Fat Tuesday - Abe's Birthday
Today is commonly known as "Fat Tuesday", the day before Ash Wednesday which begins the Lenten Journey in the Christian world. It hardly seems fair that Valentine's Day is the day after Ash Wednesday when our thoughts and our stomachs should be focusing on giving up, perhaps even fasting, certainly not enjoying the "fruits" (ie chocolates) of the day. But I have a feeling God enjoys a good piece of chocolate no matter what day it might be, well not any day, but most days.
So just in case God doesn't indulge in chocolate the day after Ash Wednesday, instead of sweets to eat, I give you sweet flowers to enjoy. Today being Texture Tuesday at Kim Klassen's site, her challenge to us was to include some LOVE in our photos and ofcourse, to use one of her textures. I would LOVE for you to be my valentine.
I used Kim's texture Cora from her Downton Abbey collection, 2 layers, one at soft light at 41% opacity, the 2nd layer at linear burn at 27% opacity. And I topped it off with a layer of texture from Lenabem-Anna's textures all found on flickr. And speaking of Downton Abbey, I have taped the latest episode, but have not watched so nobody give me any spoilers....OK??!! And can you believe next Sunday is the last episode for this season....oh no, and now we have to wait another whole year for a return to the stories of the upstairs-downstairs characters at Downton.
And one more image from my weekend trip to Milwaukee....again using Lenabem-Anna's textures to enhance the image.
And today being Abraham Lincoln's Birthday...a quote from the great Abe
"A woman is the only thing I am afraid of that I know will not hurt me." ~ Abraham Lincoln
Until next time.....

How wrong old Abe was....women hurt so many men!! I know..I have two sons whose hearts have been broken by mean old girls many times!
ReplyDeleteYour picture with the textures is pretty, but I am curious as to what it looked like before. Maybe a before and after?
Both these images are lovely. Is the moon always that big where you live? I bought tulips last Wednesday. They're still not open and the stems are turning brown. Was so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteyeah, i'm not so sure abe knew what he was talking about. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely work, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI agree with TexWisGirl...did ole Abe know what he was talking about?
Only if you will be mine too! xo Love the labels on your TT and fun, fun on the last one!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are wonderful, Deanna! And although it's a bit early I'm wishing you a happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet Valentine! And yes ... today is Abe's birthday. As I told you yesterday, I'm on a real Abe-roll here, getting ready to start another Abe book.
ReplyDeleteHuh, I didn't even think of Valentine's being the day after Ash Wednesday this year. And I'm so disappointed to know that next Sunday is the last one for this season of DA. Gosh, I love that show with all their British customs and accents. Love your tulips and edits.
ReplyDeleteDeanna,
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to Betty from Artistic Expressions and she mentioned how she loves your photos. I just went searching for a comment from you on her blog and found you! She is right. I am so glad to meet you!
Abe was a wise man. Love that photo of the trees. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI am already your Valentine♥ The labels on the image are just the icing on the image.
ReplyDeletethose are some really sweet, pink tulips. so perfect with the texture too.
ReplyDeleteTulips are my favorite flower -- wishing I had some around me -- so I am loving this image.
ReplyDeleteHow you put this image together shows how skillful you are with your camera and adding the right texture!
Hugs
I really like both images. Very well done. Stopping by from Texture Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteSweet tulips, thank you. Hope you are having a lovely Fat Tuesday, I made too many "frittelle"... and ate like a pig! *blush*
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty tulips! Love that Kim has a Downton collection!
ReplyDeleteThe tulips are so pretty with the textures. It was also my Moms Birthday and I couldn't stop thinking of her today.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty & pink!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I watched my first ever episode of Downton Abbey last Sunday? And next week's the season finale! And I'm hopelessly hooked! After one episode! And I watched it with no knowledge of what it was about! Well, a little knowledge and a lot of recommendations from people who love it! And my trophy husband is also hooked!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and texture work as usual!
Happy Valentines Day!
xo,
Linda
I agree that Valentine's Day falls at an inopportune time for those strictly observing Lenten. The flowers are gorgeous and superbly edited, but that last shot is absolutely card worthy - please tell me that you intend to make it into a card.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice treat to stop by your place today and enjoy your lovely tulips and then some snow and full moon! Wise old Mr. Lincoln... Have a Happy Valentine's Day Deanna, and thanks for visiting my blog recently.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed both your edits - the tulips are serene, enjoy Deanna
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, and i really like the one that you used the texture from Lenabem Anna on. Checked out her textures which I have never seen before. Can you purchase them? All I see is the textures on Flickr. Are they free? If so , how do you get them. could not figure out if they were supposed to be purchased, and where? Some really great textures!
ReplyDeleteThe trip was more than worth it if only for the picture you posted today. You ought to win a prize for that one.
ReplyDeleteThat Abe was a wise man! Your texture shots evoke such moods. That last looks like a lithograph.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! Going to see Lincoln tonight!
ReplyDeleteJust watched the most recent episode of Downton last night... No spoilers here, just lots to love!
ReplyDeleteAnd <3, <3 your snowy moonlight Milwakee!
Your tulip image is stunning - love the texture. I am in love with that last shot though...
ReplyDeleteThose tulips are so pretty. Your editing looks amazing.. I LOVE it. And your second photo once again looks like a painting.
ReplyDeleteI just love the quote you have here from Lincoln. I wonder if thats how my husband feels. LOL...
Happy Valentine's to you too! Your photo is so adorable and pretty! And you are making me curious about Downtown Abbey, so I will have to look it up!
