Random Five on Friday - The January 3rd, 2014 Edition

Happy to see that my blogging friend, Nancy has re-started the Random 5 on Friday practice...always fun to read little known and interesting tidbits on fellow bloggers.  Makes you really think of them as girlfriends that you could just sit and chat over a cup of nice warm coffee or tea. I'll provide the coffee and/or tea if you will bring the baked goods since my presence in the kitchen is very limited these days. Sounds like a plan.

Fact - I love berries hanging from trees, in any size, shape or color.  But I particularly like the ones above because they are 1) red (one of my fav colors) 2) they are shriveled which makes us related in some way and 3) they are snow covered, a bonus.

Fact - I also like to come across a critter or two in my wanderings and grab a snap before they bound off into the woods from whence they came.  This coyote just hung around for the longest time....wonder if he was frozen to the spot.

Fact - the term bird-brain comes to mind when I see these critters.  Uhh do ya think they need to be reminded that this is NOT water they are sitting on.

Fact - I love that we were dumped on yesterday with about 10 inches of snow.  The most we have had in several years in one shot....but now comes the cold and fact....I don't like that miserable below zero cold.  Time to "begin", a form of my word of the year (beginnings), a couple of new indoor projects for the year.

Fact - I love berries....oh I said that earlier didn't I, but not only do I love them hangin' but I love them sitting in pots too.  And because it was so dang cold while I was out in my bathrobe (yeah another fact, I do wander around outside in all kinds of weather with my bathrobe...I do believe every neighbor on my block probably has seen me in my bathrobe, and it ain't pretty either) you are going to get another berry shot.

I bought these before Christmas and they were so festive....but sadly they are approaching the time in their short life when they will be nothing but droppings swept away with the rest of the trash.

  2. Oh, yes! Right there with you on the berries. You got some real snow, didn't you? We got about half an inch. My word! Ten inches would close us down for a week. Your critter shots are gorgeous.

  4. Love your berries. And, you take such gorgeous photos of them.

Can you imagine what that much snow would do, here in Texas? It would shut us down, for sure.

Yesterday, our son took his family to NYC, for an after Christmas trip. What timing! But, those Austin kids are enjoying a rare chance at snow.

Stay warm....sounds like a bathrobe would be a little breezy, in all that snow...lol

  5. Oh I LOVE your photos the coyote one is awesome I have run into a few of them in my wintery hikes but never get a great shot. I am not loving this below normal cold we are having here in Eastern Canada either and I cannot wait till it warms up soon so I can get outside and explore again. Love the berries. B

  6. I love that Erma quote and something that I kept hearing in 2013, don't waste the talent God has given me. I often go get the paper in the morning in my p.j.'s Love that you are that comfortable in your robe :)

  7. Your snow is very pretty. My fav is the berry pic! Though the coyote is a bonus. I see foxes, deer, bunnies, and the Marion animal of choice - groundhog - often but they never stop and cooperate. BTW, it's low 20s here...but no snow. Stay warm.

  8. Loved reading your Random 5, Deanna, and those berries are oh so beautiful!
We got a little over a foot of snow yesterday, and it's pretty miserable today with -20 degree wind chills.
Supposed to be better tomorrow. :-)

    Have a fantastic weekend!

  10. What a super shot of the coyote- I can't believe he actually stood still for it! Those silly ducks...I imagine their bellies are a tad chilly. No snow here...I keep knocking wood.

  12. I very much enjoyed reading your R5F today. I love the way you write and agree that these sharings would be best done over some hot tea/cocoa and baked goods!! Or wine. :-) Your shots are marvelous and I love the softness of the bucket of berries. Also LUUVVV your closing quote!
    Visiting from R5F.

  14. each delightful photographs Deanna; I'm wondering where you picked up - or created the 'snow word and definition"? It adds a nice touch. The ducks, and the coyote all wonderful additions. Keep warm.

  16. I would love to see a coyote like that! You captured a great photo of him. I love red berries in the snow, too. There's such a lovely contrast in the photos. Stay warm and enjoy your indoor projects!

  18. The coyote must have been looking for the geese! My hubby saw a coyote run across our back yard yesterday evening. I have tried to zoom in on them when I see them go to the pond for a drink, but they are usually too fast for me. Your photos are beautiful. The berries are such a lovely color!

  20. Fantastic photos! I love the berries, too. You make the most of them. That coyote does look a bit frozen. We only got about 6 inches of snow this time around. But the cold is very, very cold! I'll bring some brownies. Hope you like lots of nuts.

  22. Oh my, I love your post . . . The clarity in your photos is "spot on."
You found my heart in those beautiful berries. Love the berries with a bit of green and the silver pail . . . all set in the snow. So very nice!

  23. The coyote is so cool! He looks a lot fatter and fluffier than the ones I've seen in Texas or Louisiana. The snow is so pretty. Bundle up and enjoy your hot beverage!

  24. I too enjoy berry shots, especially like your first photo, snow covered and red. That coyote looks like he was looking at you wondering why YOU were outside in the cold. Stopping by for the first time via Random 5.

  25. Oh, Deanna, you make me laugh! Lovely set of winter photos. The bright red berries are pretty against the snow.

  26. Great coyote shot, Deanna - I hope that wasn't near your home - you'd have to be careful of Cinder & Toby. I like the berry shots - a bit of bright in winter is always good. No bathrobe here, but I like the idea of one. I can see myself lolling with a steaming cup and a book instead of rushing into subzero weather to click on the skis before breakfast!

  27. WOW! Cool coyote! You make winter look so quiet. I love it when it is. It's just the wind that messes that up--but my kids are excited that our governor has decided to let them stay home and out of that wind on Monday. Brrr, it's gonna be cold!

  28. Love those berry shots and the one of the coyote too! The bird brain comment made me laugh. Stay warm as the coldest air of the season descends on us.

  29. Well I love that you love berries. I think one of my favorite of your berry photo's was of some yellow ones I believe in November.
How awesome that you got a Coyote shot. Poor thing does look cold.

  30. Hi Deanne. I loved reading your post today. Those geese s may not be as stupid as you think, if they sit long enough, they will float! you, like me, go outside in our dressing gowns. I have no problem with that! Love your berries especially in the snow.

  31. I love the shots of the berries in the snow. Just beautiful. And, it's okay to run around outside in your robe. I do it all the time, too.

  34. You are getting the snow and we are getting flooding and gales on our side of the pond . I love berries to happy and unassuming they really cheer you up on a grey day...

  35. I love the Erma Bombeck quote. Your photos are all gorgeous .. the red just pops against the snow (as does the coyote). Stay warm and wrapped up in your bath robe! Happy New Year!

  36. Great shot of the 'yote as my husband calls them -- unfortunately, he may have been ill as it's very unusual for them to stick put for that long... Happy New Year Deanna!
