Vertical vs Horizontal = A Good Thing

Today, I am in a vertical position vs horizontal which has been the norm for the last few days, I have taken a much needed shower, washed my unclean hair, put on "not embarrassed to be seen in" clothing, and feel a return to the world of normal almost upon me.  Never underestimate the world of normal, when it's not around, it is truly missed.  And speaking of normal....normal people need to go grocery shopping and that is on my "things to do today".  Going grocery shopping is definitely not on my favorite things to do list, but when the refrigerator echos when the door opens, and the cupboards lay bare of even a simple loaf of bread, then grocery shopping it is.  Which reminds me, never visit pinterest while hungry.  It's kinda like that rule of thumb about not going grocery shopping while hungry, add to that....never visit pinterest while hungry.  It does you no good to look at all those delicious cakes, pies, salads, meats, cupcakes, veggies etc etc, it only makes you salivate  (aka drool) more and your tummy growl excessively loud.

The lady that lives next door has a rather large apple tree in her side yard.  She never picks the apples, rather lets the branches get so heavy with these little red orbs that they are usually dragging the ground which in turn attracts the Canada geese.  Now Canada geese seem to love these little red apples but not only do they leave the mess of the half eaten apples but they leave "their" mess, if you know what I mean, which creates a rather nasty area.  I walked over this afternoon and gathered a few apples just for a photo shoot, well, I told you she never picks them, and it's only the geese I am taking from....believe me, there are more than enough to go around.  The geese will definitely not starve just because I took a handful.

Even tho the apples are ripening on the trees and the kiddos have gone back to school, the weather is definitely still summertime.  We are in for a heat wave for at least the next 10 or more days, up in the 90's each day with very little rain predicted.  I know a lot of schools have air-conditioning, but I know there are probably just as many that don't.  Poor kids, I am thinkin' I am sorta glad I am not a kid in school right now in one of those schools without air-conditioning.  But now that I think about it, I grew up in Dallas, where hot was the norm pretty much through October, and our schools definitely did not have air-conditioning and somehow we managed....I say this as my air just kicked on and I can feel the coolness hit the back of my neck.....yeah, I'll say it again, glad I am not a kid in school right now.

  1. I need to find me a neighbor with a fruit tree for sure...love being able to still have the branch and leaves attached. And...well...the schools here do have A/C now, thank goodness, with the feel like temps well over 100 these days!! It's pretty quiet here at my house today...the first day my girl didn't come home at 3:00...quiet AND sad today!

  2. So glad you are up and that you were well enough to take pictures at least. I can't even watch the cooking channel because I get hungry let alone look at a magazine with food in it. The apples look delish as well as the photography. My granddaughter has been back to school for 2 weeks and this would have been her third week but she got sick with a fever and cold on Friday so my daughter kept her home today. Something is going around. Too early for such nonsense.

  3. So glad you are on the mend! I think you made perfectly good use of the apples. After all, art and beauty both have their places. We're in for our hottest stretch this summer as well.

  8. I'm glad you feel like being vertical again! Isn't it amazing how good a shower and hair wash can make you feel after being under the weather?

The apples are so clear in your photos, I was sure I could reach through and pick one. Sadly, I couldn't. :-) But the photos are really pretty!

  9. Glad you are feeling better and are out and about taking pictures and going grocery shopping. I love the picture of the apple hanging on the tree.
We are having that horrible heat and humidity here too and no rain. The kids here don't go back to school until next week.

  10. I'm so glad you're now vertical! Yeah - pinterest while hungry - I agree, not the best idea. My daughter is a teacher in a Chicago classroom without air conditioning - I feel for her. Happy grocery shopping!

  12. Love your photos of the apples. The U.P. where my daughter is, is getting this heat too, which is so funny since most of the summer they were lucky if they got into the 70's. Their apartment definitely does not have AC, but I told her in January she will miss this heat. I look forward to a lovely September.

  21. They look so pretty. I love the way old apple trees look. We have canadian geese that fly over to the sea all the time now. They do make a mess in the park

  22. Well I'm happy you are feeling much better and even had the time to gather a few of these apples and create such lovely works of art with them.

  25. Beautiful images. Those apples are good photo subjects!
I'm glad I don't teach anymore. The temps in my inner city classroom used to get to over 100 and the windows wouldn't work.

  26. Only you, Deanna, can make an apple look so pretty! Beautiful photos, as always!! And yes, I'm so glad I'm not in school now, too. It's so hot here. Back when I was in school, it didn't start until after Labor Day and I don't remember it being so unbearably hot then.

  27. What a waste to leave the apples. Imagine all the crumbles and pies not to mention chutneys that the woman could have! My kids go back to school next week and their uniform is black which absorbs the heat. My daughter is always moaning at the head teacher and asking who the clown was who designed it! Take care. 28. I am so happy to hear you're feeling better!! I have to confess my husband and I stole some apricots off of a strangers tree. There were so many we didn't think they would mind. It kinda looked like an abandoned house anyway. Boy they were yummy!

    Hugs~
