Drinking It All In

It's Friday....when I worked this was absolutely the best day of the week.  Now as I grow older, it means that another week has flown by, another week gone from my life.  Funny how your perspective about a day of the week changes as you grow older.  I love this time of the year, but it also makes me feel a little nostalgic, knowing that another year is coming to a close and not knowing what the next year will bring. Having a husband with Alzheimer's and almost losing him this past summer, has truly awakened the reality of endings and I guess that is why I am feeling somewhat nostalgic, especially this year.  I want to drink in everything, I don't want to miss anything.  I drive down the street and see a row of trees turning red and I want to stop the car and figure out a way to get thru that industrial park to take that picture, or capture that single bright red leaf, or the apples hanging on trees, or that misty fog when it rains, or the berries....oh those berries.

or berries with a bird's nest...even sweeter!!

Or finding a lady bug on a drying Queen Anne's Lace...

or the gourds with their curly stems....you know I do belong to the Pumpkin Snob Society....

or finding a field full of black eyed susans all still in bloom...

So even tho I am feeling a bit nostalgic at this time of the year....the beauty is astounding, and I am trying to drink it all in before it too shall be gone.

If you have a moment, hop on over to my collaborative blog Focusing On Life, where I am musing on the beginnings of my photographic journey.

  1. I think this is only natural at this time in our lives but I have also realized as I have been reading lately that it isn't good to think about the future as the future will take care of it's self only live for today. That is what I have been trying to do really hard to think about, leave the future up to God that is his job not mine.

Your images are soulful of the season, love the berries with the nest and the distant fog on the road.

  4. Kudos to drinking in life's beauty! I still tend to get too caught up in my 'routine' and don't leave enough space for 'noticing'. Just keep reminding me, Deanna ... we all need to savor today.

  5. I admire your sense of wanting to drink it all in and not miss any of the beauty. You're captured some beauty with these photos--especially love the berries and nest. I tend to feel nostalgic in the fall, too--I guess it's the realization that another year is almost gone. Time goes by so fast, but if that sense of speed is needed to get us to pay attention--then I'm all for it! I need such reminders. :-)

  8. I understand your wanting to capture everything and hold it. I feel the same way... I adore that shot of the road and the fog and the power lines!

  9. I hear you Deanna, life seems to go by so quickly now. As a kid it seemed the days would often drag on and on...now, they zip by faster then I care for them too. Like you I find myself wanting to drink in everything that is around me. I just loved your shot of the foggy road and the berries with the birds nest, the sweet little lady bug and your gourds with the curly stems. You have captured fall in it's glory for however fleeting it may be it's now captured for all time to those who view your awesome photographs.

  10. I'm just the opposite of Dotti, I drink in so much of all that is around me it leaves little time for laundry, or cooking or grocery shopping. Sometimes those things are overrated don't ya think? ;)

  11. I love fall pictures. I love the colors of autumn. True, as you get older days seem to be running so fast but there is not much to drink in around me, no foggy roads or autumn leaves. Your photos are beautiful.

  13. Beautiful, Deanna! Your description about the hunger for the each and every moment and detail that is crossing your path - the realization of the moment at hand, that it is now - not tomorrow nor yesterday ... yet being at peace with the time as it is ... Accompanied with your beautiful Photos ... I just love the roads - There's lot of symbolism in that picture!

  14. I'm right there with you, Deanna. Autumn beauty goes much to quickly, as does life. Capture each and every moment . . . you seem to be doing a fine job. Have a great end of this week, and many, many more.

  15. I can relate to the need of wanting to drink in everything every minute. Last year my husband was diagnosed with cancer, and although he's doing well at the moment we don't want to miss a thing.

Now I have to confess, that even visiting your blog and your beautiful photography we don't want to miss. Yes, me and my Love read your posts together. So thank you for these little joyful moments.

  16. Your photos are lovely!
I feel the same way ... this time of the year makes you think back on all that has happened and wonder on all that will happen. With that said ... I wish Autumn would last longer ...to me it is the most beautiful time of the year!

  19. Time sure does pass too quickly. I sometimes wish I had a pause button...but then I would be pushing that sucker all the time and would never move on to the next season...and I so love new seasons! Take care Deanna!

  20. Seeing through your lens (and your heart) is always a delight for me, Deanna. I like the little leaf "spot" on the apple. Now I want to know how long it took you to choose those perfect gourds! (PS Thanks so much for the link.)

  21. The strong emotions you experience come through in your photography. So well done, as always. The curvy, hilly road is really something. Fridays no longer bring excitement since I'm not working, but that's okay with me. Every day can be an exciting one if I want it bad enough. Hope the next year is easier on you. You've had a lot on your plate this year!

  22. You are able to see the beauty and capture it wonderfully, Deanna! I am feeling a little more nostalgic this fall than most, I think because my mom passed away this spring. It does make you realize how quickly the time passes. But it sure helps to stop and photograph the beauty around us doesn't it.

  24. I am with Roxi above, what stunning photos Deanna, gorgeous. I've friends and family who have or who are travelling a similar route to your own, Alzheimer's is so mysterious with no magic and I wish that it could be treated or slowed or eradicated from our race...I've passed on your blog to those who could use a encouraging story that parallels their own...this is such a beautiful blog.

  27. I totally get what you are saying. Perspectives change when a loved one isn't in the present. xo

  28. Your look on life does indeed change when you realize just how fragile our lives are. Enjoy every moment you can and we love it when you share your beautiful pictures (and your thoughts) with us!

  30. You've written a beautiful post and decorated it with photo beauty. I especially love the ladybug and the bird's nest. We have battled my husband's cancer this year. Illness changes our perspective on life, doesn't it?! I do appreciate the little wonders of each day more now. I'm thinking more and more about retirement and while it sounds wonderful, I know how you feel time is moving by so fast. I think my goal is to see -- really see -- glory each day. For years I've been so busy I forget to look around me. Good to read your thought-provoking post. Have a weekend filled with beauty!

  32. Such a wonderful post my friend. Time does pass so quickly. Soak up what you can. I think photography is the perfect way to do that.

  33. I totally understand those nostalgic feelings! Sad in so many ways to see the short but stunning beauty of the fall. Sort of reminds me of life.... Hope that your husband is more stabilized. Gorgeous shots and I especially like that country road. So pretty. Door county was beautiful by the way. Sorry you missed that.

  34. Well, I have to say this post made me stop and think. I have not experienced anything like you have with your husbands illness, so I do not want to make comparisons. As I get older, I too find myself a bit more nostalgic...time does seem to be going by more quickly. I too stop the car because the beauty outside the window takes my breath away. I found out last month that I have Lyme's disease...probably have had it for more than a year. That explains a lot of things...a health scare makes you appreciate all the more the glimpses of our Creator that we see in the world around us... Your post made me stop and think and be grateful.
