Random Five On Friday - The March 21, 2014 Edition

Joining in with Nancy for her weekly meme....Random Five on Friday...hop on over and enjoy.

1) Happy Spring everyone.  Now admittedly it is definitely not Spring weather here in Chicagoland since I woke up to this yesterday morn......

The only one in my household that doesn't seem to mind the snow is Toby...

It didn't last long, the sun began shining and the temps warmed up into the 40's to welcome in our new season.

But we are supposed to soar into the 60's today which will be a literal heat wave.  Shorts and sandals will be the attire among the younger set today for sure, but this chick will keep with her less layered attire, probably stripping off one or possibly two layers as the temps rise.  But it's only a tease since the cold is AGAIN returning for the weekend and into next week.

2) I am headed to Charleston, SC on Tuesday for a week's stay which includes a photography workshop, "Charleston in Bloom" but now I am wondering just how much is going to be in bloom.  Hopefully some spring flowers will be popping their heads and a wildflower or two will be emerging, but let's just say the suitcase will be filled with warmer clothing in anticipation of cooler than expected temps. I made that mistake when I went to Phoenix in January.  I fully expected capri weather, but was greeted by much cooler temps which resulted in a shopping trip to add longer legged attire.

3) Yesterday, my oldest grand girl, Bailey took off work for the day and we went shopping at the outlet mall, dinner at the Corner Bakery, and bookclub together.  It is been far too long since I have been with either of my grand girls, with Bailey's job moving her to Rockford instead of convenient Naperville, and Brie is far away at school. Brie is on spring-break so I am meeting her for some girl time today.  My week is always brighter with my grands in view.

4)  I love that app Waterlogue, Even with my old phone it takes decent enough pictures that turn out to be little works of art.  I think it must have gone viral by now because I am seeing it everywhere. Everyone I show it too downloads it immediately and then they show their friends and family and it goes on and on.

5)  Whee, my son gave me a Kindle Fire for my birthday.  I love it...now I see my book titles in color, can enjoy magazines, newspapers, my e-mail...I never purchased any books for my old Kindle that contained pictures (ie: Cookbooks or even Photography Books) because of the lack of color.  But now that has been eliminated with this new gift.  Thank you, Lane. And btw, on my shopping trip yesterday I had to buy a pretty new Vera Bradley sleeve to wrap around my new gift....after all I did have my birthday coupon that made it's cost easier on the wallet.

And if you could, please hop over to my collaborative blog, Focusing On Life where I am sharing one of my writing assignments from the recent Writing class I just completed.

"Be willing to take the first step, no matter how small it is.  Concentrate on the fact that you are willing to learn.  Absolute miracles will happen."  ~ Louise Hay

Until the next time....

  3. Yes ... time with grans is always time well spent! Wow! A Kindle Fire with a fancy cover. Good for you! My daughter loves hers. And I'm chuckling - I love seeing all your Waterlogue photos! You've beat me to the punch. It's on my phone, I just haven't taken photos to try it out. Enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts, soon it will be here to stay.

  5. Oh my snow again...you've had it bad this winter for sure and on the 1st day of Spring, that should be a crime! At least Toby is enjoying the wintery weather.
I must say that I love the Waterlogue look and your floral piece was stunning. Just wish the computer had an app like that. BeFunky has a watercolor editing feature but it's not quite the same. Makes me want to go buy a fancier phone just so I can download and use the app.
Still haven't gotten into the Kindle yet but even that may change. So happy for you to have received a new one for your Birthday.
Looking forward to your Charleston photos.

  8. Yes to Waterlogue! Loving it. If I ever blog again, I will post some of them. Spring has been hard at work on our snow here, and for that I am grateful--WAY more grass in view today than yesterday. Can't wait to see what you find in Charleston. I am POSITIVE they have flowers by now.

  9. Not spring here in NY either, Deanna.
    It's so cold.

Your trip sounds wonderful, and since it further south that you are, things must be more spring-like, right??? :-)

Congratulations on your new Kindle. It must look oh so pretty with a Vera Bradley cover.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Deanna,
We are at 28*. This morning we had flurries with a little accumulation and wind. No Happy Spring Dance here because this is pretty typical for us. I hope spring has sprung in Charleston for your trip. Have a great time.
Yeah for Granddaughters. I am so glad you get to enjoy them like you do.
Congrats on the Kindle Fire; you will love it!

  12. I love the Corner Bakeries. I think that would be a good stop for the Coffee Shop Chronicles this summer. Maybe I can convince you to join me?

  13. More snow due here, too - we'll have Grands for the next 2 weeks over their spring breaks. I know the northeast is due for some cold and maybe snow - hope it doesn't go as far south as Charleston! I knew you'd enjoy Waterlogue (a new editing toy)! Safe Trip.

  14. Seems Toby is made of tough-stuff! I too find it hard to enjoy when the cold seeps through to your bones! Sweet watercolour effect of your wonderful colourful cup/saucer and roses that we saw a short while ago. Isn't it great how we can keep our lovely photos of the things we enjoy and keep reliving them? Wow, another photography workshop - you will be super excited! Enjoy your new Kindle Fire. You know as well as anyone, how much COLOUR does for our lives.

  15. Stopping by from R5F. We are not far from you in Southern Wisconsin, so experiencing the same weather that just won't quite turn to spring. We will be about a week behind you in heading to SC, but our destination is Hilton Head. Are you driving or flying? If you are driving, you should check out the tulip festival going on in Asheville, NC on your way back. It sounds so amazing!

  20. I keep saying I am going to have to download Waterlogue.. These photos look so cool. Here in the desert we are just a little too toasty for my liking. Its time too move on I think.. Thats the best part of having your house on wheels.. You can follow the good weather.

    Hugs~

  21. It's always good when we find our way out of the 'fog.' I too have been in a bit of a pit this winter, trying to come to terms with what retirement with disabilities means to me.
