Today was cleaning lady day....if I didn't have her come every two weeks my house would probably remain messy all the time. I'm telling you, the older I get the lazier I become, shame on me. My Mother would not be proud. She was always so neat and organized....those genes just didn't find their way to my DNA....dang it. But anyway, the clean-up and clear-out began and with it I started tossing all the Christmas greenery aka paperwhites and poinsettias that had wilted and curled due to my lack of watering. But before they went the way of the garbage....I decided a shot or two was in order with my 50mm lens.
Then when I was in the process of tossing my red poinsettia I noticed many of the flowers were still quite beautiful. Better Homes & Gardens had an article several years ago about cutting poinsettias and using them in vases like bouquets. If you ask me if I saved that article, yeah...but don't ask me where it is. I just remembered it....so I cut them and placed them in this white pitcher and I love the red white and green combo....the red just pops. And again, using my 50mm I focused on the leaf in the first image....and on the tray in the 2nd. And btw if you love trays, I bought this at IKEA when I went over before Christmas to buy my daughter new slipcovers for her furniture which was on her Christmas list. I spotted this and felt the need to bring it home. It is pretty large so I'm thinking I'll use it alot. It housed all my glass candle holders with white candles during the holidays, and I am sure I will use it on the screen porch next summer. If I remember correctly it was less than $20, probably $19.99, but that's less than $20 right??
Now you know I am getting bored when I take pictures of my lunch...but again, practicing with my 50mm.
Tomorrow I am leaving, leaving the house anyway...at last. Our winter session of Bible Study begins. We are studying one of Beth Moore's courses...the book of James. Now James is one of the smaller books of the Bible and I understand Beth Moore memorizes the entire book. Wow, I have trouble just remembering a single Bible verse let alone a whole book. I have completed 2 Beth Moore studies, Esther and Daniel. I loved Esther, Daniel was a bit more challenging, wasn't fond of that one and Beth Moore can be a little over the top in her presentations, (she has videos with each lesson) but I understand she is a little calmer for the James study. And then after our morning session a group of us are meeting for lunch, actually I should probably refer to us as the Downton Abbey groupies, to confabulate over the first episode of season 4...so looking forward to leaving this house...I feel like I am getting out of jail, free, free, free at last. It is supposed to be a whopping 14 degrees tomorrow (with snow) and it has warmed up to a balmy 4 above zero right now. Well, the kids are wanting to go out and do their thing....so I'm off.

Until next time.....
cinder is too cute. good luck on your outing tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI have been cleaning up today too, way to go outside today. I also worked on my Bible Study for tomorrow morning...Beth Moore's Esther Study. She is amazing isn't she? Stay warm! I think you got more snow than we did (2 hours north)
ReplyDeleteOh my, love that Cinder look . . . great photo . . .
ReplyDeleteAnd the Poinsettia with the greens in the white vase . . . brilliant and vibrant . . .oh yes, I must try that too.
Enjoy getting out tomorrow, I am doing the same . . . I need it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the first episode of Downton Abbey.
Stay warm and safe . . .
enjoy your outings. it is so cold here in VA. no snow but so so cold. just nuts!! ( :
ReplyDeleteHi there, I did sign up for the class but haven't done a thing in it. My 50mm 1.4 is acting up so I will have to sent it in to Canon. Looks like your little one has the right idea. Hope it warms up soon for you. Glad you are getting out of jail tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteLove your poinsettia photos! I never thought about cutting them like that. Thanks for sharing that hint!
ReplyDeleteOh Cinder is just too cute. Enjoy your James study- I loved it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the flower photos! Hope you're staying warm. May need to go buy some grapes now, the picture is making me hungry!
ReplyDeleteAll great shots, and especially love cinder all snuggled in her blankie. Bet that bible study will be good. I love Beth Moore, and she always makes me think a little bit deeper that I would have otherwise. Be save. Enjoying your practice shots.
ReplyDeletePlease hive cinder a cuddle for me!!! Great pics-and such a busy lady you are!
ReplyDeleteI need a Downton Abbey group :(
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of cutting the poinsettia's - they look pretty in the white vase. Please be careful walking on that ice! xo Karen
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness......Cinder is beyond adorable snuggled in the throw!
ReplyDeleteCinder looks so cute all snuggled up there.. After seeing your photos I am definitely pulling out my 50mm..
ReplyDeleteBe careful out there in that snow..
Hugs~
Great job again with your 50mm! I eat grapes and a sandwich every day for lunch, so that shot resonated with me. :) Hope the bible study goes well. James is not one of my favorite books, but perhaps I just need to study it more.
ReplyDeleteDeanna,
ReplyDeleteCider is gorgeous. I hope you joined her on the couch. Looks like she has the right idea on a cold windy day.
I don't like to clean either. Unfortunately, I am a neat freak. I think having a cleaning lady come every two weeks would be wonderful!
Your poinsettia shots are elegant. I love the colors and color contrast you captured.
I hope you get out and enjoy your bible study. Be safe and stay warm.
Cinder is such a baby doll! Love the poinsettias in the vase--really pretty!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day tomorrow. I took Beth Moore's class in Daniel. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, though I thought the first half was better than the second half. I like the book of James. I bet the class will be great!
You will think I made this up but, my cleaning lady came today. She too comes every two weeks. As I've grown old(er), my mopping mojo has disappeared! BTW, according to a post on Facebook, Beth Moore's books are available for free download until Jan. 10. Amazon has them, and a friend downloaded them from iTunes.

I have been all bundled up just like Cinder. She is so cute peeking out of her blanket. We didn't get the snow that you did and I'm glad of that.
ReplyDeleteYou are getting some beautiful photos with your new lens!
We are hoping to get out today as well. No new snow overnight, hurray! I got a lot done at home but I am ready to get out! I have that Beth Moore James study. I was going to work through it on my own a couple of years ago. I think I made it through Chapter 2. I am not very good on my own.
ReplyDeleteAwww, that little Cinder is just so precious, Deanna!
ReplyDeleteI am so enjoying your 50mm photographs.
The detail you have captured in the last one is here is fantastic!
CInder certainly looks cozy. - That tray sounds pretty cool and the poinsettia's are lovely. With cats in the house I can't have them as they are toxic to cats.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your outing tomorrow. I get to go out too but mine is to have a root canal done. I'd rather be joining you!
It's good to visit with you again after my long break....I can't wait to go back and read your past posts and see all that's been going on with you....That first shot of Cinder is just precious and my absolute favorite....How could anyone not love that face and all bundled up in her blanket...It certainly looks like you're having fun with your 50mm....I need to take this class but then I need to take lots of classes....
ReplyDeleteMy Bible study starts next week and we seem to be on a Priscilla Shirer run as this will be our fourth one in a row...."Discerning the Voice of God".....Stay warm and watch that ice.....
Cinder looks adorable all bundled up!
