It's Summertime

Happy Sunday everyone....isn't this a gorgeous view of the city of Chicago taken from the Lincoln Park Zoo.  Today is Chicago's Birthday.  On August 4, 1830, the city of Chicago was laid out, which at the time had a population of less than 100. On August 12, 1833, the Town of Chicago was incorporated with a population of 350. By 1840 the boomtown had a population of over 4,000. Population now? Just over 2.7 million! Happy birthday, Chicago!

And joining this 2.7 million people this week will be 6 of us from my collaborative blog, Focusing On Life.  We have been planning this get-together for months, hoping that all 10 of us could gather, but you know that many times life, schedules, families, money and jobs interferes with the best laid plans. But I am thrilled that 6 of us will be enjoying time together this week and I am going to love showing off Chicago.  And how can this group come to my corner of the universe without enjoying our beautiful countryside with all of our great midwestern barns.  Tuesday evening the first one arrives, followed by the rest on Thursday afternoon....so look out Chicagoland, here we come.

I will be taking a break this week and probably through the month of August from my normal almost daily blogging.  Too much to do...so I am taking that much needed August Break like many of you.  I may pop in and out with a short piece now and again.

I hope you all are grabbing these last bits of summer before we leap into Fall and all of its beauty.   I am planning on savoring these last days and drink in all that summer goodness before it becomes nothing but a memory.

"it's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine....it's summertime."  ~  Kenny Chesney

Until next time....

  4. Yes ... the excitement is building! Mr. Peepaw commented that he wasn't sure Chicago was ready for us. {BTW, there are 11 of us now ... but who's counting?}

  5. On one of the sites I used to visit religiously they would have "get-togethers" with members meeting up and doing collaborative photo shoots. I was never in a position to foot a plane/hotel/food ticket, so I lived vicariously through their posts and pictures afterwards. I look forward to seeing what you and the ladies from Focusing On Life come up with. Happy Birthday to Chicago - I knew there was a reason I love the city/band - shared B/D. :)

    Enjoy your time away friend.
