Forever Autumn....

Linking up to Kathy's Song-ography today which just happens to be "Forever Autumn" by the Moody Blues....don't know the song, but the title won my heart.  Not that I want Autumn to be forever, but sure would like for it to stick around longer than it does.  By the end of this month, which is flying by I might add like all the rest of the months this past year, all of the leaves will be gone from the trees and nothing but bare limbs remain until April.   So, yes, I would love for Autumn to hang around (hee hee little play on words there, did ya get it??) a little longer than it does.

I can easily hang on a Sunday, sometimes not even getting dressed until maybe sometime in the afternoon, catching up on TV shows, reading....just hangin'.  But not today, I have that new camera that I am lovin' (Nikon D7100) so off I went around the neighborhood.  I drove up and down the streets in the older section of my town, and I wasn't disappointed.  I must say, I am becoming a master at car window photography...

Squirrels are busy gathering their nuts for their winter-time food supply....

Front porches show signs of the season...love how they coordinated their pumpkins and mums with their house colors....

Some really go all out in their Halloween decorations...

Then I did stop and get out of the car at a playground that had a maple tree that was blazing with color. While there I happened to notice the red berries (and you know how I love red berries) that had fallen on the ground and found their way into the cracks of the sidewalks.

Here is the blazing maple tree that I circled the block, came back and parked for.  I had difficulty with getting a good shot of this beauty.  Too many distractions in the background...cars, signs, houses, so this is the best I could come away with...as you can see I was down low and me getting up from a down low position is so not graceful especially in a public place with eyes watching...

It began to get cloudy and the winds picked up so I returned to my car and headed for home.  Then decided to pull into a park that I have never visited to investigate a little, but before I even stopped, I drove by an area filled with dried seed heads.  I saw the flick of yellow and heard their high pitched tweets and knew this would be a favorite spot for finches.  Again, not even getting out of the car, I sat and waited and watched.

Look at these beauties...aren't they just too sweet and all from my car window and my trusty Tamron 18-270 lens....love that lens.  But I am having issues with sizing my images correctly for this blog.  I keep trying new ways, and can't seem to settle on the perfect size.  I don't like the images too small, but I don't want them too large either.  Anyone have any words of wisdom.

And fyi...I have been taping a lot of the new shows and caught up with a couple of them last night.  I have to make some decisions as to what I am going to continue watching, just can't watch them all...anybody got a favorite yet??

Until next time....

  1. The images of the little finch are simply stunning! I love the one of the berries on the ground, too. I'm glad you are having so much fun with your new camera! And sharing it with all of us :) We are still watching West Wing -- somehow it's so well written that all the new shows pale in comparison. Too formulaic. But I'm sure we'll still watch our favorites -- Person of Interest, NCIS. Oh, and we're really enjoying The Voice!

  2. i like the blacklist. i think that's the only new show i've picked up. :) the goldfinches are adorable.

your blog page was easy to read and view at this size. sometimes it is too large and the edge falls off the page, but this was easy.

  4. Deanna you captured some lovely fall images here. I love seeing how people decorate their houses outside for the season. That tree had some lovely colors. It is hard to get a shot when cars are in the way (or power lines). I love that you shot those berries in the crack of the sidewalk. Not everyone sees their beauty but you did.

  6. Such beautiful photos--I thought the ones you took with your old camera were so amazing and you just keep getting better! I'm a drive by photo shooter too sometimes;) I have always edited my photos to 600pixel size (largest dimension for rectangles) for posting on my blog and for classes like BPC if that helps you any??? Finches are all ready changing to their winter color--can you believe it! I have a finch feeder in my backyard and hope to get some plants that will provide seeds for them by next summer so I can get rid of the ugly feeder. So much prettier to see them feeding in their natural habitat!

  8. You've sure captured some pretty fall images! I especially like the ones of the birds and the grasses. Gosh, those are great! I think your vertical images are a really good size...not too big, not too little. I edit all my photos to be the same width, which is 780 pixels. Sometimes I think I should make them a bit bigger, but then I'd have to mess with everything else on my blog and that doesn't sound fun :)

  10. Those photos of the finches just take my breath away--stunning!! I have not perfected my car window photography. The other day I saw a wild turkey on my street and tried to get a photo. I wasn't quick enough, though--a car pulled up behind me and the bird disappeared.

The size of these photos are really nice. Thank you for sharing your fall walk/ride!

  12. You have a wonderful eye for the beauty that surrounds you, Deanna! And a wonderful sense of humor! I laughed at your description of getting up in public - that is me in the grocery store finding something on the bottom shelf. Your photos today are gorgeous. Haven't found a favorite new show yet, still trying to decide, too. Hope your week is lovely. xoxo

  16. Deanna, you are giving a whole new meaning to a "drive by shooting"! haha. You have such a fabulous eye when it comes to photography my friend. And I know you love your new camera BUT...I'm giving all the credit for these gorgeous shots to YOUR talent! I always look forward to seeing what beautiful images you bring for our enjoyment. Thanks for joining in on Song-ography!

  17. Love the way people decorate their porches and the finch shot is stunning. Size of photos are fine but no smaller please.

  18. Decorated porches as so attractive, not something we see over here. Love the finches. As for Tv shows am enjoying Scandal quite a bit nowhere near as good as The West Wing though..

  20. You always find the most interesting things to shoot; the decorated porches and that little finch are just awesome.....With your talent and that new camera, I think you are ready to hang out your shingle....Wish you were closer so I could take lessons from you....

I hope your Monday is a great one...

  21. I vote for The Blacklist - and it's normally not my kind of show! Sweet goldfinches. You are doing so great with your new toy.

  22. I am just amazed with the colors you are already experiencing up north...beautiful. I am still watching the old standby's....every time I start watching a new series they cancel it.

  23. You are doing some amazing stuff with that new camera - and a 18-270 (sounds like something that was once on my wish list pre-college admission on the kids and now only shows signs of cobwebs).

The Neighbors - quirky, but I get a good laugh (for the most part), The Middle, Modern Family (usual suspects), and seems like I'm missing one --- but those are on my list.

  24. I loved your photo journey. Such beautiful pictures.
As for the new shows... my favorite is Castle.

  25. Congrats on your new camera, Deanna! Love all these gorgeous Autumn photos but the finches are amazing! xoxo

    p.s - Cinder is just adorable! {and yes, I'm that far behind! lol!}

  26. Oh your efforts were worth it- all great shots! I don't have any show I am partial to except for DD and maybe NCIS...which I only ever catch the reruns. I wanted to like Michael J Foxes' new show...but not sure about it. Have a great week!

  27. Love the finches. I do want to watch "The Blacklist. I saw some filming in August and put that on my list. I watched the first episode of the Michael J. Fox show and really wanted to like it, but just didn't find it very funny. Otherwise I don't have anything new on my list, and not much old.

  28. Love Kathy's "drive by shooting", haha....Love the blog size, so much easier to read now. I was having to scroll back and forth to read it all. I size mine on the long side to 800, not too small, not too big. So much fun with these finches and not even having to get out of the car...love that! :)

  29. I love that with all your amazing lenses you still sing the praises of your 18-270. That and a 50 are my only two, and I just love having a range. Your fall photos are lovely. I'm going to the arboretum in search of a harvest theme for my Photo 52 group tomorrow. Your pumpkins today made me even more excited. :-)
