Why?

Why do grocery store flowers not have that glorious rose aroma.....?  Yes, I am still taking pictures of these roses I bought last week at Trader Joe's.  They are dying but they are as beautiful now as they were when I first bought them.

Why does juice always taste better from a pretty glass.....?

Why do hydrangeas seem to soothe my soul fresh or dried......?

And why did I decide to do a "Now You" 52 weeks of self portraiture class?  Over the next year you will probably get to see every square inch of me (well not every square inch) and I did not use the "remove wrinkles, smooth skin" effect eventho it took a lot of self-convincing not to.  So here are my first attempts for the class.....

No make-up, end of the day selfie....still figuring out the how's and why's.  Oh Lord, look at those sagging jowls and what is that under my eyes??  Could it be bags and wrinkles?  See, that's where that "smooth skin" effects would really come in handy.

One of my better features....small, flat ears (giggle)

So there you have it...the first selfies of the year.  Some people may think this is brave, but heh, when you are going to be 70 on your next birthday which is just a couple of months away, I say what's left to hide at this stage in the game.

"Laugh a lot, and when you're older, all your wrinkles will be in the right places."  ~  Anonymous

Until next time....

  2. I like your portraits.

Why, indeed, did they take all the lovely scent out of those roses? I like the old fashion ones.

    Have a good day.

  3. Deanna, I wish there were more women like you that are embracing each stage of life with such grace. You're still a beautiful lady with beautiful eyes and good skin. Almost 70? Really? Lately I've been going around the house wearing just light powder on my face and it's so liberating.

  5. You are a brave soul! It helps that you are beautiful.
Isn't it the hybrid flowers that don't have scents? I feel the same way about hydrangeas!

  10. You are absolutely beautiful. I have much to learn from you regarding self portraits...I am just now adjusting to the radical aging process that seemed to occur this past year ;)

  11. I agree in principal, Deanna, with the age thing,,, But! I like your wrinkles and bags more than mine. My face isn't looking its best right now after the frostbite - I won't be as brave as you! I do think there is beauty at any age or stage in the life cycle - look at that rose and the dried hydrangea. We must only open our eyes and appreciate it. I do appreciate you, my friend!

  13. Brave and beautiful! I'm 46. I've got a bit of time before 70 and I am already editing all my selfies. I don't take many, but when I do you can be assured it will be edited. I love instagram filters! Maybe I'm vain. Maybe I lack confidence. Maybe I worry to much about what people think. Maybe I long for the old days. Well, now you've got me thinking . . . . none of these maybes are very good are they? Hmmmm.

  20. You are one of the bravest women - I am a strong woman, most of the time - but I am not brave enough to venture too much in front of the camera. These are magnificent and I absolutely LOVE that last shot. You are also a beautiful woman.

I also agree that just about everything tastes better in a pretty class and I suspect the fragrance of a freshly cut rose from the garden still has that incredible aroma because it is .... freshly cut. And sometimes I am a smart ass. Probably another reason to not venture too much in the line of camera fire.

  31. Your self portraits made me remember a quote of Jill Krasner on her Canvas Collage:

~ AGING SHE DISCOVERD, WAS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR "GROWING" AND SHE WAS (FINALlY!) AT LAST, GROWING INTO THE PERSON SHE ALWAYS MEANT TO BE. ~

    Deanna, you're still looking FABULOUS!

  33. oh my gosh, those are you first selfie attempts? They are terrific! I've tried and tried and tried and they're always out of focus or so incredibly "why did she take that one?" that I finally gave up trying. You should be very proud of those -- very well done.
