A Little Wear'n of the Green

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all you Irishmen and women and those that suddenly develop Irish tendencies on this day.  But since my Dad's name, my Mother's maiden name, and my husband's name all ended in ER and are all very GERman, the chances of me even pretending to be Irish would be laughable.  No freckles, no red hair, no porcelain skin, no Irish brogue, nothing.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by many but here are a few facts I bet you didn't know about St. Patrick and the day we celebrate.

  1. St. Patrick wasn't even Irish.  He was actually born in Kilpatrick, Scotland.  When he was in his teens he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and enslaved as a shepherd for many years.
  2. The legend that St. Patrick rid Ireland of snakes is so not true....Ireland never was the home to a single snake due to the waters surrounding the Emerald Isle are way too cold for snakes to survive.
  3. Green may be the national color of Ireland, but the color most associated with St. Patrick is blue (I did not know this)....the order of St. Patrick was established in Ireland in 1783 as the senior order of chivalry in the Kingdom of Ireland and adapted the color blue to identify it from other orders already established in Ireland.
  4. The first recorded St. Patrick's Day parade was held in Boston in 1737.  Now the largest Irish parades are all held outside of Ireland, with New York having the largest.
  5. Using the simple shamrock with it's three leaves, St. Patrick explained to pagans the Christian belief in the Trinity.
And now....just for fun.  I searched Pinterest for a few fun pics celebrating the day.

An Irish blessing to start....

A little cupcake to enjoy...

A couple of our furry friends to help celebrate the day....

And I am not sure which costume I will wear for the party....can you help me decide??

Now that you have picked yourself up off the floor from laughing...I do hope you all have a Happy St. Patrick's Day...enjoy all the green beer, corn beef & cabbage, and fun times.  Now I am off to McDonald's to enjoy a Shamrock Shake!!

I have changed my comment moderation...don't be surprised.  No word verification (thank goodness), but I am now approving my comments before publishing.  I was being buried in spam.  Thanks for your understanding.

Until next time....

  1. you're too cute! i pick the 2nd outfit. :)

  2. I love your new banner!!
Well here's a Happy St.Patrick wish from an Irish born Canadian currently in Sedona!!

  3. I'm partial to that little plaid skirt. HA!

  4. LMAO!!!! you are a hoot! Great info and super fun post today Deanna.

  5. :-) I loved reading this, Deanna! So much information - learning with fun! :-)
As to the costume, now that's really difficult! I guess the second one is a liiiittle bit warmer and considering the temperatures I'd opt for no. 2. I can totally see that hairstyle on you! And for Toby outfit no. 1 - of the dog's outfits, of course... ;-)

  6. I give you the title of Blog Header Queen....You always come up with cutest designs and this one is no exception....

As for the party attire; I definitely think the bustiea (not sure of sp) is the way to go...It would give you a good push up and that would make the "girls" happy....Not sure about that hair...that may be over the top.....Carry a cape....As for Toby, I think he might prefer the first one as it is more dignified....You know the top hat and the clover in his mouth.....

I did enjoy reading all the information on the ST. Patrick....I knew very little of that....

  7. Another smile from visiting here! Happy St. Patty's Day and thanks for the trivia (much of which I was unaware).

  8. I'd definitely go with the costume that has a bottom part/section. Lol.

    Happy St. Pat's Day Deanna!

  9. Fun facts! Love the clover leaf object lesson. Funny how all these little traditions take hold--I guess in the end we all love a little merriment!

  10. Happy St. Paddy's Day! Love the little knit cap for the dog--I think Toby would like that. And you should totally rock the green Mohawk..:)

  11. Too funny. I'd say the first outfit. It's just more you. As for Toby's, I think the first one for him too.

  12. The last outfit is you! Please post pictures.

  13. Your fun facts have me smiling. And so do your photos.. I have a bit of the Irish in me as well as a bit of German.. My maiden name is Nuffer definitely German. On my mothers side of the family there name is Magee definitely Irish.. So what does that make me????

Hope you had a happy St Patties day my friend..

  14. I, too, am being buried in spam. Why do those idiots keep posting that? Don't they know we just delete it and nobody reads it anyway. It's readily identifiable as spam!

I say the outfits are not classy enough for you, but I think with a little gel and temporary green hair dye (spray), you could pull off the hairdo quite nicely! :)

I am a wee bit of Scottish, English and Irish decent...and a lot of Heinz 57. :)

  15. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! Yes, I agree let's get some gel and green spray in your hair. :) Beautiful!! xo

  16. And Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too! Sorry to hear about all the spam :(

  17. Funny facts, but that Irish blessing is beautiful. About your decision... I would pick the first one ;)LOL.

  18. Hello Deanna and belated birthday wishes to you...what a great group of friends too! This is my first drop in visit to your blog after reading your comment on another blog, Karen's away for the weekend blog. I enjoyed your post about St Patrick and thanks for the info. Please feel free to drop into our blog anytime, as we enjoy back door visitors. Loved the outfit choices too!

  19. Allyson went to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston yesterday. I was promised some pictures but guess who got them - her father. Kids! As for outfits - I'm pretty sure you could get away with the skirt of #1, but only if paired up with the hair in #2. LOL! My husband was on a kick recently on investigating old family names - I'm so German I practically goose step every time I get up to walk.

  20. Too funny! Think I would look good in the first costume!!! Not!!! Grew up in the Boton area, love the parade and your post! Have a great day!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment, I read and cherish them all. I will do my best to return the favor.
