I heard a sound last night that I haven't heard in a long, long time. The sound of thunder and rain. Oh Lord did I love that sound, eventho Toby was on top of me all night long. As much as I like the sound, he is totally opposite, do they have teeny tiny earplugs for dogs?? The plants and flowers all had happy smiles on their faces this morning, the trees still want more, but are glad they got a taste of moisture.
Yesterday, as I went to Leows and Home Depot still buying stuff for the bathrooms, I had, just had to pick up some colorful flowers to add a splash of color back into the garden. This heat has pretty much wiped out all the flowering plants, their leaves are crisp and the flowers are a dried-up brown color. Not exactly awe inspiring. And because it is late in the season, most are on sale right now if you can find some that are not hanging on for dear life due to neglect. But low and behold Leows had some grand multi-colored zinnias and periwinkles that both love the heat and sun. Hopefully they will add just the right punch that the garden needs right now.

Thinking about this one for my postcard for Kat's Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap....these have to be mailed pretty darn quick so I have to make a decision fast. I ordered blank postcards from www.The2Buds.com. They have a sticky back so you just peel off and add your own image. On the other side they have the regular postcard image address, stamp and place to write a note. I ordered 50 thinking I could put them to use for myself.
Or I may choose the one with the pony in the field of flowers, or the farm scene, or the hydrangeas in the ball jar...see that's the trouble, it's hard to choose.
Over at Kim's Beyond Layers this week it is fence week...she also gave us a sweet texture to use for today's link-up....I am likin' this one. Using this also for my Flickr group "Prompt Addicts" for Quote Week...2 birds, one stone.
A little more rain fell on my parade today...after painting my bathroom cabinet two coats of primer and then 3 coats of black paint, my people, you know my people, came back today to finish up.....he was afraid it had not dried long enough and was leery to install the sink base, faucets, and lighting fixture for fear of messing up the paint job. (and it was a fine paint job, I will have to say) Damn, and I thought today would be the day it would be DONE....but we will continue to muddle on and they will be back on Saturday to FINISH!! If you want to slowly lose your mind, not sleep, make umteenth trips to Home Depot do not, I repeat DO NOT decide to re-do 3 bathrooms at the same time.
Eventho I didn't get my sink in today, I did get the paper lantern hung that I bought over a year ago for the screen porch....it is so colorful...I love it.
Gotta go, have to return some cabinet hardware and buy more. See what I mean....never-ending.

Until next time.....
I forgot how lovely zinnias are. And I want a paper lantern for my porch!!
ReplyDeleteThis hot weather is just what summer's colorful flowers need!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteI love your colorful style. Thinking of remodeling makes me feel nauseous.
ReplyDeleteI love getting the clearance flowers at Lowes!! I wish I could get zinnias to grow...they just won't. Perhaps I will give it another try next year...but boy do I love those periwinkles!! Beautiful photographs and I really like the postcard idea.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I like that colorful paper lantern!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good writer, I just soak up your tenacity and humor! As an added bonus, your photography is eye candy! I can't wait to see before and after shots of your bathrooms!
ReplyDeleteYou sound busier than a toothless man in a corn-cob eating contest! I didn't realize you were redoing THREE bathrooms. That IS a lot of work. You must have a ton of energy. Just the thought wipes me out. On the flowers, I purchased 3 hanging baskets of lantana 2 weeks ago and they're all dried up--how? It rained every dang day! You've got lots of pretty postcard pics to choose from. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGlad your part of the world got some moisture, my little Sasha is the same way about thunder and rain and wind well almost anything will set her off in a shake. I feel so sorry for her, I have tried pills, Benadryl to no avail. She is up and down on the bed, has even gone into my closet and shut the door. All of your images are so you colorful, and happy.
ReplyDeleteinteresting angle and treatment of your wonderful photos...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful textureing, just love them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blog. I'm just north of Milwaukee. Maybe we can meet some day. I picked up a couple nice hints from this post. Thank you so much. Hug your husband for us all. My heart goes out to you. I lost my dad to a rare dementia several years ago when he was only 65...and it is a scary thought...the whole 50% hereditary thingy. It's blogs like yours that brings peace and happiness.
ReplyDeleteNice texturing on the photos. Very pretty. So many pretty photos to choose for the post cards.
ReplyDeleteWonderful images...I love the fence shot.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I just read the first sentence of Gail's comment and I'm dying...how funny. Anyway, you do sound super busy! When you're done, could you come over and work on my bathroom? I painted it and then thought, "Gee, this is ugly." So I went and got new paint for a redo...not looking forward to that!
ReplyDeleteI love your postcard and your fence photo too. Hope you have a good weekend :)
Your photo art is beautiful and any one of these would make a beautiful postcard.
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful photos my friend. I just love your fence shot.. Hope you have a happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Beautiful! I love the crackled effect.
ReplyDeleteLove those flowers Deanna. Any of those will be perfect for the post card swap. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that you've had a little rain. Your Zinna shots are lovely. I really like the one with the crackle like texture.
ReplyDeleteAlso thought your fence shot of the barbed wire was very interesting and that lantern, oh my how pretty is that!
You know I heard about some sort of a dog vest the other day that is suppose to easy anxiety in dogs who hate thunder. Try googling it.
Happy for you that you got some rain finally. We are still looking at 100s for the coming week and no rain in sight.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful new flowers and I love that lantern!
Thank you for sharing at Rural Thursdays this week, Deanna. xo
