Partings, Filters and Corn...Huh??

Oh it's Tuesday and it's 10:15 AM and I have been up since 7:00 AM.  Have I accomplished anything in the 3 hours I have been up....now you know the answer to that...NO.  Every night when I go to bed, I think, "oh I am going to get up early and really start on cleaning out that closet, or go through all the papers in the office, or take the dog for a long early morning walk." ...oh I am such a loser.  I never do any of that.  I guess I get an A for at least thinking about it, but a definite F for no follow through.  You know living alone has it's advantages, but it also has it's downfalls.  There is no one here to get on my tail for not getting things done.  Now my sweetie was ever so patient with me and very rarely said anything about my housekeeping skills???, but ever once in awhile, when things begin to pile up, he would kinda lose his cool and let me know that the piles were beginning to bug him.  That would get me into action and everything would be back on track again.  I guess I need someone to lose their cool with me to kick me into action again.  Out of town company is always a motivator....anyone want to come visit?  Believe me, I love a nice clean, no pile home, but sometimes it's just not.

Anywho...today is Texture Tuesday over at Kim Klassen's and she, in her continuing generosity, presented us with a new texture last week entitled "partings" and asked us to please use this in our entries this week.  So here is "partings".  Sunday I snapped this hawk circling a field high above, scouting for critters in the farmfields.

While out in the country I always like to stop by this barn for an image or two.  I call this my go-to barn and I manage to take pictures of this in every season.  The sky was incredibly blue on Sunday, but using a polarizing filter on my lens really, really helps in bringing out the blue in the sky.  I know that plenty of you must read Kevin and Amanda's blog, she always has great trip images, good food photography, free fonts on occasion and wonderful hints and tips.  Today she talks about filters and how they can enhance the colors in your landscape photography.  Hop on over and give it a read.  And as you can see in the deep blue of the sky, polarizers definitely work to bring out the deepest blues and lush colors.

I am going to have to stop talking about the corn crops pretty soon.  But below is the sadness that happened this year due to the terrible drought.  OK, I am done, no more corn shots.

OK, that is definitely enough ramblings for one day.  Please do join Kim and enjoy all the many entries using her "partings" texture.

  1. I hear you about the piles of stuff . . . they appear so gradually we hardly notice them (at first). Love your barn shot! when you mentioned polarizing filter I realized why my mantle shots were so darn dark! I forgot to take mine off - argh!

  2. I am with you, Deanna, about having no motivation when you live alone. I do the same darn thing every night making a to-do list and by morning, I just start me another list... one is as good as the other.

  3. Welcome to my house . . . you will feel right at home with my piles. I used to be a much better house keeper until I started blogging and having a love affair with my camera in nature. I love that Mark Twain quote, it's a good one . . . beautiful gorgeous blue skies, and well even though the corn is sad looking, they are great shots! xo

  5. Oh, how well I know those good intentions, especially where housecleaning is concerned. My house manages to stay neat because hubby and I don't like clutter, but the bathroom and floors could use a good scrubbing, and have for weeks now. The only time these chores get done is when company comes over.

Those circular polarizers are awesome and I have them for every lens I own. Recently though, I removed it from the 100-400mm lens because it does inhibit light somewhat, and if I'm trying to focus on a bird way up in a tree, it actually hinders the performance. Other than that, they're great!

  7. Love the photos and the quote. I tend to let things slide lately also... I think because I would rather be doing other things beside keep a sparkling house...the kitchen never seems to be totally clean ;) and the laundry...ah well...there are piles...but I am creating more than I ever have and this is pleasing to me....so be kind to yourself...being organized and on top of everything isn't all it is cracked up to be...in fact it can crack you up ;)

  10. Honestly I don't know how it happens, but I can clean up a spot and within a month it is like all the stuff crawled out of the woodwork to clutter it up again. I have fantasies of a Container Store organized home, but then I wake up and have a cup of coffee, read blogs, work on pictures, more laundry......

    Enjoyed your pictures.

  12. I'm going to enjoy having a cluttered week...no picking up, no cooking, no laundry. I keep things pretty tidy, but I'm not so sure I'd be that way if I live alone. Nope...don't think so. :) Love the quote and the textured blue.

  13. My craft room is the worst for those piles. It is amazing how fast they appear. But at least I can just close the door. My hubby doesn't go in there to often. Your photos look wonderful. I love that blue, blue sky. I am going to have to get me one of the polarized lens covers.

    Hugs~

  16. This is BEautimous!! I love the quote and the sky is, well, amazing in its blueness!!

As for the other, I think we each come to a place where we find out where we are comfortable living and BEing on the "stuff" and "piles" and "organisation-clutter" spectrum. I've found that when I am CHOOSING HOW I want to live and BE [and I too live alone at present, in a 300-square foot cottage with my Golden Retriever, Gracie Mae] I'm able to see what some might call "piles or clutter" is what works for me.

My biggest issue is my art, that which is NOT digital. I'm healed and healing by making it but there simply is NOT enough room here for it all. So I have decided to give it to people. I figure that is what I love DOing most, gifting it, and selling it has about as much appeal as eating glass!!! I have a friend who is helping me set some of it up on eBay and my intention is to take what I get for it and give it to people who are living with cancer. I wrestled and fretted myself for most of 2011 thinking I could make my art make up the financial difference BEtween disability and the cost of living my very simple Life. It was wrongheaded on steroids!!!

So, Now I have a plan and I have BEgun asking people who have SEEN much of it online, BEcause, BElieve me, there's NOT much room leftover when Gracie and I are both here in the Wee Cottage, and it's so much fun to ask and then give...

MayBE that's all I needed, a plan to spread JOY.

    DeLIGHTed to meet you, Deanna!!
