Six States Later

I have returned from my whirlwind trip to Asheville, NC.  We had a terrific time, ate good food, saw lots of sites, took a bazillion pictures, and watched Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey smash his lovely roadster, wiping his name off of the line-up for next season's episodes.  For those of you who are not watching Downton Abbey, (there are probably only about 2 people left who are not) we, who are Downton fans, are now in mourning for the passing of the 2nd member of the Grantham household during this season....which was far too short I might add.

On our way home today, driving very close to Lexington, KY, we took a little detour into horse country,   finding rolling hills, beautiful horses, and grand stables and homes.  We turned on Crawley Ln., which I thought was quite appropriate in honor of Matthew's passing and found this splendid horse farm....(it was really just pure luck that we happened to turn at this corner and I couldn't resist stopping to get a quick pic)


Isn't this a beauty...and with that Kentucky sky, wowzer.


Here is a close-up of the horse barn....they sure do know how to treat their horses in Kentucky.....the home of fast women and beautiful horses (or so they say).

    So glad you are home safe and sound....I can't wait to see and hear about your time in our state.....

    Kentucky is beautiful and their horses and barns are incredible and your shot is no exception....Awesome...

    Glad to hear you had a good trip! It sure looks pretty there. I was pretty disappointed to see that Matthew was killed off last night...he was one of my favorites :(

    well, how lucky to see that on this occasion. i was shocked yet again. never had a clue. i wonder where the up & coming shows on Downton Abbey will go? ... could it get any worse? dare i ask??!! i'm nervous!??!!?!

    so cool!! i love the barn. so pretty. love the 3 distinct cupolas.

    Okay - I'm sitting in a room with 4 people & none of us have watched the Downton Abbey series..........yet.

    Those horses live better than all my family rolled up together! Wow! That is some stable! I'd bet it's air conditioned and central heated!!!

    Hi, I'm visiting from Barn Charm.
    I'm one of those 2 people who don't watch Downton Abbey, but I can imagine what a shocker that must have been.
    Love your photos; I'm thinking we've seen this same barn on some of our trips through Kentucky. What a beautiful state.

    Nice! Am waiting for the Asheville pics, wondering if you got snowed in. I'm in the foothills in an adjacent county; bands of snow all around us, but we got only flurries.

    Did you wave at me on your way by? I'm about 30 miles south of where you were. And you're right ... these horse barns must be seen to be believed. Glad you're home safely and had a wonderful time (not that there was any doubt!).

    I'm glad you had a good trip and glad to see you posting. I was really upset with Julian Fellowes axing yet another beloved family member. Heartsick! Love your photos, each one! Finding that Crawley street sign was awesome!

    Kentucky has the most amazing barns. When I lived there some of the farms had horse jacuzzi's! Lucky horsey's! BEAUTIFUL images!
