Weekend Wrap....

This weekend, while the northeast was being buried in snow, I enjoyed 2 movies, 2 lunches and 1 dinner with friends, and a trip to Milwaukee to visit my grandson and his wife.  A fun-filled weekend. The first movie was "Side Effects" with Jude Law and Rooney Mara (aka the girl with the dragon tattoo).  If you like a mystery with a few twists and unexpected turns go see this movie...all 4 of us really enjoyed it, altho I must admit we had to discuss question it over lunch...there are some twists that definitely needed discussion.

The 2nd movie was "Lincoln"...omg, I can see why this has received so many awards and nominations. Spielberg knows how to create a movie that is both informative along with brilliant acting.  I can't even begin to chose a favorite in the acting category....Daniel Day Lewis was absolutely Lincoln personified, Sally Field was outstanding as Mary (Molly as Abe called her) Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones (oh he is not a handsome man) as Thaddeus Stevens, and James Spader, (was a handsome man, now not so much) as W.N. Bilbo all delivered wonderful performances.  There were others...these just happened to stand-out to me.

Saturday I drove to Milwaukee, only about a 2 hour drive and literally all expressway driving to visit with Brandon & Hilary.  On the drive up the snow and ice was still clinging to the trees so it was a dazzling display....I was so tempted to take a side-trip, but kept driving forward.  Once there we drove down to the lakefront (only about 4 blocks from their home).  The lake was so blue, which surprised me.  I expected it to be grey.

A couple of sweeties....

The homes in this part of the city are all old and majestic with interesting roofs and front doors....

Love this one with all that wood trim around the front door....

On our drive I also spotted this lighthouse...the North Point Light Station established in 1855 and is now on the National Registry of Historic Lighthouses.  How pretty against the blue of the sky.

And finally our trip to Anthropologie where I was overwhelmed by the fun things they have....you can seriously drop some change in this store.  Here is a little cup (I know you are totally surprised by my purchase) and a little Valentine wish....

A Little Winter, A Little February, A Little 365

Yes, it's cold...snowy, not so much, but darn right cold.  Right now the sun is shining, but it is 11 degrees with a windchill making it feel like -5.  I met one of my friends for a nice breakfast this morning, then decided I should drive to the Arboretum and see what I could find.  Well, it was so friggin' cold, I never managed to even open the car door, let alone get out and wander.  What pictures I took were from the driver's seat with a rolled down window.  What an adventurer I am.....not!!  So what you see below are car-window-shots....not the best, but heh, when the windchill is -5 this is what you get.

OK I probably need to take a trip to Trader Joe's and gather up some spring flowers for a more colorful blog post, and maybe that will happen later, but right now, what you see is what you get.

On a brighter note...today is the first day of February which means this month we will gain an average of about 2 minutes a day more light and by the end of the month our days will be lighter by 70 minutes.  I could sure take an extra 70 minutes a day more light, how about you?!  And because it is February 1st...the love month, here is a little love your way....an early Valentine.

And finally....I completed one month of my 365....yippee.  I found this template on the digichick web page here for anyone that is interested in this layout.  I had a couple people inquire when I posted this to my flickr page.

Hope everyone has had a good week and here's hoping you have a great weekend ahead.

Ya Gotta Have Heart

Ya gotta have heart....lots and lots of heart.  This is heart month. Valentines Day is staring us in the face with the store aisles overflowing with candies and heart shaped pink, purple and red items in abundance.  I remember as a teenager agonizing over choosing the appropriate card for whoever had my heart at that moment, not too sweet or sappy, but enough to let "him" know that he had captured my attention .

My sweetie was not into the love holidays...in fact he usually forgot until the day arrived and then suddenly remembered he had not bought anything to commemorate the day.  A feeling of remorse would overcome him which resulted in a quick trip to the local Walgreens to grab whatever caught his panic filled eyes.  All he usually managed was a heart-felt Hallmark card and sometimes a piece of candy.  Flowers, never.   Candy, flowers, cards yes, they are symbols of means of expressing your love.  But a daily dose of "I love you" expressed with total commitment meant much more to me than candy, flowers or cards.  I did not need a special day to know how much my husband loved me.  How do you celebrate Valentine's Day??
