Trust -

Trust - the dictionary defines this as a reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc, of a person or thing; confidence.

In our Bible study today it was stated in our book that "you cannot trust God unless you are close to him."  I don't quite agree with that statement...there are many people I trust that I am not "close" to....my Doctor (oh I have been going to her for probably 25 years, but I don't feel particularly close to her, a Police Officer (gosh if you can't trust a police officer, who can you trust?), the Surgeon that performed surgery on me to remove the lump found in my breast, (barely knew the man, only he was rather good-looking).  Honestly, I trust most people.  Altho I will admit I don't trust telephone solicitors or some politicians.  But I am not going to get into a discussion on politics...just some have proven not to be too trustworthy ie: John Edwards. If you google it you will find there are at least 14 who have cheated on their wives, and that doesn't count those that didn't get caught.  So, yes, you might say I have a little problem trusting politicians.

My husband, as sweet and kind as he was, was not a trusting person.  He really had to get to know a person before he "trusted" them.  So he would probably have agreed with that statement.  We would have many a discussion about trust.  After placing a picket fence around our front yard, I did it for the aesthetics, he did it because he honestly felt someone would steal our dog from the front yard if he was just chained, he then proceeded to put a lock on the front gate.  Oh brother, did we have "discussions" about that.

How about you....?  Are you a trusting person, or do you need to really get to know someone before you trust them?

The one thing I definitely trust is that our Fall season has almost come to a close with little color left to enjoy, but I trust all will return again next year.  After Bible Study and after Book Club I took a quick drive through the Arboretum.  It was dark & cloudy, very few cars or people were there.  As I drove through the east side, my radio was tuned to lovely music and eventho the sun was not shining and it grew darker and darker (darn that daylight savings time) I so enjoyed that quiet time. Me and the music and God's beauty in nature.

It was becoming quite dark by the time I drove around the east side..hopefully the sun will shine again in the next day or so and I can return and enjoy the west side in more light.

"We are never so vulnerable than when we trust someone - but paradoxically, if we cannot trust, neither can we find love and joy."  ~  Walter Anderson

Until next time....

  1. Beautiful pictures today dear friend. Just one small correction to your commentary....the surgeon was beyond "rather good looking." ;-)

  4. Those pictures are so beautiful. We don't get the color like that around here.

As for trusting... I really try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but experience has taught me that trust in people has to be earned.

  7. Interesting reflections! My husband and I are much the same as you and your husband. He is slow to trust, and I look for a reason to trust rather than a reason not to. I think if you look for the good, people know that and want you to find it, so that is what they offer, most often. I so agree with your ending quote.

You have more leaves left than we do--fun to walk through the woods, though, where no one rakes them up! Beautiful!

  8. Magnificent photos Deanna. I especially like the first. Trust, I like to trust folks but usually takes a little while to grow that trust, even if only a few minutes.

  10. Really beautiful photos today. It takes me awhile to trust people although I have trusted my surgeons without knowing them.

  11. Trust, hmmm, I think I trust pretty easily, I know that my trip to Oasis was a huge leap of trust! but one things for sure, once that trust has been broken it never gets repaired! And I don't trust politicians either!
Oh, how I love your pictures! Next time we meet, I'm gonna stay glued to your side and pick your brain!

  14. Thanks for the drive through the arboretum! I just bought a new car and the whole time I was negotiating all I thought was how they were playing a game with me...and I'm sure they won!

  15. Undeniably God's beauty in nature, that's for sure, & you capture it so beautifully!
I'm not a very trusting person... it's scary for me to trust =0

  16. Oh, oh, I'm so missing the colors of fall when I see them like this - captured so beautifully!! I would say that yes, I am a trusting person. I think it's better to give that trust to people and only take it away when they prove that can't be, rather than to make them earn it...or we miss too much! xo

  17. Hi Deanna! Came across your blog from a This or That Thursday link, so nice to "see" you here on this lovely blog of yours! We don't get such fall colors here in CA so thanks for this glimpse into your beautiful world this morning. All the best to you.

  18. Gorgeous shots of the landscapes in your area. I so wish we had that kind of color here, then maybe I could for once get a good landscape shot. :) I don't trust very quickly; it takes time for me. But I have learned to be less suspicious and judgmental of those that I don't know until they give me a reason to believe otherwise. I am learning to trust God more, though.

  19. Wow! Beautiful shots. As you know we've got nothing like that around here. On the upside, there are no leaves to rake.
