Putting It All In Perspective.....

So have you wondered where in the heck I've been???....well, maybe not, but I know a couple of you might just wonder why I haven't posted since Sunday.  Say slowly.....computer crash.   She stopped working on Monday afternoon, took her into the Geek Squad on Tuesday morning with high hopes that she could be revived again....but alas, she had drawn her last breath and could no longer be my constant kitchen countertop companion.  The word was "motherboard"....now you would think that a motherboard could withstand just about anything, we mother's do, but apparently a motherboard is another animal, doesn't last forever.  Soooo....off to computer shopping land, bought one, got a good deal, paid the Geek Squad a bunch of money to transfer all my stuff from my old to my new and I am back in business.  Well, almost, I still have to re-load all of my programs, photoshop, word, excel etc....!!!  But my kitchen countertop companion is back, albeit new and with Windows 8...a slight learning curve, but really not bad.

Today is a  REALLY busy day...painter arrived at 7:45 AM to strip the wallpaper and re-paint the office (and speaking of office....you never realize how much an office can accumulate in a 22 year span of time, uncovering pictures, old letters, mementos, and piles of papers that are useless now, who needs 1996 tax forms??....some that made me laugh, others that made me cry) and the fence people came to install a new fence....which has now become a major issue. The gentleman that gave me the quote on the fence and scheduled the date failed to tell me about clearing the fence line at least by 2 feet.  Not going to happen....yard is full of perennials, bushes, plants and I have been talking to the installers ever since they arrived at 8:00 AM this morning which is fairly challenging since only one speaks English.   IF I would have known about this 2 foot line issue I would have definitely waited until FALL to do the new install....everything is ready to die back by FALL.  But instead they cut down the old fence, so I am really in a pickle, nothing left but the fence posts.  I am trying to take deep breaths and think positive at this point. We are waiting on a call from the Supervisor, been waiting quite a long time..aha OWNER just showed up and it is amazing what happens when the owner of the company shows up.  He showed the crew some creative ways to work around the bushes....love those smart owners.  So currently they are digging the holes for the new fence with the promise of finishing by days end.

I bought a sign yesterday that said...."I'm not sure if life is passing me by or trying to run me over." That is exactly what life has felt like this past week, that life is definitely running me over.  But then as I am standing in the front watching the fence come down, my neighbor and fellow book club member walks by and proceeds to tell me that her Mother has brain cancer and is failing very quickly.  So when you put all that in perspective, a bunch of plants and a computer that crashed or your Mother, there is no contest.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."  ~  Theodore Roosevelt

Until next time.....

  2. you're right. hearing what some others are faced with, puts our own little woes and worries and frets into perspective. *sigh* hope the fence turns out well.

  3. Oy, poor computer, poor you! I do agree cleaning house makes me just feel at ease (the day we were locked down when the marathon bomber was being hunted I scrubbed the apartment to relax myself!)

  4. I've had a day clearing out my daughters wardrobe...believe me I'd rather have loved to do my office! I do hope the fence gets finished on time and can understand your frustrations on trying to sort this out. Sorry to hear about your problems with your computer, but all sorted now and I bet you are loving the newness of technology! xx

  7. I, for one, did wonder where you were. I was afraid you were ill. If someone/thing had to be ill, I'm glad it was your computer. So ... welcome back. And you'll be fine because you're tough. And you're also correct ... it's all about perspective. xo {Counting days!!!}

  8. Hi Deanna, It's good to have that "put it in perspective" reminder now and then. Life can turn quickly from minor to major!

  9. Hearing news such as this definitely does make us pull back and think quite a bit.

  10. That is a sad way to put things back in perspective. Prayers to your neighbor.

Glad you got a new computer and are up and running again. I noticed you had not posted for a few days.

The mess of your yard project isn't fun, but it will be worth it when all is said and done. We have the Window Guy coming to install several new windows on Monday. These are the windows that got damaged in the May 25th hail storm. I can't wait to have window screens that keep the fly out!

I love your flower picture. Very pretty and vibrant colors.

  11. I am glad you are up and running again. New computers can take a while to move into. I still haven't gotten all my photoshop actions back and that makes me so sad. I hope your fence works out and you can keep all your pretty flowers!

  12. I have missed you and glad you are back......You will have that new computer buzzing in no time and will probably be able to create things you hadn't before.....Glad the owner got the workers straightened out so you won't loose your flowers with the installation of the new fence....I know working in the office has been heart wrenching. It's always hard to have to deal with issues that concern the heart....

  13. I missed you, Deanna, and I'm sorry about the computer crash and the fence problems. I hope things are settling down now. You're right--it's easy to lose perspective, and then someone comes along who reminds us that life for all of us is hard in varying degrees at different times. You have a wonderful spirit and attitude, and I admire that. :-)

  14. We ALL know how devastating it is to have your computer crash. After all, so many friends that we have made are in Blogland! Not to mention, how else do you go shopping at 2 a.m.??? Not in our small town! So glad the owner of the fence company showed those guys the ropes! And it's a good thing you stood your ground and didn't just tell them ok....you'd have it cleaned out and then they could come back. There's more than one way to skin a cat! So sorry about your friend's mom. It seems that cancer is rampant these days. It does put our own problems into perspective when someone is losing someone who is dear to them! Hope tomorrow is a better day for both of you!

  15. Glad you got your computer problems worked out - ouch! Those unexpected expenses can really add up! Oh, I would be so upset about my flowers, it is good that you contacted the supervisor and figured something out. So good that you got through the task of cleaning up your office and now can start fresh with nice new paint. Is there anything a nice new coat of paint can't make right? Well, maybe not, but it sure helps. So sad about your neighbor's mother. No matter how difficult our trials, there is always someone going through worse to keep it all in perspective. Hope your week end is much more peaceful. xo

  16. Hi Deanna Well that was a rough patch but you have survived and are moving gon. Hearing from someone who has bigger problems really pulls you up and makes you grateful that your problems are not as great as theirs. Have a great weekend. Go back adn look at my peaceful post of yesterday, it might help you.

  17. Computer crash is no fun. Thankfully my husband is a retired computer engineer so he pretty much sees to ours and keeps me in business. Poor you and dealing with the fence issue and language barrier. I too worked on clearing out/ tidying up my craft area this week. Amazed by some of the stuff I came across and it has only been there for 10 years.

  19. I'm glad you are back again, Deanna (and this from me, who's been away for ages... ;-) ) and especially with a working computer! Isn't it unbelievable how dependent we are on these technical equipments...!
Aaah, I just love reading your posts :-) Have a wonderful weekend, Deanna!

  21. the light in this photograph is superb and I love these humble little marigolds and I LOVE the scent from their leaves - it's very nostalgic to me. As a young kid I remember my Mum would grow the large, taller growing African marigolds
