Getting in the Holiday Spirit

The last day of November...it's sunny and the temps are rising to 50 degrees today with a warm front heading our way.  Well, so much for snow to get me in that Holiday spirit.  I am seeing snow on Pinterest and blogs and I am having a little snow envy right now.  Last year we only had one really good snow and that is just not enough for this gal to take all those delightful snow pictures that I envision.  So come on snow, I want you, I need you, I love you.  Hmm, did you know that was Elvis Presley's 2nd single #1 hit back in 1956?  Just a little trivia....

Haven't started my holiday decorating yet, but I think today I may begin bringing the bins up from the basement.  I am still deciding on a Christmas tree...I am leaning toward buying a new one, small, lighted and then permanently attaching all the ornaments and at the end of the season, throwing a sheet over it and storing it totally decorated.  Dragging that tree up from the basement, and putting it together and then decorating it is one overwhelming job for me.  When I was younger and had help I decorated 3 trees.  One in the living room, one in the family room, and one in the guest bedroom, again I said, when I was younger.  How about you?  Do you decorate multiple trees or are you struggling like me, with one?

Altho we have no snow and I haven't begun to decorate, I am getting into that Christmas spirit by grabbing a few props and taking a few holiday-like pictures and listening to Christmas music.

A new little ornament....

And last night I enjoyed a beautiful dinner and wonderful Christmas program at a friend's church.  The tables were set beautifully, the dinner was delicious and the program was wonderfully inspiring.

I hope your holidays are bringing you great joy!!

Until next time.....

  1. We always get the tree down and the decorations out the first weekend after Thanksgiving. I put the tree up and decorated it alone this year. Hubby helped me put the decorations outside. We didn't overdo them this year because we are getting older and don't want to mess with as much as we used to. I watched a Christmas movie called Holiday Engagement on Netflix streaming night before last and it was pretty good. It had Shelly Long playing the mother of the family, and I was really glad to see her since I had been wondering what happened to her. I cried at the end of the movie, so I guess that meant it was a pretty good one. :) Hope your holidays are tip top! (like the Angel on top of your tree!)

  3. This post puts you in the Holiday mood, I was so happy that I finished my shopping today and now I can relax. As I get older I have a hard time relaxing until all my ducks are in order. I only have one tree and it is itty bitty, already lit, I have had enough of a large tree. Good luck on the snow, you can have it, I would rather travel to it and then leave it behind.

  4. Oh, I have boxes in my living room just waiting to be made into a mess, I mean beautiful creation! haha I was inspired before Thanksgiving, now I'm just tired! ;) ...but I do think I just need to get on with it, and I will get in the mood. I use to do 4 trees, one family room, one living room, and one in both the kids rooms (but just small ones), now I'm lucky to get one up. Love the candy cane shot!

  5. I only do one tree. Don't have room for more and I'm struggling this year anyway. I brought the tree up before Thanksgiving and just today finished decorating it. I am cutting back on the decorating this year a little. Probably will cut back a little each year from now on.
    I like your new ornament!

  7. No tree Deanna but I did buy 2 new wreaths. I don't decorate much anymore. We're between 2 houses (until we get some snow so we can ski). I'll put out some Santas and call it good.

  10. Your photos would certainly get anyone in the mood for decorating I would bet. I don't do multiple trees, but I put my all in the one tree I have. This year I purchased a new one, taller, but slimmer so it takes up less space. I love it. I actually did contemplate throwing a sheet over it and placing it in our boat port (garage) for storage after the holidays. We'll see if I go through with it. :) Good luck with your decorating!

  11. i'm still looking for holiday inspiration. i guess because we aren't having anyone here for the holidays, it's not very high on my list of things to do for December. but, candles & a nicely smelling wreath is satisfying the decorating bug right now.

  12. These are gorgeous shots - absolutely love the candycanes. I still put up multiple trees - some being the small variety. We went with the idea of putting together a tree and storing it for my mom in her later years - pain to move and breakable ornaments still had to be removed - lights lasted maybe 2 years, then had to be added to. I moan about putting up and decorating the 'big' tree - but it is such a joy to hold ornaments from my childhood as well as those from when my kids were babes. Slow and steady is my new approach - perhaps it might be a technique for you to help with the work.

  13. I finally decided it would be the small table top tree this year and then scatter colored lights through out the house. So much for those five to six Christmas bins in the attic...they will just have to stay put.

  15. I only do one tree, these days. I used to do several.
But, we have TONS of decorations to put out. It takes me days.
This could just be the last year for all of them to go out. I'm a 'collector'....that can get out of hand.

    Great photos, as usual.

  16. I am SO ready for snow!! We've had two mini-storms (an inch or so) and I am so ready for a big one. I am hoping it comes during Chanukah! Good luck with you decorating!

  17. Again, my friend, you've succeeded in giving me that good swift kick in the seat of the pants that I need. Your photos make me want to get my Christmas stuff up and out as well. I did begin about three days ago to bring them up and after getting about a dozen piled in the living room, real life intervened. (That and FOL!) I actually welcome the warm weather that's forecast for the weekend because that means the mister will get the exterior lights up. As for a tree ... I simply could not do ours without help. But I've only ever done one.

Like Kim, I adore the candy canes and jar!

  18. I only have the one tree. But it is a very tall tree.. I have to use a ladder to get to the top so I can decorate. Which that is all the decorating I have done.. I still need to get the rest of the house done. Maybe tomorrow. we will see. I love your photos my friend..

    Hugs~

  19. I only decorate one tree, but when my kids were younger at home, I had their help. We'd listen to Christmas music, have hot cocoa and spend an afternoon making it look just right. These days my husband brings it all out of storage and I do it alone. Not at much fun...

  20. Your photos just keep getting better and better. Love the simplicity of them, really like the cup. What is the make and pattern?
