Texture Tuesday, The January 21, 2014 Edition

My granddaughter gave me a 2014 desk calendar and on each day of the year there is a quote or a thought for women.  I found this one to be particularly insightful for myself....

Habits are like ruts:
The more we practice them, the deeper they get.
The deeper they get, the harder they are to crawl out of.
The harder they are to crawl out of, the less freedom we have to make choices.
The less freedom we have to make choices, the more difficult and unpleasant our lives become.
Beware of forming ruts.

I have ruts that need smoothing.

Went to the movies today with my gal pals to see "Her" with Joaquin Phoenix, his performance alone is a reason to see this movie.  I know many of the ladies did not care for the movie, but I personally thought it was truly thought-provoking that the human race would come to the point of having a highly advanced computer program (the I-Phone of the future) designed to be so human-like that you actually fell in love with nothing but a voice.

Linking to Kim's Texture Tuesday today with images of the last of the ranunculus, using two of her textures, kk_Isobel on the first image, and kk_daisy on the 2nd...and with my trusty 50mm.

Until next time....

  3. Great photos.
I like the quote. Funny how GOOD habits don't make such deep ruts. Too easy to climb out of.
    Stay warm....

  5. Love the pink blooms...one on the right reminds me of a dancer's skirt!
Like those other women, I cannot bring myself to see that movie. I did see Lone Survivor this weekend. Gory but excellent. My goodness, what those service people do for their country!

  10. ....glad you enjoyed the movie Deanna, and you reminded me when you wrote about the ranunculus, and I think I'd written the other day admiring your 'anemone'. Later that day, for some reason, it occurred to me I'd gotten the two mixed up - I often have, one has the black centre right? Very pretty textures, lovely post

  11. Your photos are so soft and pretty! I have ruts too. Is there a quote on how to smooth those ruts out?

  14. Oh, that pink is salve for a winter-weary soul! And ruts ... oh, my ... how deep does that get? Good to think about, though.

  15. Tell me someone who hasn't found themselves digging out of a rut when all they wanted was familiar comfort. Your images are lovely and your quote a good reminder.

  16. Oh so lovely flowers and so beautifully edited. The movie sounds rather "odd" and probably not my thing but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know about "ruts" too.

  17. Both photos are gorgeous, but I liked the larger view presented in the second one. The fallen leaves provided additional perspective.

If the excerpt you included here is any indication of the content of the calendar your granddaughter gave you, I suspect it will provide food for thought through much of the year...and probably more than a few nuggets for Texture Tuesday posts.
