The water has receded a little, but we have a long way to go to get back to normal....the "pond" across the street is actually an empty basin for water retention and is probably 30 feet deep. So you can see how much water our storms brought.
Dear Mother Nature, what's up?? Yesterday you pelted us with rain....today it is snow, and by the way, the calendar says it's Spring. So where is it already??
Dear Cleaning Lady, thank you. You come, you make my house sparkle, you put clean sheets on my bed and you return every two weeks just like clockwork. You are an indulgence I refuse to give up.
Dear Trader Joe's, you seem to be in my letters rather frequently, but you continue to delight me with your flowers for sale, your frozen foods that are such a convenience for me, and your dog-food for Toby. The only dry dog food that he has actually liked.
Dear Sump Pump, thank you, thank you, thank you....if it wasn't for your continuing work pumping out all that water, my basement would be a huge mess. And along with the sump pump, thank you electricity for continuing to stay on during the rainstorms....the combination of you two saved me from disaster.
Here's praying next week will be a better week for all.....

Until next time.....
power and sump pumps - hooray for both! your bloom is so pretty. love the birdie, too.
ReplyDeleteYay for your sump pump and Trader Joe's, flowers, your cleaning lady and wonderful photos! And - you are so right - we don't need anything of the rest...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend and hopefully with sunshine, Deanna!
I hope you have a much better, calmer, dryer week next week. Your ranunculus is fabulous as it that little bird.
ReplyDeleteThis really has been quite a week. I remember those retention "ponds" in the Chicago area. I hope the water recedes soon and Spring makes a real appearance. The flowers are lovely -yeah for Trader Joes!
ReplyDeleteUgh...this week has been tough. I need a Trader Joe's closer to me! Gorgeous flowers and I love their food. <3
ReplyDeleteIt has been a tough week. So sorry about the flooding, and I am so glad the sump pump and the electricity worked for you! I hope the sunshine will visit you soon!
ReplyDeleteTrader Joes, sump pumps, and cleaning ladies ... yeehaw!!! Lovely blooms and love the birdie.
ReplyDeleteLove your flower shot. The snow is melting rapidly here too and some places the flood is a foot higher than the highest levels last year. Add the ice blocking some of the rivers and it's a disaster. I hope it will be over soon.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a rough week! But there are the flowers, the cleaner and Trader Joes. All good things.
ReplyDeleteToday they finished up removing the trees that fell in our yard from hurricane Sandy back in October. There is still a cracked utility pole in our front yard. They came yesterday and put a new one in and now have to move the wires from the cracked on to the new one. For the first time since October we can pull up to our house and it doesn't look like we job hit by a hurricane. Well except for the broken pole. I hope the weather lets up for you and next week is a better one!
ReplyDeleteYes, it has been one hell of a week all of us will remember for a long time to come. I like how you explained why it was a bad week, but also provided some bright spots too. Lovely flowers. xo
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just have to count the little blessings, don't we? Glad you're safe and sound.
ReplyDeletei love that you made your 5 all positive & thankful. so great.
ReplyDeletei am there with you that next week will be a more happy one. fingers crossed. ( :
i'm happy that you have such a great relationship with Trader Joe's & their flowers. so fun!!
Sounds like it was an interesting week. Glad you made it through the rain. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt has indeed been a week. Your pictures are gorgeous...particularly the tangerine rose. I've got Martini glasses in freezer for Happy Hour when hubby gets home tonight...shall I add a third for you? He's a Gin Man, me...I prefer Vodka. If I do say so myself...I make a mean Martini, so much so, that we never order them out anymore because we're always disappointed. Would you care for a LemonDrop or a Dirty Martini...those are my specialties.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet so many nice folks from Friday 5
During times like these, the only thing you can do to keep sane is to count the blessings you do have in your life! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteTrader Joe's rocks! So many goodies in there!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping and praying for better times too. This week was awful for so many reasons...
Sorry to hear about your flooding- but very glad your electricity stayed on- that would have made it a double disaster for sure. Hope you have a better weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I would do without Trader Joe's. I do know that I need to learn restraint when it comes to their floral selection! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteOve the past 10 days I have been to Trader's, the florist and grocery for flowers!! Plus picked every single daffodil in the yard so they wouldn't get ruined in the heavy rain. I've had so many flowers - but no sunshine. I would love some sunshine. So happy for your working sump pump and electricity Deanna!! Love your florals!!
ReplyDeletePraying for many of the same things!
ReplyDeletevery clever post Deanna; I like these a lot ...
ReplyDeleteGlad the water receded and that your sump pump did its job well. Yes, this week has been pretty dismal. In addition to the national tragedies one of my classmates is in critical condition after suffering a massive heart attack and another one died of a stroke. Not a good week at all. Our faith in humanity might be shaken, but as Patton Oswalt said, the good people still outnumber the bad and always will. God, let's hope.
ReplyDeleteLove your letters!
ReplyDeleteOh I just love that little shabby chic bird!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this week has had it's many downs. Sometimes the world gets crazy. Hope keeps us going.
May your weekend bring sunnier skies and may joys abound for you.
Once again... in love with all your photos and words :)
ReplyDeleteAnd your blog header is amazing btw! ♥
Yes, it was an awful week, but you found some positives. So glad your electricity and sump pump kept working.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Deanna - until we flipped on the TV to something 'other' than Boston this morning, I wasn't even aware of the horrible flooding in the Chicago area. I am so glad you have not suffered the ill effects of it (beyond the inconvenience and underlying fear of 'what ifs' that come with flooding). Chin up, the sun will return and the warmth and joy it brings will be all the more rewarding.
ReplyDeleteSomeday, maybe, we will find a way to distribute blessings so that one area does not suffer drought while another is suffering the damage of floods. I love your final quote.
