I Do Believe Winter Is Finally Done....

So, to continue where I left off on Monday, after I forgot to change batteries, I did go back to the Arboretum later that same afternoon and even tho it was a little breezy, I was able to capture the magnolias that are in bloom right now.  They are so fleeting, as all Spring flowers seem to be.  The beauty of Spring comes and goes so quickly we really do need to "stop and smell the roses".  This time next week, I am afraid that most of these beauties will have fallen to the ground,

Many of our flowering trees and shrubs have not burst into bloom yet, in fact my quince bush that always blooms each spring with bright pink flowers seems to be in idle mode.  There are tiny buds, but even after the warmth of the weekend weather they are still just as tight as they were last week. I will be disappointed if there are no blooms this year, but I fear that may be the case.  I think Winter was so harsh on our plants that some may not burst forth this year.

Eventho we are still waiting on blossoms, many of our trees have begun to sprout new leaves...those fresh young, bright green leaves.

I even found a red berry or two still left from the winter...

I do believe Winter has finally decided it's done (I say that ofcourse with fingers crossed).

Until next time.....

  6. Beautiful captures of a beautiful spring. I love seeing the leaves uncurl and the sudden burst of colour of the blossom. We have our first new babies in the garden with a couple of chicks just hatched from one of the nests. I think spring has come to stay for a while. xx

  10. Ahhh! Such wonderful signs of spring! Like you, I hope winter is far behind us in the rear view mirror but we usually have one cold snap {not freezing} in early May before we can really breathe easy. I think it's Blueberry Winter. Hoping your blooms bloom for you. I think our dogwood were stunted by the late freeze last week. But tulips have been beautiful. However, we always want it all, don't we?

  11. It's still pretty chilly here, but the flowers in bloom do not seem to mind!
Just hoping that the snow stays away now! :-)
Hope you're having a great week, Deanna.

  13. So delicate and pretty. I love the magnolia blossoms - they are such a lovely color. We have to enjoy each fleeting day of this beautiful time of year. I hope your Quince recovers. They have the most beautiful flowers - a favorite of mine. Hugs xo Karen

  14. you will be sorry to see spring disappear so quickly, it's a part of the ebb and flow of nature I guess. Sometimes it stays about longer. The magnolias are beautiful Deanna; you must've had so much fun with your camera, and especially after the false start earlier in the day. http://snaphappyonline.blogspot.com/

  16. Your photos are so gorgeous Deanna! Every time I look at your photos I think there must be something wrong with my camera that I am not getting such sharply focused photos (or is it my eyesight going bad?). My magnolia got snowed on right as it was coming into bloom so most of the blossoms turned brown and look ugly--so glad to see your beautiful photos of the magnolias! If that is a quince below the magnolia photos then I need to find one! How gorgeous are they!?! I so love spring and all the colors and flowers--wish it would last a little longer than usual this year!

  19. So glad, Deanna, that you finally have Magnolias to photograph! Hopefully, the nice weather will hold. I'm in AZ, so I'm soaking up the warmth. PS, you're not a bird brain!

  21. Surely this must be the end of old man winter for you...and as I say that, I'm sad to say that my spring was very fleeting. The humidity is creeping in and we are supposed to be at 90 by next week, sigh. I was surely hoping the garden places would have had their flowers on sale by now so I didn't have to plant in the horrid heat. I do still have all that wonderful green color on my bushes though, one of my favorite things about spring. And just think of the great photos you will get when all those lovely magnolia petals hit the ground!

  23. We had an early Spring this year and the Magnolias are all gone. Now I feel so lucky to get a fresh glimpse of those beautiful flowers through your lens, thanks for sharing!

  24. Spring and Fall are too short in my opinion (or so it seems). This year's Spring blossoms seem to have come and gone in haste, or maybe I need to slow down and take it all in a little slower. Enjoy your weekend.

  25. Spring Color Pops here and there help me believe Spring is here and winter is closing its doors.
You cinched it for me with your wonderful photos.
    So happy I met you.
Happy I am back to visit you!

  26. So glad Winter is retiring from your part of the world and Spring has come. The Japanese Magnolias are just wonderful, only wish they would last longer as they are just so beautiful. My neighbors across the street from me are from your town and they are sure glad they missed the winter this year. They will be leaving to spend the summer back in your town and hoping it won't be a terrible hot one.

  27. Thank you for going back to the Arboretum so you could capture all this beauty to share with us! Those magnolias are so beautiful! I hope winter is finally over for you and that you have a beautiful summer to make up for it!

  28. So many pretty shots here. The 3rd photo down is my favorite. I also liked the shots of the tree leaves. So many times people photograph spring flowers but forget about spring leaves, I'm glad you didn't. Loved that you found a berry too!

  30. In the part of Colorado that we are in right now the trees are just now starting to bud. I am pretty sure they had a harsh winter here as well.. I do hope your spring decides to hang around for awhile for you. Amazing photos my friend.

    Hugs~
