Five Senses Friday - The 1st Edition

Last year, that being 2011 and now it's 2012,  I came across a lovely blog entitled Love Life and Pictures authored by the lovely Olivia.  Every Friday Olivia's blog was dedicated to the 5 senses of Taste, Hear, See, Smell, and Feel.  I totally connected with those posts....maybe it was her images, they are all so soft and lovely, maybe it was her descriptive words, but something drew me to follow her "Five Senses Friday" editions.  And, because I was so drawn to this concept  I have decided to begin my own Five Senses Friday.  I did inform Olivia that I would give her full credit for the inspiration.  Beginning today, Friday, January 6, 2012 the first Friday of the year here is my first Five Senses Friday.

Feeling a little sad that the holidays are over for another year.  The excitement of decorating the house in reds & greens in some rooms and golds in others, the enchantment of Christmas lights all over neighborhoods wherever you drive, the gatherings of friends and families, the food (too much sometimes), the joy of gift-giving, hearing from friends far away through Christmas cards, and remembering above all else the "reason for the season"...all this is now over for another year.   This year I added dried hydrangeas to the Christmas tree... the image below is what is left after taking them off the tree.

Tasting.....tasting the last of the Christmas candy.  Probably a good thing.  I think I ate so much chocolate this year that my chin started breaking out with little "pimples".  I kept wondering why at my age would I have teenage skin, albeit the wrinkles, and then it dawned on me....the immense amounts of chocolates I have consumed during the holidays.  Oh so very delicious.

Hearing.....Met with some of my girlfriends today for breakfast and a movie.  We had not seen each other in quite a while so there was lots of conversation to catch up on....two of us had weddings, one moved, so major events that had not been discussed in heavy-duty detail were in order. We met at 9:15 and the movie began at 11:45 AM, a good 2+ hours of hearing all the news.

Seeing the movie War Horse.  Oh what an enjoyable movie, 2 thumbs up from each of us.  It was a little weepy at times, but a heart warming story of a horse named Joey and Joey's lasting effect he has on everyone he meets.  If you enjoy animal stories then you will LOVE this.  Gorgeous scenes of the English & French Countrysides.  That Stephen Speilburg always knows how to tell a beautiful story through the eyes of the movie lens.

And finally Smelling.....re-heating the Chicken Tortilla Soup I made a couple of days ago.  It was good then, and even better now that the flavors have had a chance to blend.  Sometimes there are certain things that are just better the 2nd time around, soup is definitely one of those 2nd time arounders.

I have enjoyed this first of my Five Senses Friday, it does make you stop and realize that 5, merely 5 senses can give you such pleasure.  Think of all that you see or hear or feel in a 24 hour time period, write it down, it's moments that may never come again.

"We turn not older with years, but newer every day."  ~  Emily Dickinson

Until next time......

  1. I love the idea of photos linked to the five senses.

I've had more than enough candy lately myself, you're not the only one. And that movie, oh my, does that look good. I was thinking that it would be something that would bring on the tears though. Hope you have a good weekend :)

  3. Just saw "War Horse" tonight. Loved the move, can't IMAGINE how they stage the Broadway show. Loved the scene where the American and the German raised white flags to help out Joey. Steven Spielberg outdid himself.

  4. I also went to War Horse and Loved it!

Horses are my favorite animal, right behind the dog!! but the way we give human characteristics animals is just how I think. Of course they understand our words and love.

The last scene with the boy coming home on his horse reminded me of Gone with the Wind. I loved the colors!

    Hugs! GF
