Pretty Things

I admit I am a sucker for pretty things, that's why my house is now full of "things" that someday I am going to have to start parting with.  I tried to sell a few in a garage sale last year, but it seems that many are trying to not add more "things" to their already stuffed households.  And I have donated some to Goodwill and other charities that call me on a regular basis for a donation, but I confess, I am just not ready to part with some of my pretty things.  I think I am going to blame my many collections on "we haven't moved in over 30 years".  That is as good as I can come up with....but I know it's true,  the more you move, the less stuff you collect.  There is no way I am going to blame myself, isn't that what we do now-days, blame your failings on something or someone else?  It couldn't possibly be that whenever we traveled I brought home "things" or when I went shopping I brought home more "things".  And also the fact that I NEVER followed the age-old rule, "when you bring something new into your home, you get rid of something old."  HA, you would know I didn't follow that rule just by opening the coat closet.  Stuffed, Jammed, Overflowing - get the picture?  Anyway, here are just a few of the pretty things I can't part with, not yet anyway......

Resisting pretty things to hang from knobs?, sorry, can't help it.

And sweet tea cups with more pretties inside the rim....no way!!

Lovely lamp with pretty roses on the base, again, Goodwill is not getting this!!

And another pretty hanging from another knob.  Well, I have all these knobs in the dining room that feel naked without something dressing them up....don't you agree??

And I can't seem to live without pretty floral arrangements....

And this precious porcelain statue of Mary.  My husband's aunt gave this to us shortly after we got married.  It sits atop the bookshelf and is a sweet reminder of Aunt Clara.  This is one pretty thing I will never part with.

I have many pretty things throughout our home, but these did not come all at once....we have been married for 47 years so these pretty things have been gathered and added over all these years.   I know that someday I need to part with some of them, but not right now.  I have a daughter and 2 granddaughters that I hope will someday enjoy picking and choosing their favorites.

Until next time.......

  1. Oh, Deanna... I could have written that post today! In fact, I just posted on my blog how I'm going to be purging and organizing the next week. It will be easier to do the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom. But, my back room is where I have all the pretty things I've collected and I just don't know what to do! I've stopped myself from going to flea markets that last many months because I just don't have any more room. I love having my pretty things out and looking at them too. Wish me luck!

  4. I don't blame you for not being able to part with these Deanna. Some things are just meant to be held close, until it is time to give them to someone special.
