If Not Now, Then When?

If not now, when?  What a grand question that Kim asked us this morning in her Beyond Layers Class.  I remember as a child my Mother would ask me that very question when it was time to "clean-up" my room, or when chores needed to be completed before my Mom would get home from work,   I was always the "I'll do it later" kinda gal.  Unfortunately as hard as my Mom tried she could not break me of that habit of, .....always later.

As I think back on my life and especially now, those bad habits are still raising their ugly head.  Just ask me, "when did you finally take the last box of Christmas to the basement?"  Hmm, what's the date today, April 2nd....ok, April 2nd."  Is that embarrassing or what??  My Mom isn't around to ask me the eternal question, "If not now, when?" In fact I even had to stop writing this post so I could finish carrying down the last 3 boxes.  I may be a procrastinator, but I try awfully hard not to lie.

I do have quite a list of "if not now, when?" things to be done.  I mentioned the other day that I had bought a can of red spray paint to brighten up the chair for the front porch.  I am delighted to say, that project is finished....see below.

And here are the lamps I bought at Home Good's for $30 apiece...a real steal.  Do you think they are too tall for the table??  They are so much taller than the ones that adorned that table for 127 years.

I still want to get all 3 of the bathrooms re-painted and all I have to do is make that call to the painters and I can get movin' on that "not now, when?"  And I oh so want to re-do the office space.  It looks like a freakin' tornado went thru there, papers, books, stuff all over.  I have even lost the path from the door to the desk, it is that bad.  Why am I confessing all this?  I don't know maybe it will embarrass me enough to get off my duff and get movin'.  We all have our hidden dark sides but my "hidden" is busting out at the seams.  I also have a project in mid-stream, hopefully I will finish it quite soon, printing and displaying my photography.  I bought three clip frames at Michael's last week and now have decided to get three more and have a mini gallery wall in the family room.  Will post as soon as finished.

The two photos below were textured with Kim's latest texture for us in The Beyond Layer's class entitled "the little things"...and these are little things that make me happy.

I need to blow this up poster size and put it someplace where I see it ALL the time.....

I am off to Michael's to get the rest of the pin clip frames so I can finish another project.

Until next time.....

  9. Deanna, I loved your post. I just loved it. In it you made me laugh and nod my head a lot. And I thought it was wonderful how you opened up and confessed about your office space being a freaking tornado mess! You should see mine. Eek! I think we all have in common that "If not, then when . . ." syndrome thing. It seems to run rampant amongst the creative spirits out there. Oh well, at least we can write about it and make each other laugh and smile out loud. So that's not such a bad thing. Right? Right! And by the way, I love that red chair! :)

  10. Depending on the project, it's sometimes hard for me to feel motivated too, so you're not alone. I think my problem is that I like everything super organized and then if I can't get it that way, I don't feel like doing it at all. I like your idea about the poster...that is such a pretty photo!

  11. Well at least you are honest and up front and know how you are. I don't think that bad. I am having trouble even answering that question. Your photos are so lovely. And I really do love popping in here for a visit.

    Hugs~

  14. Like the others you made me laugh this morning and always like laughing in the morning to start the day. I love the chair and flower pot. Good choice. As far as the lamps I love the height, I would however think about moving the two plates around so they aren't hiding behind the lamps. You can either move them up to the second row of plates or maybe to the top of the top row. I would just play with a circle of brown paper cut to the size of the plate and tape to the wall until you find something you like. Just my opinion of course it is your home and it is beautiful home even if you can't find a path to your desk. :) I have the same problem and need to get on with it because I know I will feel a lot better for it. I saw Kim's post also and it spoke to me, now if it would just get my closet cleaned out that would be helpful.

  15. Oh what a memory, Deanna!
My Mom was a "If not now, when?" person too, and she really needed to be with me.
I guess it kind of stuck, because I am pretty good at not having to remind myself of her words.
It sure was nice to hear them again here though.
    Thank you my Friend!

  21. Love your second last photo, so beautiful and airy.
Always feels good to make positive moves on those lists of should-do, need-to-do tasks. The results usually give back much more than the effort taken too.

  22. Seems this is the week that many bloggers are getting things out in the open -- I guess that's a good way to face whatever problem or issue one is having is to shine a light on it! Very thoughtful and honest post. Your photos are lovely and I think if you like those lamps, then they are perfect. Have a great week.
