It is another really, really crummy day today. The temps are in the 40's, cloudy with occasional rain. That is the weather report from this part of the world not that you necessarily wanted to hear that however, the first question out of my mother's mouth when she spoke to anyone was "what's your weather like?" Well, Mom, if you are reading my blog in heaven I have answered your 1st question. Her second question usually was about food or what time are you going to eat. I do believe as people begin to age, no what I mean is, when people get "old" there only seems to be 2 things on their minds...the weather & food. Am I right? As soon as my Mom would finish 1 meal, she would begin thinking about the next. Mom was about as big as a bird...she ate very little, but she did eat 3 meals a day without fail. I may sound like I am making "fun" of her, but you must know I loved her and miss her daily. She lived with us the last 2 1/2 years of her life, passing away in Nov 2010 from a stroke. I loved the time we spent together. After I got married in 1964 (my gosh that makes me sound really old) I would only see my Mom 1 or 2 times a year for brief visits. After she got sick (pnemonia) she needed some time to recoup so I moved her in with us. I got to know my Mom all over again, she was a sweetheart and such a strong person (not physically, she couldn't open her bottle of wine without help) but strong in will & determination. Many afternoons were spent sitting outside, soaking up the sun, and listening to Mom tell stories of her childhood. She became my best friend, a confidant, and a mentor. I feel so blessed to have spent the last years of her life by her side.
This weather has got me blue, I think that is why I am thinking of my Mom. Afternoons like this we would play cards to pass the time. Always have our glass of wine at 5:00 PM, cook dinner (ofcourse) and plan on what we would watch on TV that evening. May sound boring to some, but it was completely satisfying.
Feeling blue, but I am lovin' these 2 blue flower images. The top one is droplets of rain on my front porch pansies. The one below is a neighbor's blue phlox spilling over their stone wall. Maybe tomorrow when the sun is predicted to shine I will get out of my "blue" mood.
Till next time.....
Oh, Deanna, your mother sounds so much like mine! Regarding the weather and food, well she is like that as well. I am still lucky enough to have her -- she's 84 in chronological age but seems so much younger. I love spending time with her. Last summer, my sister built her a little house on their property and their two decks connect via a catwalk. She and my sister spend a lot of time together, even though my sister is still working. I go up (about 2-1/2 hours away) one weekend a month to spend with them and the times together are cherished. My sister and I are hopeful that we will have her around for quite a few more years. I hope your weather improves and I am happy to become a regular visitor to your blog. Mine is terriporter@typepad.com if you care to visit me.
