Thursday Things

Busy day...went to my Dr.'s for a follow-up.  Unfortunately found out that I have significant bone loss that showed up via a bone density scan.  Oh brother, this getting old is definitely a challenge.  But the good news is my blood pressure was great and my mammogram was normal...two to one, I guess not bad odds.  But now, a new medication...yurk!!  Are any of you out there in our wonderful blogland on any kind of meds for bone loss?  If you are, please share your experience with them.  I want to know the good, the bad & the ugly.

Then on to take Toby to his Dr....he was way behind on his shots, so after being poked numerous times and what a good boy he was, we took a walk around the Vet's office.  They are located in a neighborhood, with a large yard behind the building and lo and behold what did I spy....sunflowers growing so stately and tall.

Some almost spent....

Others still tight in their bud...

The Vet receptionist suggested that I walk a block down the street to a beautiful forest preserve, ofcourse Toby and I were interested in a forest preserve, no telling what delights we could find there.

Beautiful bridges...

Acorns gathering...

Interesting wild flowers in all colors...

The weather has cooled off significantly from the past few days so the walk was really pleasant.  If the temps would have been in the 90's like it has been these last few days, I fear I would have missed all this beautiful wild-life.

Still working on a couple of recent photo shoots....sharing a couple of photos.

  2. Your macros are extra-special as are the portraits. You have a knack for showing personality in your photos. Research Bisphosphonates carefully and review all side effects so you can ask your DR questions. Some have actually been implicated in bone breakage because they "strengthen" bones to the extent that they are too brittle and can't withstand any stress on them. Do you have a family history of osteoporosis? All of us at a certain age will show bone loss - whether Bisphosphonates are the answer is debatable.

  3. What a great area for a vet with the preserve! Love your little wildflowers that you found. At first, I thought the first shot was of polk berries, but the tiny flowers are much better than that!

  7. You are so talented! I enjoy all of your photos, but those close-ups are stunning.

I'm sorry about the bone loss. I hope the new med will help. I haven't had a bone density test. My mother has osteopenia. I don't know if that makes me more susceptible or not.

  9. Glorious area that you and Toby were blessed with after your dr visits! The sunflowers alone were the perfect reward...and beautifully photographed, I might add. What lens are you using for the portraits? Stunning shots. The parents are going to be blown away.

  12. Oh, I love those kiddie portraits! Just marvelous, Deanna. As for the bone-loss thing, I tried a couple when they discovered osteopenia but I couldn't take them so I wish you better luck than I had. That reminds me ... I should go down and take come calcium.

  15. Beautiful photos--I'm inspired to get out my fall decorations! I'm pretty sure I have some acorns and buckeyes and want to try some photos of those--I love your acorn photo! As always your photos are so gorgeous! Don't have any info on meds for bone loss but I will ask my sister--she is having issues with it but I forget what she is taking for it. Will email you when I find out more! Take care. Hugs!

  16. So many wonderful photos my friend. I have no idea on meds for Bone loss. I do see a lot of commercials for them. Seems like some of them you only take once a month. That wouldn't be to bad.

    Hugs~

  18. Great shots Deanna, and sorry about your osteoporosis, but the med is no big deal. Just take it in the way the directions say and you shouldn't have any problem. There is an alternative annual shot, or a every 6 month one as alternative. Love that sunflower.

  19. Beautiful collection of photos Deanna, the bridge and the acorns grab my attention, so different to my world. Hope your health remains good. Maybe you can work on weight building exercises with/instead of meds?
