OK, this is ridiculous...you notice the"real feel" temp is -46. I guess that is the new "wind-chill"
terminology.
I let my kids out this morning about 6:30 AM and in less than 2 minutes they were both back in the house...Cinder limped up the sidewalk, shivering. I immediately wiped her off and cuddled her under a warm blanket and she remained in that position until just about 11:30, when she jumped down for about a minute and then decided, never mind and jumped back up into those warm covers.
Toby loves being outside and he just can't understand why I won't let him go out....he just looks at me with that forlorn look and says....please, please. Then when I do let him out, he comes hobbling back within 5 minutes. He almost didn't make it up the sidewalk the last time he went out. Poor things, they don't understand what this nasty weather is all about. It's supposed to warm up to -12 by 9:00 PM tonight. Oh my, I do hope everyone is safe and warm wherever they are. And thanks for all the concerns about my two granddaughters....Bailey did spend the night with me last night and Brie's drive back to Iowa State was safe and uneventful. Sometimes that word "uneventful" is so positive. I love it when someone says..."how was your flight" and I reply, "uneventful"...in other-words, no problems.
Ok, since you won't let me play outside, will you play with me inside???
While Cinder stays wrapped in her blanket.
Well, did ya, did ya....watch Downton Abbey last night?? Thank God Mary came out of her gloominess before the show's end, what a drag she was. And O'brien left....wow didn't see that coming. And wasn't that a sweet ending when Mr. Carson finally went to see his ole' theater pal and extended a friendly hand. And I must say, Lady Edith sure is coming into her own with her new make-up and wardrobe. That green evening dress was quite stunning. OK, sure hope I haven't spoiled it for anyone, it is pure pleasure to watch.
OK, my 50mm class begins today, our assignment is to get used to the lens, wander around our house and backyard (ha is she kidding??) and snap using different exposures, aperatures etc. OK, so the Toby pics were 50mm and here are a couple more and yes, they are all inside.
and yes, the Christmas decorations are STILL up...I know, I'm tired of them too.
And one more thing....today is the anniversary of the day that Peanuts was introduced to us by Charles Schultz back in 1952. It was the longest running comic strip with 17,897 strips in total and is considered one of the most influential and popular comic strips ever written. Love you "Peanuts"!
" If I were given the opportunity to present a gift to the next generation, it would be the ability for each individual to learn to laugh at himself." ~ Charles Schultz
And PS....just checked the weather again and it warmed up to -13...what the heck??!!
Until next time....
I took a 50mm shot of outside from inside the house. I think that covers both. Hoping to spend some more time this afternoon "practicing" since there is nothing better to do. Toby and Scout should play together, they both love it outside. Scout is very sad today, but when I let him out he didn't stay there very long. Riley is content sleeping on the couch. It was 5 degrees this morning here, with a wind chill of -11. Not sure what it is now. Just checked it is 1 and feels like -20. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun class. I love my 50/ 1.4 and think I have done quite alot of practicing already. What class are you taking/?
ReplyDeleteglad you are safe at home. and your cute babies, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say, that Toby touches my heart. Always wanting to play ball...my Dalton is the same way...I could get my shoulder out of joint and it still wouldn't be enough throwing the ball. Tobys long nose makes him so enticing♥
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your 50 mm photos. It was -27 F here this morning without the windchill. Looking forward to spring!
ReplyDeleteI love that quote because it is so true! :)
ReplyDeleteBrrrr....We're cold here, too. But, about 30 degrees warmer than you are there. You know how it is down here, though. Everyone is freaking out....lol
ReplyDeleteGlad your Grandgirls had 'uneventful' trips. Sometimes boring is good.
Stay warm.
Happy you are warming up, it is going the other direction here. One degree right now with those very negative wind chills. I know it is frosty . . . I cleared the already cleared paths to the feeders and my fingers felt like they were going to fall off. Nice warm gloves too. The birds are happy though, that counts in my book!
ReplyDeleteLove the doggies!
I often call our furbabies "the kids" here at my house, too. Only my kids are kitties. We're at the "feels like" -22 degrees right now. I am so longing for
ReplyDeletewarmer weather and flowers!! Stay warm!
It's frigid here too, but not quite -16. The wind is fierce. My little dog, Chloe, likes to be wrapped up when she comes in. I must say, she's been super fast about doing her business in the cold and snow. The cats don't know how lucky they are! I just got a new 50 mm lens but I haven't done much with it yet. Had to skip over you DA spoiler as we wait and watch it on dvd. Love that show!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more of your 50mm to inspire me with mine! Good for you--if I remember correctly, that is not your newest lens. I admire people who continue to USE what they have instead of leaving it behind!
