Been Busy....
So, I have been working my little (who am I trying to kid) ass off in the garden these past few days. Between having a new fence put in late last summer and the gosh awful winter, the garden was looking a little poorly. I had to cut bushes way back from where the fence install people stepped all over them, I really thought I was going to have to replace them all, but I just decided to give them a good haircut and hope for the best. There is a lot of new growth so I am waiting to see if Mother Nature will give them a second chance. Plus it's darn expensive to have 4 bushes cut down and then replaced. I raked out all the winter crap, turned up the soil, had it looking pretty darn good and feeling a sense of accomplishment. I even went out and bought a couple of pots to brighten it up and then.....we had a storm.
The skies blackened, the wind blew, the rains came down in sheets, then an added bonus, hail. I was afraid at one time that it was going to break the windows. The ground was covered with white balls the size of goose eggs. What is it with this white stuff falling from the skies...first its snow all winter, now it's hail. Ah come on...really!!?? A walk around the yard revealed lots of sticks and fallen leaves, my nicely edged and turned soil in my garden was now a blob and my large hostas had big holes, obviously from the hail. So there is not much to do until things dry up a little, I checked my rain gauge but as I pulled it from the ground, I noticed it had a hole in the bottom, so no telling how much rain fell. I did manage to get some weed and feed on the lawn this AM, directions state to apply when grass is wet...no problem there.
But during all the rain, wind and hail I was watching the finale of "Dancing With the Stars"....can I just say I was ecstatic that Meryl and Max won that gawdy Miraball Trophy. What an amazing dancer she is and how she managed to turn Max into a crying pussycat who was truly smitten was a site to behold. Amy and Derek were truly an inspiration to those who have faced such adversity and to show the world that obstacles can be overcome....and PS I thought Candace should have gone home much earlier, just sayin.
Hope your days are storm free and filled with the beauty of springtime....

Until next time.....

Ah, yes nothing like putting lots of work into the garden only to have THAT happen. Hope all bounces back. Lovely captures!
ReplyDeleteThe weather is crazy everywhere this Spring, hope Summer will be better...
ReplyDeleteSorry about all that work you did only to have Mother Nature put the big damper on it! I'm sure your flowers will be wonderful in a week or so. Have a fantastic holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis weather is nuts! We're going to be in the high 40s on Friday!
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks lovely!!
I can usually count on lovely photos when your names comes up on iPad. I wasn't disappointed today either!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting out in our screened in porch and my thoughts were turned to DWTS of last night. I thought I should do a post on "Being Smitten . . ." I thought some people not use that word anymore . . . but Max sure seemed SMITTEN with his dancing genius this season. Lo and behold, I opened your post, enjoyed the photos, and couldn't believe my eyes as I scrolled down to read your thoughts . . . so similar to mine and just minutes apart. I think she might be a bit smitten too . . . Weren't they perfectly magical to watch . . .
enjoyed your post Deanna; had missed you. Always enjoy your beautiful photos too. With you on the gardening maintenance -- I've just covered all back gardens with sugar-cane mulch after some renovating sections, removing advanced crepe-myrtles/shame but there was risk their roots would open up retainer walls one day. We have to keep our fingers on the pulse Deanna! Cheers (am off for a week inland Qld, so hope to come back with some new photography moments)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photographs, Deanna!
ReplyDeleteWe lost an awful lot of trees/plants due to the tough winter.
I am quite sure that at least 7 rose bushes are history, but like you I want to be absolutely sure before I give up on them.
Wishing you a wonderful evening.
I still watch WGN sometimes, even here in Wisconsin. Your weather looks rough! I too need to cut back bushes...so many took a beating this winter.
ReplyDeleteIt's so frustrating to do all that hard work then have a storm come along and undo it all! Luckily most things bounce back rather quickly. Hope things dry up soon. Beautifully photos!
ReplyDeleteHard to have your work messed up by a storm, I sure have had that happen with our wind here, your poor little geranium looks a little beaten up but I like how the very center is now visible. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHI Deanna It won't take long to you garden bounces back. These shots are stunning.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more of Meryl and Max winning. What chemistry the two of them had....13 years he has had to wait...poor guy! Weather is so unpredictable....sometimes makes our gardening life rough doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteWow - that sounds like quite a hail storm! I don't normally watch DWTS, but my mom is such a huge fan of Meryl that she's been having me watch all the dances on YouTube. I have to say - she is fun to watch! Your flowers are beautiful - I'm sure they'll bounce back and summer is on it's way (I hope?)
ReplyDeleteThe Weather has been so darn crazy.. We have been getting some rain. But no hail.. Thanks goodness. But I have to admit I am just happy not to be in the desert.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Oh so sorry to hear about the hail. No fun and it's sad when it damages your flowers. Hopefully everything will come back and thrive for you.
ReplyDeleteAlso I agree with everything you said about DWTS. I'm so hoping there is an actual romance with Max and Meryl. They looked smitten with each other if you ask me.
The pictures just blew me away. The flowers look absolutely beautiful. Anyway, gardening does take a toll from all this spring hail. I do hope that that's the final guest appearance of those two-inch ice balls in your locale. Haha! Good luck with the gardening!
