Beyond Layers - "Awaken" To A New Beginning

Began a new class last week with Kim Klassen, entitled "Beyond Layers", a 52 week class that will inspire us to find our joys, creativity and uncover our own layers.  The first week our assignment was to write our own story....decided against that, too long.  The second week we were encouraged to write a 6 word description of ourselves.  Almost too short...but I am giving this a try.....

"Learned to accept, open for beginnings"

Kim also gave us a new texture layer to play with and encouraged us that "less" can be more.  In other words, use layers with a light touch instead of heavily texturing.  Since her journey with textures and I might add she is definitely "The Texture Queen", she has lightened up her touch to add more subtlety to her work.  So this week it is lightness and less with her new texture layer entitled "Awaken".   Each one of the images below has the texture Awaken applied.  I did each one about the same way.  Lightened each image in PSE, cropped most of them, used my "favorite new effect, Velvet Truffle, then added 2 layers of Awaken.  First layer at soft light, 2nd layer at linear burn but only at about 20-30% (remember "lite" touch).

The Week That Was 3rd Edition

I am on a roll....

Until next time.....

Scavenger Hunt Sunday The January 22nd Edition

The thrill of the hunt is back again at Ashley's blog.  Each week we are given a list of five subjects to track down and photograph to present here on Sunday.  Every week is different, every week is a challenge.  Since we are given the list the Sunday prior, if I was smart I would prepare for this all week long and as soon as Sunday dawned, I would be ready.  But alas, (alas? who uses that word??) I never am totally prepared.  But today is better than most, it is only 10:00 AM here and I am ready to post.

This week the thrills are....Sunset ~ Black & White ~ A Day in My Life ~ Four ~ Colorful

Sunset - It is so difficult for me to get a really great sunset shot here in my neighborhood...so many trees and houses that block the view.  Last night I walked outside and did manage to catch the sun as it set behind the trees.

Black & White....It think we all should be Queen of our castles homes....

A Day in My Life....each day varies, but one thing I do everyday is eat.....

Four - This is the windowsill in the living room that holds various treasures. Currently it is the home of the sob, dying tulips.  But it also holds 4 letters that spell HOME, my safe haven.  And, it also contains a photograph of the 4 generations of women in our family until my Mom passed away.

Colorful - A jar full of colored pencils that brings color to all they touch.

That's it for this week....the thrills will be back again next week.

Until next time......
