Did you like my word yesterday? Have you used it yet? The word was temerity. I introduced the word to the women attending Bible Study this morning. Now, introducing new words to this group of women is not something I normally do, however since we are studying the Book of Ruth I thought the word was quite appropriate to Ruth's personality and what makes this woman tick. If you recall, the word temerity means bold with a big dose of braveness and some rashness thrown in. Now if any of you have the slightest knowledge of the story of Ruth, you know this woman had a huge amount of bravery, and certainly had to be a little rash when she left her homeland and her family, after becoming a young widow, and followed her Mother-In-Law to a new land, leaving everything behind. Now that woman had temerity. How many of us would leave everything that we had ever known in our entire lives to follow our Mother-In-Law?? Holy cow....Temerity with a capital T. So try to use the word this week and make everyone think you are really smart.
OK, I am on a roll with these words...I guess I want to get smart fast beings as I am on the downhill side of my life...this isn't morbid, just the truth. Second word this week is Quagmire, meaning a soggy, soft piece of land that if you walked into it, your shoes would most likely be sucked off. This is exactly what happened to the corn fields after 10 inches of melting snow, along with buckets of rain....one big quagmire.
And because I don't want you feeling as tho you have been left in a quagmire....a bunch of daffodils to brighten the day.
The sun is shining here, but the temps are hovering around 30 degrees...not exactly springtime temps, but the grocery stores are filled with daffodils and tulips right now, so spring may not be leaping forth outside but inside my house spring has sprung.
Linking with Madge's
Rurality.
Until next time....
sweet quote on the daffy pic. i like the word quagmire.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't known temerity, but certainly quagmire. I'd have preferred temerity foremost though. Quagmires aren't pretty!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'd say my younger son is filled with Temerity as he is making a bold move with a huge dose of braveness to Seattle where he knows no one.
ReplyDeleteI think I could use a good dose of Temerity right now as our weather is looking very much like a Quagmire. I need some of those bright daffodils to bring a little sunshine in. xx
ReplyDeleteLove those daffodils!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Ruth, she definitely was a woman who had temerity...In fact, most of the women of the Bible had a good dose of it or they would not have survived...That was a new word for me but I am familiar with quagmire.
ReplyDeleteI learned the meaning of that word when I was in the fifth grade and had gone home with a friend from school who lived in the country...She had the bright idea of running across an open field but neither of us knew it was quagmire.
My brand new shoes were sucked off my feet and I cried all the way back to her house.. The experience made an indelible impression on me...
You are really keeping us on our toes with these new words.....
You are too funny.. If I tried to use those words at my Ladies card game tomorrow they would laugh me out of the house. So Im going to try it.. Love your pretty photos..
ReplyDeleteI, for one, would not be following my mother in law anywhere. :/ Beautiful images and words today. I wonder if A.A. Milne was inspired by the daffodil's round shape and color in the creation of Winnie the Pooh?
ReplyDeleteEvery time it rains, our back yard is a quagmire...and the dogs bring in half the back yard, so my kitchen becomes a quagmire, of sorts. :) I used it twice. Someone else used temerity yesterday...not you, cuz I didn't come visit yesterday...don't know how I missed that one....but someone used it and I thought, "what they devil are they talkin' about?" Now, I'm so lazy I didn't look it up. Thanks for clearing that one up for me. Now, I'll know, if I can remember from one day to the next.
ReplyDeleteI love A.A. Milne. What is it that several people are using quotes from him lately? (that is a "he", isn't it?) (I guess I should just look him up...lol) So this morning when Caletta said something about her 5 acre woods, it made me think Winnie the Pooh, even though his is 100 acre wood. I ramble. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.
I am just so smitten with your fog pictures that I wake each morning wishing and praying for fog. My husband is not a fan of my weather wishes as he would have to drive in it so I'm thinking each of our prayers/wishes are cancelling each other out. Perhaps a weekend morning with fog - yes, please!
ReplyDeleteHa, considering I'm in a brain fog, I'm waiting patiently for my big achievement. Might be a while. Enjoyed your photos and follow up on temerity. Maybe all these big words will help clear my head. Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been in a quagmire or two! Here's you a word: tenacious. And thanks for the daffydills!

ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' where you're going with the "brainy" word thing! Although, I did already know the meaning of today's word, I'll still be looking forward to future words to slip into my memory bank. The images are true opposites, with the latter one waving good-bye to us with a warm smile! :-)
ReplyDeleteFun! Would you believe "quagmire" is one of my favorite words? I love the way it rolls off the tongue. Yeah ... weird. :-D
ReplyDeleteQuagmire a lovely meaty word lol......
ReplyDeleteI agree Ruth was one brave young woman... and quagmire, that applies to life situations sometimes too, sicky and sucking... Psalm 40:2 says: 'He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm...' I am so thankful for His salvation in all it's nuances.... Thank you for joining in 'Rurality Blog Hop #6' Hope to see you next Wednesday for #7...
