Oh For Cryin' Out Loud.....

Oh for cryin' out loud!!  As I sat and read the newspaper and drank my coffee this morning there were 2 articles in the morning newspaper, one from a regular columnist and one on the editorial page discussing a new series coming to TV on the OXYGEN cable network entitled "All My Babies' Mamas."  A reality TV series based on an Atlanta, GA rapper, Shawty Lo (where do they come up with these names??) his 10 former girlfriends and their 11 children.  They live together in a fancy mansion in the Atlanta suburbs along with his skinny new girlfriend that is as old as his eldest child.  How would you like to be their neighbors??  Not only does this reality show de-mean all women, but it truly is a slap in the face to black women everywhere.  And we the American public TV watcher are asked to laugh at this situation.  Along with this disgusting new show we also have the chunky blond girl called Honey Boo Boo who is being sold these days as some kind of new Shirley Temple (they're kidding right??).  Quoting from the Chicago Tribune...."To get her energy level up, the 6-year-old Boo Boo's parents give her a combination of Mountain Dew and Red Bull.  They call it "go-go juice." That's not the Good Ship Lollipop.  That's child abuse."  I refuse to watch either one of these TV shows and I encourage you to do the same....maybe with no viewers the producers of such trash TV will be out of a job.

There are plenty of good shows on TV that are definitely worth watching (The Good Wife, Parenthood, Nashville, Scandal, and Showtime's Homeland are a few of my favorites) all with strong women.  Not always the picture perfect woman, but definitely honest portrayals of today's woman and would never depict the role of a woman like those in "All My Babies' Mamas."

I think I have ranted enough....but issues like this really try my soul.

  2. The agenda is to ruin this nation, and the masses are letting them. Today's bright spot is your picture! Oh, that and my Atlanta daughter and her two girls are on their way to see me!

  3. I am constantly amazed, at the new lows they can reach with so-called 'Entertainment'.

We don't watch any of these 'reality' programs. It's just not the kind of reality we even want to imagine. There is plenty on tv about real things...nature and history shows, come to mind.

I understand your disgust. I hope nobody watches. But, I'm afraid they probably will. :(

  6. First, I LOVE your photo! I think the calm in it is definitely needed after reading your post. That new show sounds ridiculous! I agree with the above: DEPRESSING!

Thanks for the eye goodie though!!

  9. American culture and ideals are going down the drain and I'm afraid there's no coming back. It's why I spend more time finding lovely blogs like yours to read and admire. Your charming photos are always such a delight!

  10. Had to laugh at your rant. Love it and agree. The sad thing is that people love to watch that stuff. It's like watching a train wreck. We love Parenthood, although it's getting a little sad.

  11. You go girl! Great Rant! I had not yet heard of this particular show but I was ranting silently about another new show focusing on women who wear at least a Double D size bra (and larger). I couldn't imagine a whole series on fitting bras.
Your show tops that. All part of the Dumbing Down of America. Obviously Hollywood has run out of talented and creative writers and thinkers. Somebody stop me now....I'm beginning to rant too.

  12. I don't watch shows like that either. I feel kind of sad when I think of the direction our world is going.

  13. I hear you loud and clear. (Just hearing Honey Boo Boo on the commercials is annoying. Why does she always scream?)

With "reality" tv, I pretty much draw the line at those Kardashians. I don't even know why they're so popular. I'm always saying they should rename the E! channel K!

  16. I love this rant...I agree....and who gives a child Mt. Dew with Red Bull..that Red Bull is dangerous stuff!! I absolutely love your new header. When I was trying to find a calendar yesterday I thought of you and your beautiful creations...you should set up an Etsy shop. Thank you so much for participating in Cool Clicks, I really appreciate it.

  17. Amen amen amen!! I couldn't agree with you more! Just filth and trash. I watch Parenthood, Nashville, reruns of older sitcoms, and HGTV. That's it. Sometimes I see things like Honey Boo Boo on my screen and I want to just throw the thing out the window. I have no patience for idiocy at my age. You tell 'em, Deanna! lol

  18. I haven't heard of any of those shows! I try to avoid tv...

  19. Yeah, as reality shows get more air time, my television set gets less. I really just don't watch very much anymore - good thing I love to read!

  21. Local talk radio was discussing the rapper's show. No one who called in was the least bit interested. They also question whether or not the producers, two white women I believe, set them up in the house. Another caller suggested that they do DNA testing to see if they're really his kids or just something created for TV. The only reality TV I ever watch is The Amazing Race. Much rather watch Castle (he's just too darn cute),Psych and other shows on USA and TNT.

  22. When my kids are at school, I don't even turn on the TV, not ever and haven't for a year now, don't miss it. If something really important happens I usually find out about it. I do like watching the occasional cooking show at night. But I do agree with you, some of the shows they come up with are just stupid !! I say garbage in, garbage out... ; )

  23. Beautiful photo. And I so agree with your opinion on these types of shows. I so long for some wholesome entertainment. It is a very rare occasion that I will watch any form of "reality" program. Hoping that neither of these shows makes it to UK TV but eventually they will I am sure.

  24. I've about had it with all reality tv, but even more so with news channels. I've turned those off completely and have never been happier. I can't even watch the weather channel anymore because they keep doing news stories based on their political agenda. All I want to know is the weather report!
