and comfy. Hope you have a great getaway!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see and hear all about your trip when you get back!
ReplyDeleteHaha....I've been my Mom for quite a while. I think it happens to all of us, sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteLove your pumpkins. And, looking forward to all the beautiful photos you'll share with us from your trip.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI had to read back a few posts after having my breath taken away by your beautiful photos from the Smokies. Oh, how I would LOVE to take a class like that! I just borrowed a tripod from a friend for night photography. I had no idea how much my hands shook until I tried one. And as for the pants? I wear work out pants all the time...not that I ever work out, but great for photography and I look less like "mom" in them! Ha!
