Letters on Friday

Dear Stomach Virus/Food Poisoning, not sure which you were but you sure knocked me for a loop this week.  I haven't "thrown-up" for at least 15+ years, I hate (I know that is a strong word) doing it.  I know it is probably the means your body uses to get rid of what it doesn't want, but oh brother it is so disgusting.  Sure hope it is another 15+ years before I do that again.

Dear ROKU, bet you are wondering what that is, aren't you?  It is a little device about the size of a hockey puck that attaches to your TV enabling you to watch streaming video from Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu etc. etc.  I just watched 20 episodes of "Falling Skies" on my computer screen, catching up on the 1st two seasons before the premier of the 3rd this past Sunday.  Now granted I have a 17 inch laptop and I could see fine....but it is still not like sitting on your comfortable couch watching on your 42 inch flat screen HDTV (a gift my Mom left me).  While attending my last bookclub gathering one of the ladies talked about this little piece of wonder entitled a ROKU.  She explained what it was, I ordered it from Amazon, it arrived yesterday and with the assistance of my geek neighbor, hooked it up and viola...SUITS Season 1 in HDTV and no commercials via Amazon Prime.  So, if you don't have a wireless DVD player, which I don't, and you have an Amazon Prime Account, or Netflix or Hulu or any of those streaming video providers, ROKU is the answer.

Dear Weather, other than another drenching rain this past week, you have just about been perfect.  Sunshine, in the 70's and with the rain, no thoughts of watering.  The gardens are looking spectacular and I am off to another garden walk today.

Dear Garden Walk, oh you were absolutely glorious today.  There were 5 homes, each one different than the other but each one absolutely beautiful and each with incredible gardens.  Wowzers they were!!  And with the rain and mild temps we have had so far this summer the gardens were at their "show-off" best.  Here is just a sampling...if you love gardens as much as I do, this is gonna make you wish you were here....

Many had beautiful table settings....

One garden was filled with "fairy gardens"....you could hardly take a step without discovering another one....here are just a couple (more later)

Many had sweet little vignettes....

And each had beautiful front doors...

Dear Sale, after the garden walk ofcourse we stopped for lunch and a little shopping.  I found this sweet little birdhouse "on sale" (the best kind) that I thought would add to my backporch tablescape.

All in all a wonderful day.  Another perfect "San Diego" day.

Linking to Nancy's Random Five on Friday and Kim's Friday Finds....

Until next time....

  2. Food poisoning is the worst! I had a bout about 6 years ago and hope I never have another. I was traveling in CA at the time - no fun! Feel better soon. The garden walk photos are amazing. So different there in Chicago from here in Breckenridge! The gardens are so polished and wonderful. And green!

  3. How awful! I'm so sorry about your food poisoning/virus. And you're totally right about the vomiting thing. I strongly dislike it too. I had norovirus back in Feb. '12, and it was like something out of the exorcist. I've heard that food poisoning can take down a Marine. I don't doubt it, and i'm so glad you're better.

Your garden photos are lovely! Have a beautiful weekend! :)

  4. I don't think hate is too strong of a word for throwing up. I cannot imagine anyone who does anything BUT hate it!

I have a dvd player that streams Netflix and Vudu and several others. I have really enjoyed it. I've had it for a little over a year now. Best investment I ever made!

Love the garden walk....thanks for taking us along.

  7. Wasn't familiar with Fairy Gardens - but those are simply adorable. Sorry you became reacquainted with 'upchuck' - nasty way of the body trying to better itself. Back to more pleasant things - your little bird house is so cute. (I also really like that red-white-blue tablescape)

  8. Oh boy, I'm glad you're feeling better - and hate is not too strong of a wood for that. The gardens are beautiful - I'm not sure which table setting I like best. And such a cute birdhouse! Enjoy your weekend, Deanna!

  9. I've enjoyed your photos of the garden walk, so beautiful. The weather (rain, rain, rain)in Holland made gardens look like swamps and most of my flowers were drowned :(
So, yes I envy you and wished I was there. Have a great weekend!
