When wondering what the subject of today's post would be I came across an article in the NY Times concerning "Toilet Texting". Now I am definitely NOT going into any great detail on this subject, but in essence the article is informing us of the percentages of people, male & female, younger & older that text or talk on their cell phone while sitting on the toilet. Does that say something about our population that we cannot even take care of personal business without the constant use of or obvious need of our cell phones?? This almost makes me gag, people. Why has our society become so enslaved to our cell phones? What happened to decorum, etiquette, civility, or manners for gosh sake?? Can I ask how you explain "the flush"? I will admit I stay pretty close to my laptop while home, and take it with me while on a trip, but it is not chained to my wrist, or next to me while in bed, and certainly not with me while I am taking care of personal "stuff". What would you do if you heard someone carrying on a conversation while in the stall next to yours in a public restroom?? Laugh? Frown and shake your head? Ignore? Make a comment about the "talker" to the person you are with saying it loud enough for the "talker" to hear? I am not sure what I would do, probably nothing since I can let out my frustration right here, through words, but that won't stop the obvious rise in"Toilet Texting". First Chicago banned the use of cell phones in cars without a hands-free devise, then it banned texting while driving (both very obvious needs for public safety purposes) now can we ban the use of cell phones in public restrooms and call it public etiquette? Just sayin....
It was warm again today, but certainly not as sunny as it was yesterday. Toby spent the entire day outside. Thank goodness we have a completely fenced in yard for him to roam in, he thinks he is protecting his property from any intruders, man or beast. And because he spent the day outdoors, his little paws and underbelly carried in half the mud that appears after the snow melts. YUK!! He came in with mud so thick and caked on his paws he had gained an inch in height. Toby is such a good little dog, he stands really quiet while I wash and wash and wash his little paws in the kitchen sink.
Such a pitiful looking dog. He needs a trim so bad, but because he loves to spend time outside, I usually leave it long in the winter-time.
It has been so incredibly warm here these little quince buds are beginning to expand....not too soon, sweet buds, the temps may say spring, but certainly not the calendar.

Until next time.....
hi deanna aren't these temps amazing for this time of year. The detail of your photos are super! Toby looks like he is such a sweetie! enjoy the weather!
ReplyDeleteIt kills me that people bring/ use their phones while on the toilet. They did a study& found e. Coli on phones ..so gross.
ReplyDeleteYour dog is just as sweet as can be!
Hmmm, I guess I will think twice before asking to use someone's cell phone? And I'm feeling your pain on the muddy paws - it's been raining here alot lately which we desperatley need but what a pain to clean those feet!! Those buds are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has been absolutely wonderful too, I just can't get over it! Toby looks like he was enjoying his time outside :)
ReplyDeletei guess i can sort of understand "texting" in the restroom. but not talking... not only are you there to take care of business but others are there as well to take care of business. i think i said that the right way. you know what i mean. so it's disrespectful to others in the restroom but also to the one you are speaking to. i would think you would say i will call you back in a bit sorry need to go to the restroom. nothing is that important or needs to be said. call them later. (:
ReplyDelete62 and sunny here yesterday...quite amazing. I have to say those paws look VERY familiar to me, haha.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the cell topic.. Hubby just got me one of those fancy smart phones.. In the first month I texted 15 times. And half of those were so I could figure the darn thing out.. If I am going to spend that much time figuring something out I think photo shop would be a much better use of my time. I just hate when I go out to dinner with friends and they are all on there phones texting.. What could be that important.. OK I am done now! Hee Hee.... Love the photos of you sweet puppy. Dirt and all!!!

Okay I have to admit that I have been guilty of talking on my phone while in a restroom both at home and in public. In fact I have a funny story...I was away on a trip and needed to call my mom so I excused myself and went into the restroom to talk. I was in the stall chatting with her and heard someone else in the stall next to me. They left and I came out of the stall and realized that I was actually in the Men's Room (by mistake)...Talk about embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteI know it seems yucky and perhaps not proper etiquette but I certainly don't think that means I can't live without my phone or that I have to carry it with me all the time. I don't make a habit of using in bathrooms but sometimes it happens.
On another note I Toby looks so sweet and your branch photo is quite lovely. Been playing around today with a photo of Thistles that I hope to post soon.
Deanna, your rant about talking on the cell phone while in the bathroom had me laughing. I for one do not do that. I have cell phone boundaries and talking in the potty is one of them. :)
ReplyDeleteGuess if one is a toilet texter there should be a bucket of rice available!
ReplyDeleteToby is a cutie!
Sweet photos of Toby! love those muddy paws!
ReplyDeleteThe quince buds look like little berries. You have captured them beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about people and their cell phones.
ReplyDeleteToby is such a cutie.
I so agree with you on the texting/phone conversations. I don't take my phone with me when I go anywhere public (stores, etc...) I leave it behind in the truck.
ReplyDeleteToby would really enjoy our farm -- he could chase the chickens around. :)
Have a wonderful day, Deanna.
Toby is so cute and to let you wash his feet is adorable. I have a confession to make. Before I go to bed I do ready my emails and look at flickr photos in my bathroom. For two reasons really. Its the warmest room in the house and It's totally my bathroom and my husband leaves me in peace in there!! I wouldn't generally talk on the phone though. I do have my dignity!
ReplyDeleteAwww... I LOVE Toby! :)
ReplyDeleteCell phones in the toilet? Um . . . Not so much. LOL...
Beautiful berry photo...the tones in it are lovely.
