Brown

This week for the Shades of Autumn Challenge the color is 'brown".  Although probably not my favorite color, it does have it's place amongst the golds, reds, oranges, and purples.  It is the color of dirt, and we wouldn't have those other brilliant leaf colors without "brown dirt".  Good rich, dark brown dirt.  Oh how I long for that in my garden.  Our "dirt" is really a pitiful shade of clay and rocks.  For me to have good dirt, I have to buy it. But again, I digress.  This week I did try to come up with some "brown" images, so here goes.......

One of our local garden centers has a pen full of ducks and this one happens to be brown.....

Those prickly weeds that stick to Toby on our walks.....

And Toby, who just happens to be brown, standing next to a brown tree, on top of brown dirt.....
A little vase filled with brown things.......
Dried hydrangeas that I snip and bring in to decorate the Christmas Tree.....

I promise you these leaves were brown, I just added a little more brown tone to them.....

"Someone once threw me a small, brown, hairy kiwi fruit, and I threw a wastebasket over it until it was dead."    ~   Erma Bombeck

The above quote really doesn't have much to do with this post except for the word "brown"....and I thought it was funny.

Until next time......

Purple

I think I tend to think of Fall in terms of reds, yellows, oranges and golds.  But....if we look closer we can find another beautiful color, purple.  Now purple can be light or dark, pinkish or reddish but whatever hue it is, let's not forget it.  And that's exactly what "Shades of Autumn" is all about, highlighting a beautiful color each week.  And this week, (surprise, surprise) it's purple.....

Reddish purple.....

Pinkish purple.....

And purple purple.....

An Ode to Orange

When else can we display orange at it's finest if not in Fall?  By definition Orange means the color of autumn, well doesn't it.  What other time of the year does orange become a focal point or a weekly theme or a favorite centerpiece or the color of leaves on trees or the hues in a new fall scarf or hat or the color of pies, when else I ask you?  So here is my ode to orange to celebrate that glorious fall color........

Orange cars....not particularly my favorite color for a car, but it sure is easy to spot.

This colorful lady was one of the street vendors in Santa Fe, NM - loved that hat and glasses....

That fall scarf I mentioned earlier....

Those silly salt & pepper shakers that only come out once a year.....

A few colorful flowers still around....not much longer I fear.

Look at that leaf, where else can you get such uncontested beauty??

And what other time of the year does orange candy fill the candy dishes waiting for a nibble here a nibble there.....

There is beauty in those pumpkin stems, some call it stem envy.

And the ever so popular pumpkin pie cheesecake.....oh yum!!

Orange pansies....love these beautiful flowers in fall & spring.  The perfect cool weather flower.  Sharing with......

And finally, my sweets, an orange rose, so delicate with an added Kim Klassen texture.

There are many, many, many more oranges, what can you add to the mix??

Fence Friday

I love to photograph fences, don't ask me why, just do.  I think it started when I joined Flickr last year and came upon a weekly challenge entitled Fence Friday.  Gorgeous fences are displayed each Friday, but since I began the Big Picture Classes, blogging, various challenges, etc, I just can't do it all.  I don't know how young mothers keep up with doing all that they do and sleep too.  Maybe that is the answer, no sleep.  Sometimes you have to pick and chose, not that I want to.  If you are like me you want to do it all.  Maybe I like fences because they remind me that "the grass is not always greener on the other side." or not to let fences stop me from finding joy in the everyday (metaphorically speaking).

“A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.” ~  Sophia Loren

“Throw your heart over the fence and the rest will follow” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

“The wide world is all about you; you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

“It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions.” ~  Jim Rohn

“Careful as a naked man climbin' a barbed wire fence” ~  Cowboy Proverb

"If you strive for the moon, maybe you'll get over the fence."  ~  James Woods

“The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence but you still have to mow it.” ~ Proverb Quote

I decided to add this to a new challenge....this week's challenge is Yellow

Some of these photos were obviously taken on my trip to Colorado.  Other's are just a few of my older stash.  Hope you enjoyed my Fence Friday.