ReplyDeleteThat is cold it's still raining here floods and the waves at the coast immense. Glad you are warm and cosy.
ReplyDeleteI can just about feel that cold wet nose!! Don't worry, you didn't ruin it for me, but I was unable to watch DA last night, so I plan on doing so either when it comes on again or on my computer whichever comes first. I had heard that O'Brien was going to be leaving this season, but not so soon. But, good riddance to that character! :-) Your 50mm shots are spectacular...that's been a lens that I have wanted for awhile, but others things have seemed to take precedence. Now, I'm drooling! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, dear - those are scary temperature readings! No wonder little Cinder refuses to leave her covers! Looks like you are keeping busy playing with your camera - love the soft crispness of these photos. I have just started watching Downton Abbey - a little late in the game, but I am hooked. Those fashions - the hairstyles - the beautiful scenery....sigh. Thinking of you in that freezing cold - stay safe and warm. xo
ReplyDeleteThese photos are wonderful, Deanna, and it sounds like a fun class.
ReplyDeleteOur cold is arriving as I type this.
We are expecting -40 degree wind chills by morning. :-(
That black nose is as cute as can be. We are warmer here . . . our temp/wind chill is +15/2 F and it is supposed to be 4 degrees tonight. I guess that means the wind chill will be about -15? Way too cold for Alabama. Temps are supposed to be normal by Thursday though. Thank goodness. We LOVE.LOVE Downton Abbey. I can't believe it has been four years since it started. Wow, how time flies. Stay warm and safe with your pups.
ReplyDeleteYes, wretched weather here, just slightly less wretched than yours. Funny how different the two dogs are about the snow, just like people. {I think the guy in class who commented on your focus of Toby didn't get what you meant to show. I can see as plain as ... well, the nose on Toby's face!}
ReplyDeleteIs your 50 mm class online? You must have wonderful light in your home, as your images are perfect!
ReplyDeleteWe'll have 6 tonight and the wind is howling! Wish I could stay in tomorrow but I'll have to go out to get my grandson to school @10 a.m. (2-hr delay). Too bad his sister who's home from college lost her car keys! A friend of my daughter's gave her Season 4 of Downton Abby...can't wait till it comes, then I'll watch it all at one or two sitting.
Mercy, y'all are getting some wicked cold. Our chihuahuas are not happy with 20 degree weather. They certainly would never survive your temps. I used to love my 50mm; I guess I quit using it when I got the big lens. These photos are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad all are safe! Toby has such a sweet face. I would be like Cinder--staying in the blanket! Compared with where you are, it's positively balmy here: 10 degrees, feels like 6 below. It's supposed to get colder as the night continues. Our furnace will be running all night, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteDeanna, I would love to trade temperatures with you for a few days, 75 degrees here in sunny California... sometimes I would just love to have a season other that spring and fall! Love your 50mm practice shots.
ReplyDeleteWe are even getting down to around 20 tonight, and you know that is cold for here....hoping there are no pipe issues and that everything will be "uneventful." :) I currently have about 19 one gallon milkweed plants, albeit they look pretty pathetic with no leaves, in my house to save them from this hard freeze. I'll be anxious to know how you liked the class, someone else had told me about the class and I had thought about signing up, until I forgot, lol! Have fun...
ReplyDeleteOh... I envy the wonderful light in your home. Here in Holland we're complaining about the lack of snow and today (14 degrees Celcius) I saw lovely orange blossom on the Prunus tree, I know it's to early.
ReplyDeletePS. My 2014 word is learn and I have to learn a lot about photography, so when I read your post about The 50mm Project I joined the group. Thank you for sharing.
I can't imagine what that temperature feels like.. Poor puppies... Stay safe and warm my friend.. It's raining here in Seattle and the highs in the 40s, lows in the 30s...
ReplyDeleteYikes that weather you guys are having. Brrrrrr....poor Toby and Cinder. I LOVE my 50mm It's pretty much attached to my big girl camera at all times. Good luck...it takes some getting used to it and hope you fall in love with it.
ReplyDeleteohhhh btw....HAPPY NEW YEAR!
ReplyDeleteBurrrrr... Loving the photos with your 50mm my friend...
ReplyDeleteHugs~
