Ramblings

Friday night was my favorite night of the week when I was a kid.  Two days without school, spend the night with your best friend, go to the Saturday movies, and maybe, just maybe a date on Saturday night.  Friday night was also my fav night of the week when I worked.  Again two days without work, spend the night with my best friend who also happened to be my husband, sometimes went to the Saturday movies and always had a date on Saturday night.  Now with no school, no job and alone, Friday nights are about like any other night of the week except for what's on TV.  This doesn't make me sad, just makes me stop and realize how things change as your life changes.  I don't want to go back to school, except for fun things like photography and I certainly do not want to go back to work.  I have never lived alone.  I went from high school to college and straight to marriage. So now that I am alone for the first time in my life I am learning to adjust.  And to be honest to be able to eat when I want, go to bed when I want, come and go without worrying about being home at a certain time is not all bad.  If I had the choice, I would certainly want my husband to be with me, living the life we thought we would when we both retired, but because that did not happen I am now adjusting to a new way of life, living alone and it's OK.

Today, after running some errands, I decided to drive to the Arboretum and check out the colors.  Last Tuesday night I went to bed, the next morning the trees had changed to their brilliant Fall colors. Maybe it was not quite that quick but it honestly seemed like it was over-night.  The calendar has not flipped over to October yet leaves are already dropping.

Look at those leaves and berries.....sigh!!

Love the petals in these flowers.....

Lovely mums.....

And again, red berries.  I am in heaven.

I hope your Fridays are filled with great memories and everything that makes you happy!!

Until next time......

  1. I love the second shot. Not sure if it is because of the texture or the gorgeous shape and color of the flowers.

I now how you feel. After my divorce, I was alone for a good four years before I found this wonderful man that I am now married to. I totally enjoy that freedom of being able to do things in my own time.

  3. I, too, love Friday nights. The kids come home from school and there are no lessons, Judo, baseball, Cub Scouts, homework, etc. We are Free!

How wonderful that you have the Arboretum so close by. I would love that! We used to live near Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Norfolk, VA and I was a frequent visitor. Gorgeous color in these photos.

Did you send us all of this rain? ;) It's going to be a rainy one here and I was going to do a Scott Kelby photowalk. Hopefully it will hold off. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Love your gorgeous, colourful photos - that first on is spectacular!

I certainly agree that the leaves seemed to turn over night - now, too fast for me they will be falling and we'll be left with bare branches. But, there is a beauty in those bare branches too . . .

  5. That must be a big change to be alone, especially since you weren't really expecting life to go that way. Your photos from the arboretum look beautiful, Deanna. I love the pink flowers. Hope you have a nice weekend :)

I always go back to God does not give us more than we can handle.. And it sounds like you are handling it well.. That sure is how life goes isn't it.. And We could be miserable if we don't roll with the punches.. So glad to hear you have such a great outlook on life even though its not what you planned..

  7. Friday night when I was little meant: Brady Bunch, Here Come the Brides and Love American Style :). Yes, I'm dating myself here. Deanna, I don't think I know ANYONE who takes as lovely photos of botanicals as you do. The red berries made me sigh.
