Beyond Layers - "Awaken" To A New Beginning

Began a new class last week with Kim Klassen, entitled "Beyond Layers", a 52 week class that will inspire us to find our joys, creativity and uncover our own layers.  The first week our assignment was to write our own story....decided against that, too long.  The second week we were encouraged to write a 6 word description of ourselves.  Almost too short...but I am giving this a try.....

"Learned to accept, open for beginnings"

Kim also gave us a new texture layer to play with and encouraged us that "less" can be more.  In other words, use layers with a light touch instead of heavily texturing.  Since her journey with textures and I might add she is definitely "The Texture Queen", she has lightened up her touch to add more subtlety to her work.  So this week it is lightness and less with her new texture layer entitled "Awaken".   Each one of the images below has the texture Awaken applied.  I did each one about the same way.  Lightened each image in PSE, cropped most of them, used my "favorite new effect, Velvet Truffle, then added 2 layers of Awaken.  First layer at soft light, 2nd layer at linear burn but only at about 20-30% (remember "lite" touch).

  5. These are all so beautiful. It's amazing how textures can enhance a photo even when it is so subtle.

  6. I'm taking that class, too! The minimalist approach is definitely a challenge for me, white space is not my forte.

  8. You've TOTALLY gotten me booked on "Velvet Truffle"! And isn't this class fun? I really like this 6-word challenge. I can see doing it occassionally throughout the year...I mean...SOOOOO many words to choose from :). I really like that first photo. It seems so whispery light. Beautiful.
