Today was B&N coffee time with my gal pals, but 3 of them are leaving for their summer places and won't be around much if any this summer. Insert sad face here....!! And then off to the final 1st Wednesday Book Club luncheon and book review for the summer. We don't gather again until September, another group I will miss seeing this summer. We enjoy a nice lunch and after lunch one of the members presents a book review. During the winter after a pleasant lunch when we are all bundled up in cozy sweaters and jackets, many have a tendency to dose off during the presentations, which unfortunately I have been guilty of in the past. I have volunteered to be a presenter next year during the winter-time, I wonder how I am going to feel when I look out on my audience and see heads bobbing...hmmm. My choice for lunch today was a summer salad made with grains, (quinoa, never knew how to pronounce that word until recently, I wanted to pronounce it quin o aa but I think it's pronounced keen wa...who comes up with these names?) fava beans (reminds me of Silence of the Lambs) chickpeas, and kale. Since I don't eat well at times I thought this would be the healthiest choice. It was very tasty but with all those beans I have been having frequent reminders of them ever since. Decided not to go to summer Bible study this evening for just that reason. (snort!) And yes, I was wide awake the entire time, in case you wondered.
Sitting on the back porch this evening I spotted two Mourning Doves (Love Birds) landing on the dead tree branches in my neighbors back yard (another story) and grabbed my camera for what I hoped would be a "love" shot. Not so much, they must have been in a disagreement because they turned their backs on each other and never spoke. Obviously a lover's spat.
My roses are blooming.....yea!!!
And I still have peonies yet to bloom.... (and just because I have a little bit of fence in this shot, I am joining Theresa at The Run*A*Round Ranch Report for her Good Fences on Thursdays.
I love summer.

Until next time.....
Such a beautiful day it looks like you had. I am so jealous about those peonies which are one of my favorite flowers. I love the idea of your book club and only wish I could find one of those here to participate in. What fun. can only imagine how lovely your flower garden is. It has rained so much here that its a wonder everything didn't drown. Lovely shots Deanna and so glad you are enjoying your amazing spring. Hugs to you from the Lone Star state
ReplyDeleteI love summer too. And yard work. It is good for the soul!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day! The picture of the doves is stunning.
ReplyDeletelove the peony bud! and the 'lovers' quarrel' shot made me laugh. glad you're enjoying your gardening!
ReplyDeletethe gorgeous Peony bud is the promise of becoming even more beautiful. Hope the doves are now on speaking terms!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweet mourning doves and your pretty roses. Your peonies will be lovely too. Lovely post and images. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a good day.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I always love your photos.
What a lovely and blessed day . . . Praise God for His beautiful world:)
ReplyDeleteNow you have the perfect weather. Here it's turning HOT (temps expected in the mid 90's this coming week). I'm trying to garden some but when it's that hot outside I don't get much done.
ReplyDeleteLoved your pretty photo of the Doves. We have Collard Doves that visit everyday for the seed I leave out and they are fun to watch. - Very lovely peony shot with that "hint" of a fence.
I thoroughly enjoyed your story of your friends, then morning doves. Your pictures of the flower bud delightful.
ReplyDeleteAll looks good for you. Smart move you made. Let someone do your garden . Now you have more time to enjoy all the loveliness around you. Nice cup of tea or coffee.
You have it made girl.
Fun post today, Deanna - love the mourning doves. So nice to get out in the garden and eat healthy. Beans have the same effect on me, but I love them. I used to call them my 'kid repellent', ha ha! Hopefully you will get invited to one of the lady's summer homes...perhaps you can hint around :) You will have to bring a whistle to your book clubs next fall - that will wake them up! Just randomly let out a blast now and again :) Or maybe you can just eat lots of beans! :) xo Karen
ReplyDeleteSo glad the gorgeous weather found you! And that you've found the key to enjoying gardening again. I have to agree ... the maintenance is not the fun part. And are you ever going to have fun when those peonies bloom!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful photography as usual.
ReplyDeleteI love all the "pinks" in your head photos . . .
ReplyDeleteEspecially that pink sweater on the furry kiddo.
The Mourning Doves are pretty sweet, even though they seem to be having a "moment!"
Sounds like a fine summer day. Love the shot of the Mourning Doves.
ReplyDeleteWe had quinoa last night. Always good for a good cleansing :)
ReplyDeleteHee hee. The lover's spat! :)
ReplyDeleteThe last freeze of winter zapped so much of our shrubs and flowers that blooms are far and hard to find. Very pretty peonies and the doves, while a little on the outs, are lovely as well.
