All I see is the white puffs of heat escaping from the chimneys and flues all across the neighborhood dancing from east to west, north and south depending on the wind. The sky is the color of steel blue with a few white clouds in the southern sky and again no snow.
It is too cold for me to venture out today, thank goodness there are no pressing appointments or "must do" lists that entail bundling into my coat, gloves & hat to sit shivering in the car until the heater throws out its warm blasts. I would rather stay inside and have a cup of hot tea from a pretty cup.
Toby has been in and out at least 5 times today. His choice is to be outside, but even he barks to be let inside after only a few minutes of being out in the tundra.
Hot soup for dinner and probably an early climb into bed this evening with the electric blanket turned on high and a good book to read. Sounds like the best plan for this blast of winter that has settled in and is not leaving until late this week.
Brew me a cup for a winter's night
For the wind howls loud and the furies fight
Spice it with love and stir it with care
And I'll toast our bright eyes
My sweetheart fair

Until next time.....
beautiful shot of matching blooms. :) do stay warm. my dogs have been in/out about 25 times today - thank goodness i'm not as cold as you are there. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's windy here...but bet it's not as cold as there! Hope you enjoyed your tea in that pretty cup.
ReplyDeleteDeanna...what a lovely scene you set up here. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day for just what you are doing and planning to do later.....To me a good cold day, or a riainy day just gives me permission to do the things inside i love to do most.....with no guilt of having to be outside....Stay warm and enjoy your "cold" day.....
ReplyDeleteYour teacup and saucer...oh so gorgeous! My grandmother passed her tea cup collection to my oldest daughter. She has some amazing ones...wishing for one of those right now, after seeing your post☺ You talked about being curled up with a good book, I am reading a fantastic one at the moment...One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus. Stay warm♥
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking how glad I am that it's a holiday and we don't need to leave the house either. Temps won't get above 0ºF here today! Glad the mail lady has the day off too. :-) Soup for supper at our house too. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post. So sorry you are still missing the snow, you live on the wrong side of the lake! Libbi pushed me outside this afternoon and romped & romped through the 3 inches of fluffy stuff on the ground. She was SO excited to romp in the freshly fallen snow. If I had a way to bottle it up & send it your way.....I would do it in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteStay warm my friend....stay warm.
Stay warm and cozy inside! Still unseasonably warm in Denver and the mountains. No snow in sight - I hope you fare better. A perfect match between your roses and the delicate cup.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous rose-cup you have! :D
ReplyDeleteStay warm and cosy and enjoy your book. :)
Sounds perfect...except for the freezing temps. You have a beautiful cup collection.
ReplyDeleteLifting my cuppa to you ... as I head downstairs for my own evening cuppa!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty picture that makes...just a teacup and a rose....
ReplyDeleteoh Deanna! So the cold has arrived in Chicago huh? This winter is forecast to leave us this weekend with what else a storm. But we need the storm to get the yuck out of the air so we can breath. Today wasn't too bad tho. But the high temps are still in the teens or twenties. We have had 23 days straight with the high temps only in the twenties. Our air is stuck and the ski resorts have temps in the 40s. So odd.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and setting you described. thank you.
The teacup matches your roses! So pretty. Yes it was a good day to stay inside. It didn't get above zero here today and is supposed to be a really in the deep freeze tonight.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
All that and STILL no snow?! The nerve. Your plan of book and electric blanket sounds like just the ticket. Oh, and your photo of the cup with actual roses to match the design is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo my friend. Say warm...
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Winter officially showed up today and it is ubber cold here as well (and at this point, I'm totally okay with no snow). Your tea cup is beautiful and delightful with the rose accent.
ReplyDeleteYour photo is so classy! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty like afternoon tea at a little tea room in Devon all you need is some scones with cream and jam...
ReplyDeleteI have a rose cup very similar, such a beautiful photo!! You have inspired me to go find that cup and my dried up roses.... :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo Deanna! Stay warm and enjoy that book!
