Monday, Monday....

Well I never.....never have I seen a pickie bird.  Earlier this spring I hung a perfectly nice bird feeder with finch food waiting for the finches to come and delight me with their brilliant yellow feathers and their sweet chirps, and I waited and I waited and I waited, but no finches.  I have fed the finches every summer for the past several years so I felt they must know that I am friendly folk with no adversaries around to harm them, except for a bark or two from Toby now and again.  But no finches...hmm wonder why.  Couldn't be because I changed feeders on them could it?  The other feeder was getting old and a little gross, couldn't even get it entirely clean, so I bought a brand new feeder, hung it, filled it with fresh food, but nothing.  Yesterday morning I decided, what the heck, I will dig out the old feeder and see what happens.  And before the afternoon sun had hit the west side of the house, my yellow feathered finches were back.  Now I would call that a pickie bird, not happy with a brand new feeder, but give him the old and comfortable and he's happy.  Kinda reminds me of me and my slippers.  Mine are old, holey (and I don't mean blessed) but oh so much more comfortable than the new ones.  I guess it doesn't matter if something is old, or not quite as clean as you would like it to be, what's important is the comfort it brings.  Doesn't he look like he is looking at me and thinking...."well, it's about time."

Every Monday, Kim Klassen, in her Beyond Layers Class presents us with a new challenge.  This morning she introduced us to Spine Poetry.  I had never heard of Spine Poetry, but I was up for the challenge.  It is simply gathering books and stacking them to create a semblance of poetry.  Didn't take me too long to gather a few for my first attempt at Spine Poetry.  Check out more here.

Just in case you can't read the titles.....

More scenes from the garden....

Some garden art, with more art added...

It's is so wonderful when your next door neighbor loves flowers as much as you do....

Have to have at least one shot of the hydrangeas....

Hope your Monday is filled with wonder and beauty....

  1. I wish my neighbors would just mow their damned grass! Too much to ask that they actually try to make their yards look good. I have found that to be true of birds. They are not very trusting about new things. I have shown so many pics of birds, my readers are probably getting tired of them!

  3. Deanna, I had a similar experience with the bird feeder only my mistake was I moved it to where I could watch from my kitchen window. I saw the odd bird now and again but as soon as I moved it back to its original home they were all over it. Who knew they were so picky, as you said. I love the idea of the Spine Poetry and that old scale is just lovely.

  5. I've had the same problem with a feeder - in the end they eventually started to feed from it as I placed it beside the old one for a while so they could get used to it.

Lovely cheerful and colourful palette of colours Deanna.

  6. Beautiful post Deanna I had to laugh about the finches. I ran out of the food that they like and they stopped visiting. I bought the expensive stuff and within a few hours they were back. Funny little birds.

  7. I finally put up a feeder this year. I have not done it yet cuz last year when I decided to the squirrels and racoons tore them all up. My husband and I decided to go about it differently.

  9. The spine poetry is so clever! Your first attempt is really good! That's funny how your finch friends were wary of the new feeder. Amazing pics.
