An Added Dose of Self Pity

I feel like I have risen from the dead...well, not quite.  I think there was only one that ever did that. But after feeling a little crappy last week pouring on the Vitamin C and Ibuprofen and liquids and feeling pretty darn confident that I would be making the trip to Indianapolis for The Women of Faith Conference, my feeling crappy turned into major sick.  Coughing, sneezing, eyes watering, nose running, sore throat achy feeling has been my norm since last Wednesday.  And it's not pretty.
Needless to say I did not make the trip to Indy, #1 couldn't imagine driving for 3 1/2 hours #2 the ladies driving with me would definitely not want me as a traveling companion...so no "Women of Faith" for me this year.  However I did catch up on the Stephen King's "Under the Dome" series that I had taped...hmm, not exactly the same, one gives your soul some spiritual uplifting, the other, well the other did nothing but give me a little entertainment while lying in bed.  I have also been trying to read, but reading after awhile becomes tedious to my eyes, did you ever have that feeling that there are little specks of sand in your eyes that just won't go away?  So reading has not been my first choice for passing the time.  Annoying!!

Today is the first day I have not been sneezing, nose running and eyes watering continually, altho still coughing, but feeling like the rise back to health may be coming, albeit slower than I had hoped for. Today is my sweetie's birthday, and unfortunately I don't think I better visit, wouldn't want to bring this awful cold/flu to the residents.  Maybe tomorrow or the next day.

I have mentioned in previous posts that living alone is sometimes a good thing, but being sick and living alone is definitely not a good thing. There is no-one to bring you a tray with a bowl of chicken-noodle soup when you are feeling hungry, no one to check on you to see if there is anything you need, no one to go to the store to pick up more kleenex or cough medicine.

I think I am going to quit complaining now...who likes to read about other's complaints.  We all have our burdens to carry, some carry them with dignity and grace, while others moan and groan. I have found myself in the moan and groan category this last week with little dignity and absolutely no grace with an added dose of self-pity along the way.

"Be careful about reading health books.  You may die of a misprint."  ~Mark Twain

Until next time...

  1. Oh, I'm so sorry you missed your conference - but am happy that you see to be on the mend. I did have a little giggle over the thought that you're about the only person who could make a really great photo of cough drops! (But just a small giggle, because I'm a little sad that you didn't get soup served to you in bed). I hope you're feeling like yourself again soon!

  3. Oh, Sweetie! When I saw that picture unfold, I knew the news wasn't good. I'm so, so sorry you've been unwell. Colds ... summer or winter ... are the pits. Rest is the best thing, lots of fluids. It sounds like you might be over the worst and I'm sending strong thoughts to you so you can buck this thing and get back to normal. {Whatever that is!}

    Big hug {cyber hugs don't spread germs!}

  9. Oh since you haven't been on I thought you were probably gone to Indie, so sorry you are still sick. I sent you a text this morning, if you look at it I am sure you will feel better! :) Get well soon my friend.

  10. Oh, that is a great quote, but I am so sorry for the circumstance. Having a cold is the most miserable thing, especially with all the tissues and you don't feel well enough to clean anything and there you are.....feeling even worse. If I lived closer I would stop over with that chicken soup for sure! Snuggle in and drink your tea and you will feel better in no time. Happy Birthday to your Mr. I know it is difficult. :( Big Hug xoxo

  15. You don't need to apologize as we all understand and we all moan and groan sometimes...I am just sorry that it has lasted this long and that you missed your trip. I am glad you are beginning to feel better and I hope this coming week all of the "yuk" is gone and you can get out and enjoy some nice weather.....

    I am sorry that I am not closer so I could have taken you some noodle soup....

  16. Don't you have anyone living close to you (like family) that would be willing to bring you something to eat or get your necessities? Oh, goodness....wish I was close to you....I'd go run your errands for you!

    My mom has finally started feeling like herself again....just take care of yourself.

  25. Oh I am sorry to hear that you got worse and had to miss the conference. Yes, being home alone and sick is not fun. It does look like you were well prepared though with all your cough drops, tissues, etc...Sending you some hugs and prayers that you will be back to 100% very soon.

  26. I'm not sure how I'm managed to miss so many of your recent posts - I could have sworn I had visited (and to think, I didn't even have to break into the NyQuil to reach this level of delirium). I hope you are feeling better soon. By the say - have I mentioned that I LOVE your screened porch? Oh my!

  28. Hope you are better from this awful cold, and that someone ( a daughter perhaps) did deliver you some chicken soup. Otherwise, you should keep some ziplock bags with frozen soup in your fridge for emergencies like this!
