I just finished reading a wonderful book entitled "The Language of Flowers" by Vanessa Diffenbaugh and along with enjoying the book, I learned that flowers do have a definite language, each meaning something different.
For instance....did you know that pansies mean "think of me".
Or that sunflowers mean "false riches" Personally I think sunflowers equal happiness, but I didn't write the dictionary.
Geraniums mean "true friendship"
Dahlias are "dignity"
And finally the zinnia, "I mourn your absence"
So the next time you give flowers to a friend, a relative, or a lover you might just want to check the "true meaning" of that flower before presenting.

Until next time...

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congrats on the co-host gig! How exciting!!! I was just over at Nancy's congratulating you there. You're right, she does make you feel like you are having a cup of coffee or tea with her on the front porch.
ReplyDeleteZinnias are one of my favorite garden flowers, but I had no idea that's what they meant. Who's in charge of this flower dictionary anyway? LOL Your images are gorgeous and edited so nicely with your special flair. Beautiful post.
Lovely flowers, Deanna! Congrats on co-hosting Your Sunday Best!
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers, meanings and beautiful photos...it's fun to have thoughts associated with flowers. Although I think we make our own as well. I love lilacs and they symbolize hope for me because they bloom in the spring, releasing their fragrance and bringing refreshing from the past winter. Thanks for posting, Nancy (I'm a new follower as well...)
